  5. #4: I was a member of RoC for a very long time. 85% of the time that the PC Valena was on sim she was in her personal room or AFK in the Tower of the Hand when she was Hand ICly. The other 14% of the time she was around for court or RP in personal spaces with her PC family. 1% of the time she was at court. As an important character holding the position of Hand of the King, the availability she was available for play was immensely difficult. Letters that were sent to her or her steward (when/if she had one) were almost never responded to. As mother of the King, it was the same. A pivotal character for the sim that was hardly ever available. It’s not obsession, it’s PC’s being favored and that being pointed out.

    #21: 1) Plumpy openly admitted several times to being a Pick Me girl. Why is this an issue? I RP’d with her several times as Linore. 2) Several people went through the RP to get a dragon, someone them flat out denied by the Admin team despite all of the RP that was done for it. Begging for one does not get you one, unless you’re Nysah I guess? 3) Draconic measures? How often was she actually off the sim when not logged in though? Do you have any idea how often she DEFENDED the Admin team? 4) To be fair, who doesn’t talk shit on VS? 5) ??? 6) Profit? She has money? Damn. I want money, too.

    #30: What does it matter where this player is staff? He aided staff often for combat things at RoC, who cares? Also, the request to ban a player for ignoring RP, excessive metagaming and godmodding, with proof given? He cannot ban a player, Admin’s can. But when you are bringing forth proof that player is going against sim rules for RP, and yet that player is friends with the Admin’s? Of course it’ll be seen as whining. However, reading through the logs, sure there were complaints and ‘moaning’. Most of that was against the Admin’s that are notorious for playing favorites.

  38. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve popped onto VS, but I thought I’d add my perspective on the RoC stuff, since I don’t think I fall into any particular category of apologist or serial troublemaker.

    I recently went on vacation irl and informed the admin team of RoC of an extended absence that would put my return to RoC at the “end of March”, asking them kindly to not boot or replace me, since I fully intended to continue the role of Aelinor Tyrell. I’m not new to roleplay, but ASOIAF is a new community I just popped into, without any previous affiliations to the player base. Only a keen interest in trying something new with skilled writers.

    I thought I had been gaining some traction in the community, working with different PCs and story arcs, just in general having fun on a pretty regular basis. So imagine my surprise when after communicating this leave of absence, shit hit the fan for the Reach casting and tree building. Three days before I would even be heading home from vacation I get a message from Syme, requesting that I review the tree and some pretty major changes. He wanted to implement them right away and needed feedback from me within a day.

    Ultimately, what I saw had me throw in the towel. The most interesting part of the Reach dynamic, in my opinion, was the tension between the progeny of Galhad’s two marriages. Having two children, Galhad’s only son and heir (plus Aelinor), put pressure between the houses of the Reach and familial tension that I enjoyed. Yet what I was shown, was a watering down of the impact of the children with Jaehaera: six siblings had been added, with Leyton the youngest of three sons. So much would’ve had to be retconned to make sense of this tree. All the while, I was trying to imagine how Aelinor gleaned any story-worthy significance, without a dragon, or a claim to succession, which had been discussed before Vagrant’s casting as Galhad.

    I felt I had fought very hard to build a story for Aelinor, only to be knocked into a pit of irrelevance in one fell swoop. I explained my concerns and was told I could be the eldest daughter if that would help anything. Those of us who know Westerosi succession, knows how little difference that would’ve made.

    In the end, I just walked away. I’m not a status seeker. I don’t dodge consequences and if I am passionate about a roleplay, I am present and available to the community. A lot. Somehow in all of it, I was disregarded as unimportant and my character and family were completely upended. The story got away from me. All I wanted was a good story, but all inspiration was stripped away, and I decided it wasn’t worth it.

    It’s really a shame, I did like the community, the build, and I felt supported all the way up until mid-March. Then this happened and I don’t even want to play in any community anymore. I am so tired of the narcissism and self-importance. Working so hard to belong and contribute to something, and simply not being enough in the end.

