  6. Why do these “family sims” always end up being such hotbeds of drama? The fuck are people doing there that they get so worked up? I’ve lived on multiple residential, family-type sims with RP police/fire departments and have never seen anything like the shit that gets thrown around here about Cedar Creek or Fox Hollow or whatever.

    • Do they though? This is virtual secrets and accusations of things that should be taken with a big grain of salt. I wouldn’t take anything written here seriously, no accusation, no so-called drama. Not just with CC and FH but in general, Almost everything written here is just gossip, people getting payback for whatever reason

  13. 13) I agree, but people have turned SL way too brain dead into just a glorified sex simulator with no real fun or reason that isn’t pandering to something sexual.

    One thing I want LL to do is to stop artificial gate-keeping sims. One of the major things that would bring new people in is lowering the prices of Sims and the likes, or offer better services for it.

    Right now as it is, we have land monopolies that outcompete any attempt at getting cheap GF sims, not to mention the ridiculous cost to just have a sim itself. Having a sim is an incredibly vital lifeline for many people to build out worlds, make content, create spaces.

    I really hope at some point, they’d start opening up sims being able to be hosted 3rd party, I’ve seen it where you can get bigger sims for just under 50$ a month instead of the outrageous 300$.

    It depends on the weekend sale in which you participate since I can mention about 10 “weekend sale events” that are used for absolutely nothing but to get money from designers who try to make a living. The big weekend sales only accept people who are from the closest circle. Not to mention that in the “Happy Weekend” 80% of the participants are Brazilian, just like its owner… any chance? I really doubt it.

    Freya/Isis/Venus have been out for a pretty long time, so I am not really surprised about them releasing a new line. Their current bodies are pretty outdated and they hardly have any clothing support anymore. Would have been nice if there was a new men’s body, though. They could use more options.

    • There is no legitimate reason for no-mod products to exist. If you bought it, you should be allowed to re-size it, re-texture it, or tinker with it however you see fit. A lot of people here complain about slight variations of the same item clogging up the marketplace. Well, they only get away with that because too many people have zero self-respect and see no problem with buying “fat packs” for different coloured variations of the same no-mod item. In an ideal world, you would only need to buy one item, and you would be free to recolour it as needed. Of course, it is more profitable to take advantage of the less sentient among Second Lifes user base by selling them the same product multiple times.

      • Nobody is flat tinting and expecting it to look as good as a texture in 2022. Or, at least, I hope not.

      • There are a lot of reasons why creators choose to set their content no modify, and no they do not have to give anyone an explanation about it. You have no right to claim any kind of permissions on someone else’s work when you did not pay for the full cost and time that took that piece to be created.
        If you do not want to buy stuff you can’t modify you have 3 choices. You only buy from those that sell modify content (limits your choice), you can do your own stuff (consumes time and money) or you can order custom content (most expensive) but at least you can decide its privileges.  😉 

      • The point is that making an item no mod does literally nothing, and let me be very clear NOTHING, to protect them from having their items stolen. The viewers that steal content are completely unaffected by permissions settings. It’s something ignorant creators do because they think it does protect them from thieves, and greedy creators do to keep people from modding for things like tinting, so they can sell more recolors. There are no other “reasons”, and both of those are shit. I challenge you to offer even one other. Adrint is correct.

      • Wouldn’t they be losing money if everyone could tint what they make? I usually buy more than 1 color if not the fatpack, buying white would do the trick then. In that case i doubt anyone would be able to buy a piece of clothing for only 250 or 300L otherwise that would take ages or never pay out the work they have put into it. Would be a kinda like white is the new fatpack. That is good enough reason to keep their creations no modify.

      • The other reason is that they’d constantly have to provide support for users who aren’t savvy enough to retexture/mod the items. Those of us who get on forums and blogs are a small percentage of the actual user base. Most people just kind of want things to work.

      • A simple blurb in their profile stating “You break it, that’s your problem; make copies or get a redelivery” resolves that issue. For good measure, add it to an info notecard in the box as well- creator ass covered.

      • You are clearly not familiar with customer service, otherwise you would know that nothing you can possibly write in your profile will ever stop customers from contacting you with questions you may have answered in your store FAQ or profile. And if you want to keep your customers happy, yes because having a good customer service is a big part of a successful business, you will answer 1 by 1 every time they have an issue.

      • No. White would not make a fatpack because tinting white items doesn’t change the color the way changing to a different colored texture does. It applies a blanket tint to everything on the face, including shadows/highlights/details like seams, and looks like shit. A gentle nudge in a darker direction is the only thing tinting can be used for without being ugly and obvious. If cheap ass people want to look like crap by trying to use tint on white items, so what? Those people weren’t going to buy fatpacks anyway. All you’re doing is restating what I said about greedy creators anyway, just from an asslicker’s perspective.

      • I know that very well but there are a lot of SL users with crappy graphics, would they can tell the difference, or even bother? Either way anything that would possibly make a business to lose money is a no go, no matter if is SL or RL. You might enjoy what you do for a living, but you will always work for the money, after all, you have bills to pay too like everyone else. So yes there are a lot of reasons why creators keep their work no modify, and no they do not have to explain why. But if you tell me they should have a recolor HUD like some hairs have i would say yes, that would probably solve the issue, you would be able to sort out the color scale by using the hud and like that the item would not have to be modify.

    • I am of the opinion that there is no legitimate reason for no-mod products to exist. When I purchase a product, I should be entitled to re-size it, re-texture it, edit the scripts inside of it, or otherwise fiddle with it however I see fit, regardless of what it is. Many users often complain about the marketplace being clogged with multiple listings of what are essentially the same items with only slight variations, and it is of course no-mod that makes this blatantly greedy tactic possible. Such creators only get away with it because far too many people seem to lack any semblance of self-respect and will happily shell out hundreds if not thousands of Linden Dollars to buy the same product multiple times, just to change the colour. It is as ridiculous as it is sad.

      • I was with you until you went after people’s scripts. Those are expensive to have made, and a lot of work to create- and being able to mod them means you can steal them and use them in other items with simple copy and paste. This isn’t true for just leaving a mesh or layer mod- it’s still an entirely other (TOS breaking and sometimes illegal) process to steal those. If you want full perm access to someone else’s scripts, you better be willing to pay an amount that reflects that- a lot more than most people charge currently.

  39. Weekend sales, especially the smaller ones are a godsend for smaller, newer stores who can’t dream of participating in big, elite events and sales like FLF, Saturday Sale, etc.

    Literally nobody is forced to participate, shop or support the gazillion weekend sales if you don’t want to. Live and let live.

      I wouldn’t say Elite but bigger sale events also get new designers and smaller business in, but just like every other successful business, we have to consider the quality, the crowd and also their effort to make their business grow. A 2 years old store that has the same number of followers as a store that just opened doors shows lack of effort/dedication to their business or simply lack of room in the market for the kind of products they sell. Those are all factors we look into it before we consider adding another store to the sale. HW has introduced a lot of new stores into the market through our 3 years of existence and we will keep on doing it every time we think they have a real chance of succeeding. Please do not get me wrong i did like your comment i am just giving you a different prespective of how things work.

      • May 2021 and then rented a home right next to her the same week she fired her. Pure bullying. She claimed she fired her over an altercation with another teacher, Kamryn Lockwood, one of the teachers, and Lockwood told everyone that she begged Lucy not to fire her and to let it go.

        This isn’t the first time Lucy lied and fired someone. She banned voice at the school a year prior saying there were too many griefers, knowing that one of the favorite staff members, Razorclaw, has a medical condition where she couldn’t type. The woman had even started wearing a human avatar. In the end, it came out that Lucy just hated her for being part of the furry community and laughed about her having to quit. That decision also caused 5 other teachers to leave.