    At the very least, I can focus on a novel now. This roleplay schtick, has taken up too much of my time, my money, and my focus. At least it didn’t strip my heart clean.

    I wish you all the best in your endeavors on Second Life, I truly do. Don’t let this drama eat you up. There’s a lot more in life, that deserves your attention and care. This shit ain’t it. Peace.

    • I resonated with your story I really didā€¦ Then I reread it. A admin asked for your feedback and that led to making you feel not enough and ultimately the loss of inspiration?

      • The fact that I communicated my leave and was told to review/accept very drastic changes to my story while on said leave, was a bit discombobulating. It is already difficult to get bearings on where the RP is at after being gone for three weeks. The changes however would require me not only to catch up but to do a complete overhaul to an established story.

        I really donā€™t understand why such changes were applied in direct correlation to an active playerā€™s story. Any seasoned roleplayer knows how frowned upon retconning is. Yes there were changes to casting going on in the region but failing to take into consideration the story lines of consistent, loyal players to a point for these changes is probably not the path towards player retention here.

        Though the more I learn about GoT RPā€™s history in SL, the more I question if player retention is even of interest to the various owners. It seems counterintuitive but the internet is full of odd people isnā€™t it?

    • This is a very measured comment and a reasonable gripe. The truth is that in this genre as time goes on and rp progresses, people drop off or leave or ragequit, which then requires adjustments for houses to still be playable. These adjustments can sometimes go wrong despite good intentions and the same problems will crop up in CoB as times goes on. Let’s just be real about this and go back to rping and not vomiting our drama all over VS.

      • Yes, that’s going to happen. The problem is that there is so little imagination as to really let things shake up. RoC was supposed in the future; there was no reason why all of the great houses save one (Greyjoy) could have or should have remained in existence after the Great War. Especially House Targaryen, of which there were far too many characters. I’ll give them credit for trying to add some new dimensions, like the Eastern houses Aethys, etc. But if it’s too far of a stretch to depose a house and/or let it die out, then maybe it’s more of an indictment of the player base. You can’t complain about people not playing to take power when you keep adding siblings precisely so that they can’t.

      • I don’t agree. First, I don’t understand why you think there is no reason for all the great houses to stay in power in their regions after the Great War. In ASOIAF canon they survived huge conflicts like Dance of Dragons, Blackfyre Rebellion, etc. RoC explains how they survived in its lore and I think got this mostly right, even had a whole new location and event to deal with the succession crisis in the Riverlands which resulted in the Riverrun House Tully mostly dying out. So it’s not fair to say that they don’t let houses die out/be deposed, and anyway I don’t understand how that would be an indictment on the player base.

        Second, in previous sims it was so repetitive when every sim ended up with someone trying to kill all the Targaryens and some great house taking power just to basically replay Robert’s Rebellion. It’s pretty refreshing that this isn’t the direction that RoC went in and the lore also explains how House Targaryen rebuilt itself. You have to admit that at least it does it better than the show šŸ˜‰

        Third, deposing houses and letting them die out is just one way of taking power and even in ASOIAF this is very rare and doesn’t happen often. There just aren’t that many houses that “die out” and most of the existing ones have actually existed for hundreds of years before even Aegon’s Conquest. For me the fun in grabbing power in GOT RP is in court politics etc rather than just nerfing other houses or characters just so you can take their spot.

        Saying things like “bye RoC” and all this drama is really childish anyway, and sure it’s down now but it doesn’t deserve all the flack and bullying it’s getting on here. I personally hope it picks itself back up so we can finally have a GOT sim with continuity rather than make characters just to lose them because sims keep opening up and closing.

      • I’ll never understand how anyone considers it “continuity” when characters are getting retconned left and right. I’d rather just do a clean restart at that point.

      • If players can’t handle a story that takes a severe turn away from the power structures we know, then it reflects poorly on the base. The fact that we have a shit ton of Targaryens, most of whom don’t really interact with anyone other than their close buddies on the sim, just to have white haired Valyrians in power is not an imaginative use of those characters and is just Robert’s Rebellion waiting to happen again. It’s like being in The Force Awakens: similar power dynamics as the original series and taking no real chances. There isn’t anything really refreshing about it at all, but when you want to play, you take what you can get. Same thing with Crown of Blood and its crazy lore.

        Most of Riverrun’s Tully here isn’t dead, just deposed and/or departed. But now they’ve been written out of the story in a way that leaves the lore as a massive block of swiss cheese. That’s just poor story management. There are better ways to handle it.

        The characters leaving/dying isn’t the same thing as nerfing like they did to House Tyrell in December. Let the tensions play out among the banners if they all die out. The focus shouldn’t necessarily be on all the great houses anyway.

    • All her time is now taken up on other platforms like Roblox & Sims 4. She just has her team throw something out every blue moon so she can try and stay relevant and say she still cares about SL. I mean SL is what made her what she is today.

      • The ideas are hers; she just pays to have the work done. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as she’s paying what she agrees to pay. It’s nothing like stealing and they are still original, proprietary meshes. A lot people who do their own meshing wish they could make enough to afford to do the same, but ultimately it’s just a matter of personal choice whether you want to spend your time or your money on it.

Renegade had to include those logs in his profile as a means to defend himself from the harassment and abuse that he was still getting from someone on the RoC admin team. Simply because he played it differently (i.e. didn’t ICLY play by their rules and their story). But here’s the thing that the staff team doesn’t get (oh yes, and you too Jaehaerys): roleplay should always expect to have a variety of different outcomes and not just something that is so very one-way street. By that, I mean that players will not always go by the way you want them to. The staffs on the RoC sim needs to be open minded to other stories in their player base (and a lot of them had really good ones, but were delayed for a month or ignored) that doesn’t only focus on the Targaryen family. RoC team, please do some self-reflection and reevaluate. This is precisely the main reason why a lot of people left your sim.

    When you harbor a player (I’m not even going to hide this: Aegon) who not only play an excessive and stereotypical “Targaryen in madness” that offered nothing but berates people’s characters for no reason, AND is on the admin team as Ser Pounce? There is a problem. You all know that he abuses his admin position to manipulate his own stories (and the Targaryens too) so he would be “untouchable.” Same goes for Lee, who went against his own sim rules (i.e. about players abandoning a role cannot reroll into a Great House role) only for him to do exactly that; abandoning his Grafton character and rerolling into a Martell. So what’s going on here?

    Let’s not forget about how Aegon is now requiring people to be on the sim more otherwise he would throw their characters away. But you have people like Gwynne, who by the way, got her PC back but haven’t been actively roleplaying either. Tell me, what does she and Areni even do on the story team? As far as I know, tea parlor rumors haven’t even been out for about three weeks now. RL is keeping her away from SL? That’s fine. And yet, here you all are still demanding people to be on your sim.

    I think it’s clear now that you all are so selfishly tunnel-vision on “your story” that you don’t absolutely care about your players. Have you at all checked in with your players? Oh wait, no. Because we haven’t heard any communication from the staff team even when they’re undergoing through these “sim changes”, deleting players off the website without communication, their characters, their IC babies, etc.

    Practice what you preach, RoC staff team. All of you need some real hard reevaluation if you truly wish to revive your players. Cease the favoritism, pay attention to your players’ personal plots and stories, make notes of what stories they are requesting through their SRs and find a way to merge the stories together with other people’s stories. And maybe, just maybe? You won’t have to lose more players that way.

        By problematic there was one abandonment as well as one ..honestly I don’t even know.

        Intent may have been pure but it led to the optics about both special rules for admin as well as directing the plot.

      • Two abandonments of the same character. Other inquiries before they decided to reopen the role (which they decided to do based, supposedly, “because the King didn’t know the character was gone”) were met with, “We’re not recasting the role a third time.”

        Unlike what others claimed on a previous week, it especially looks bad given that player-led plot was delayed, delayed, delayed till Lee rolled in as Elyas and it was subsequently ignored.