      The world’s population is divided in 3 classes
      The rich
      The middle class
      The poor

      When events such pandemics and wars occur the economy takes a hit called inflation. What generates that usually is a shortage of essential goods which as a consequence rises the price of those goods, if those goods are for example crude it will affect every economic sector.
       
      In a market perspective, who takes the biggest hit?
       
      The rich might complain here and there but they do not struggle from it.
      The poor are used to it, they take hits on daily basis, plus they already didn’t have the resources to shop.
      The middle class is the one that takes the bigger hit.

      Now lets talk about the middle class which is still a big part of the world’s population and its categories.
      To simplify lets say there are just 2 categories of the middle class, and lets call it high and low.
      The economy takes a hit the high tends to disappear they become low and the low becomes poor. This of course affects the market.

      Now the market.
      Humans are consumers by nature, people only stop buying when they do not have the resources to do it. The market has to adjust to the consumers and not the other way around. (with this i mean everything that is not an essential good)

      There has always been sales, then they invented the concept of outlets and low cost stores such as Walmart and Target, but they do need to exist to cover those that do not have the resources to buy from others. 

      Lets face it! If i can buy my clothes and accessories from Gucci i will definitely do it. I might buy from Walmart too but that does not stop me from buying my Gucci stuff (i am not a Gucci’s freak this is just an example).

      So many times i have bought a piece of clothing or an accessory in RL and next day they start a sale, does it suck? Well yes, but on the other hand if i haven’t done it i would probably do not buy it anyway. I don’t know if any of you can relate to this but i can’t buy shit on sales in RL, unless i shop online, i see piles of clothing everywhere and people fighting over a last piece and i want to run like hell, plus if i bought that piece of clothing it is because i had the money to spend which nowadays how things are going it’s a really big thing, it means i am not poor just yet.

      SL market is connected to RL market, so if things are going bad in RL of course they are bad in SL too, even tho in SL money can fall from trees lol it does not take you that far.

      Are events or sales breaking SL market? Of course not.
      The only negative effect that a sale event might have in SL market is that customers that were used to go to a store to buy a past release now are probably waiting that release to be on sale, but if they truly want it and have the resources they will buy it anyway, sale or no sale. Meaning the market is shifting because it has to shift to adjust to a new reality, and that is why there are so many sales at the moment.

      I couldn’t give a flying crap about how much stores or event owners are making. When i am shopping that is the least of my concerns lol and my guess is that i am not the only one.

      I am passionate about finances, so i am sorry if this is too boring for you!

I doubt the events listed in this post want to deal with that risk. I can hear some of them yowl now, “But we’re just a tiny store, Chanel shouldn’t mind if we copy their logo on our stuff! They make billions!”. Copyright infringement is copyright infringement, whether you make $2 or $2 million.

    Another question I have about these events that cater to that aesthetic: Is this the ONLY aesthetic people of color in SL want? It seems very limiting to have your aesthetic limited to what one could politely call “working girl chic” with nips and labia hanging out of virtually every piece of clothing sold. Much of it just seems to cater to negative stereotypes about people of color.

    In looking at most of the big events like Anthem and C88, I don’t see as much of the “bits hanging out” aesthetic. Sure, there’s plenty of squeezed thighs and bewbs (still waiting to see tourniquet testicles though), but for the most part the top events appear to just not want hooker chic in their events. If your store focuses on hooker chic, then focus on getting the events that do cater to your aesthetic up to the level of the big ones.

  57. #46/49/55: The sales have gotten out of control but let’s face it – we shoppers love them. But it is very frustrating when any of us buy something full price at the big event only to find it on sale 4-6 weeks later at the weekend event. There are certain stores where I have quit buying any of their new stuff at events because of finding them on weekend sales less than 2 months later.

    I like what GOS Shoes does! You will never EVER see their event shoes on sale other than once a year for the Black Friday (November) weekend. Instead, when GOS does weekend sales, they put special color out of some of their more popular shoe styles that are only available for the weekend sales.

    I’ve also seen some of the better clothing designers just put out 1-2 colors (again many time new colors or colors that might only be found in the fatpack) for the weekend sales then offer a discount if you want to buy the fatpack.

    I know that us fashionistas want to support designers but there are great ways to balance between the big events and weekend sales without screwing over us customers. Hats off to those designers who have found that balance!

      • I expect things to go on sale. That isn’t the issue. But when I spent over $700L for an outfit at an event; then less than a month later it is on weekend sale – that is just frustrating. Now I just know with that particular store (well there are a few like that) – just wait for the big event to end because they will put that stuff on weekend sale soon afterwards.

        This past weekend Ison had the Lola Bustier on the weekend sale. I knew I had bought a single color of the top from the store. I looked at redelivery, my original purchase was from early 2021. So knowing they put on sale a top that has been out for a year – that makes sense. (and I bought the fatpack – that’s a really nice top!)

However, since she started to be more careful about making sure the HUDs from previous purchases worked on updated sizes, that’s helped a lot. Also, there’s been some updates to the FPs, but you wouldn’t know that because you don’t follow BB. Please, get informed before making judgements about BB that you know nothing about.

    • You aren’t being screwed over if something you buy later goes on sale. You made the purchase because you wanted to, at the price listed, you got your money’s worth-unless there was something wrong with it of course. Merchants are only losing out on potential money by not putting things on sale now and then, new or old things. They’re not being altruistic and “doing it for their customers”, that’s just some stupid thing some of them say to appease gullible people who will believe it. Maybe they just don’t want to put in any extra work to put it in a sale. Do you get mad when people at the grocery store get things on sale that you paid full price for last week too?

      • There are quite a few RL retailers, large ones even, that will refund their customers the difference if the purchase was within 14 days of a sale start. It’s just good practice and good business. You might think it counterproductive, because they’re giving back money, but which retailer are you more likely to shop at? The one who cares enough to give you some money back, or the one that says “too bad, so sad, better luck next time”? We both know you’re getting the money back.

        That’s just addressing the last rhetorical question you posed to Lillith, not the entire thing.

      • The 14 day thing is actually a Federal Law in the United States. if you purchase ANYTHING and it goes on “sale” within 14 days of you purchasing it – you can take your receipt back to the store and the store MUST refund you the difference.

    • Honestly, I am getting really tired of ‘anonymous’ peeps, creators whoever complaining about the sale events, and how much they think the event owners make. First, their success does not take anything away from you. Does it? Do you have any idea how much work these events are, and RL money put into it for advertising, and employee wages? Clearly, you don’t! If you really are a ‘large brand designer’ you would be putting more time and effort into your mesh, than spouting off and whining here! But of course It’s easier for you to complain than accept responsibility for yourself and lack of a good product and your inability to make a decent amount of linden. I work for one of these events, and every week, our designers are racing to the sign up forms, and if for whatever reason didn’t make it in time, begging to get in, because they all know that the sale brings more customers in, and most people buy more than what is on sale. Every week, I get messages from designers asking how to get into our events. I don’t know for sure, but you must be one of those disgruntled designers not able to make the cut. As one of the event workers, I am happy for their success. They worked hard for it. They had an idea, and worked their tail off to become recognized and successful. They don’t have to explain anything to anyone. Period. All this post says about you is that you are jealous and not willing to work on your product. Grow the F up! And for our creators in our events, thank you! We appreciate you. And for our customers, thank you too, we also appreciate you, because it is because of you also that we are successful.     You have no clue how helpful sales events are to struggling new brands. I entered into an event over a month ago in a sponsor spot. Sold less than 5 of the item. I did not make even close to 1/3 if my fee back.

    Just did a sales event. Item under 100 L$. Made close to 10k less than 2 days.

    That sales event brought new customers looking for sales, but also brought sales of regular priced items which many also bought while there.

    I’ll be damned if I ever sink money into paying for a sponsor booth again.