        And then those players left RoC. Not because of another player’s ban, but because again, the admins decided that their RP didn’t matter.

        They and their shills can say, “Oh that’s not what happened” but it is literally want happened. The players literally gave up trying to RP there because it was no longer fun, because their efforts were ignored in favor of an admin.

        The optics are bad because the situation is bad and is another example of RoC admins directing the story to their own ends.

      • So, from what I know about “Renegade.Cloud” Is that he is a more ‘to the point’ kind of role-player. That he catches shit when things are changed. For example: The buffs that dragons give to PC’s is a little overwhelming. As Henry, he learned quickly that the entire Admin team was AGAINST anyone in his family/Riverlands obtaining a dragon, even though they had story to allow that. This allowed the Admins, specifically Rhaenor’s player and Aegon’s player, to control RP. Especially when other regions with ‘dragon blooded’ individuals were able to obtain a dragon.

        When it was known that Admins played favorites, gate kept story arcs, and changed lore to fit their needs despite other players already having played into existing lore, and let us not forget randomly killed people in houses that either retired, had to leave because of RL reasons, etc., that seriously disrupted the PC’s livelihoods still in play. Phew, that was a run-on sentence! Anyhow, when it was known that Admin’s are using their power to support the people that wiggled their way into their ‘friend’ group, it was called out to them. I myself bore witness to people being called out, then the stories slowly taking a turn against those that called out the Admin’s.

        What happened here is what happens in many places, even places of work in the real world. We all have to remember that being an Admin/Moderator/StoryTeam is a VOLUNTEER gig. And yes, we all make mistakes. But what should have happened, in my opinion, is that when something happened to show favoritism, regardless to who it was, and it was called out, then a ‘ticket’ should be opened, as they are wont to do in Discord now, and someone takes the role of Arbiter that has little to do with that issue, and cases are made. The Admin makes their case, the complainant makes their case. The Arbiter makes their suggestion as to how to fix things. Then it’s fixed.

        Volunteers that write story, pay for sims, run story, push story, approve applications, help with combat, etc., get a LOT of the load, are put under heavy stress with constant complaints and issues. But often they do not take the time to just play. At the same time, players OFTEN catch things that Admins miss. Then it all gets blown up.

        This is what I think happened with RoC: Players noticed the favoritism and changes and called out the Admins, perhaps not in the best way or were ignored often enough to get harsher about it, and the Admins, who are already being bombarded for everything, lashed out. Then the battle started. In my experience, when you have people in your player base that have a ton of experience in certain things, use that experience. Don’t negate it.

        TLDR:
        Admin’s have friends and most of the time those friends get better treatment. Admin’s are also human and make mistakes. Players catch those mistakes and often lash out. Admin’s get defensive and go on the offense. Future sims perhaps should take to the idea that having an outside third party to help with issues like this could be useful. Someone that might not play on the sim, or at least has no direct relation to the conflict. Make that person the Arbiter. Arbiter’s CAN be players, they do not have to be on the leading team. Arbiter’s listens to the issues, then make a SUGGESTION, not a ruling. Also, Admin’s, don’t get upset when a player checks you. You’re human and can make mistakes. Players, don’t immediately get pissy when shit doesn’t go in your favor.

        Also, most of these sims use dice. Use them for more than combat. Use them for persuasion, deception, investigation, etc. They have dice HUDs made. Use them.

Little did I know, it did not get better and I lost proof. Including backup from other people from the community. Your best bet now is asking those who remember the events and even then, most people will not say about it to let bygone be bygone. And the names she listed were from 2 years ago when I had someone create fake accounts to pretend to be me – all this was taken care of and all parties have moved on. Rosebud/Chronic wasn’t part of this but for some reason she has inserted herself in that drama and tries to keep it going.     • I’m a designer at this event since January, and they do support small brands. they’re probably upset that they didn’t get an acceptance letter. this event is always full. it’s not the owner’s fault.