(I can’t speak for other countries but I think while markets are a big thing overseas – i believe malls are a uniquely American thing – again – i could be wrong) but sounds like an event creator is getting butt hurt cause people are abandoning going to events in lieu of the weekend/weekly sales. Sorry – it’s tough for everyone out there – SL is a luxury item for literally 110% of consumers who don’t make a living from SL. So I am going to shop where I can get the most bang for my buck. YES here is USA we MOSTLY shop in Huge Malls and Shopping Complexes where we can find all the GOOD BRANDS in ONE place, have parking spots and also protection from weather conditions.         In malls people have a large variety of goods to choose from whether branded or non- branded products. Same I think is in SECOND LIFE.

Why would they buy your items at full price if they know that you will have them on weekend sale soon? This is what is happening now in sl and designers are getting hurt of this situation. What you don’t understand is that you did this to yourself by selling your work low. For 60l. If you think this is how much your work worth…. 😞😐

      • Malls in my part of the US (a large metroplex) are struggling, especially in the aftermath of Covid. Once booming shopping malls have fallen victim to the after effect of the lockdown and the growing level of inflation. More people are doing more shopping online, and whilst they may still make their way to physical stores and shopping areas/malls, they are not spending the majority of their money there. Property owners are having to raise the amount they charge to lease their properties, which means the retailers are having to decide if and how many physical locations to have, and of what size. This also means that property owners are having a more difficult time overall trying to keep these spaces leased.

        Granted there are areas where the financial impact is not felt in the same way, but there are more areas that are than are not. This has no more to do with the size of an area today than it did in the past, and the insinuation that it does is steeped in ignorance.

      • We cannot really compare malls in RL to SL events, the only thing they have in common is the concept of shared customers base, other than that its a total different reality. I do not live in US and malls here where i live are doing fine, because it is still considered as a great entertainment area to take the family, do a little shopping in a safe environment and keep the kids happy during off screen time. In SL we go to events to see what is new, to find other stores than the ones we know and to shop. Shopping makes people happy, it is a relaxing activity to most of us, probably because while we are shopping we are not thinking about all the crap that is going on in our lives.

        Now about events and discounted events, the difference is only the number of customers, because those who can buy from regular events buy from both, those who do not have the resources will only shop from sales. Either way stores are making money from both and is probably not that big of a difference in terms of profit, because you sell less copies from a regular event than you sell doing a sale so one complements the other. Oh and in SL we have unlimited copies, so there is no continuous production costs. And that was what the #49 is all about they just failed to do the right math, because the number of purchases on a sales event is way higher than just the double comparing to a regular event and both of them are still a good profitable source for stores.

        Peony, events should consider their crowd before adding stores, because participation is not free. You were probably in one of those events that were created to scam small designers, they will make you believe you can make your money back and earn some more then they will blame you for your misfortune saying it was your item’s fault.

    Are you really getting ticked off at a creator for making a new product?  Did you get upset at Lelutka for creating the Evo and EvoX heads?     Did you get pissed at eBody for going from their original bodies to the Reborn?    Did you throw a tantrum when TMP created the Legacy body?   

    The original Belleza bodies were created over seven years ago, I think? Do you really expect free updates in perpetuity?  Name a RL product that does that.

    You don’t have to buy the new body if you don’t want it – but let’s be honest – support for the Belleza women’s bodies has been waning for quite some time.

    You’re allowed to feel the way you feel, but you talk about working hard to buy things – but you’re bitching because a business is releasing a new product? How do you think they make their money?

    I’m going to give it a shot and if I like it, I’ll buy it.

I am willing to bet Belleza will release it and it will fall by the wayside, no support minimal updates.

      • as for creators making for many bodies, honestly as a new creator, I dont mind creating for multiple bodies. A lot of my friends have some rarely seen bodies, like tonic and I have many alts who do too, so rigging for those kind of helps them in the long run, and may as well stick em in my things for sale. sure probably no one will buy it specifically for those lesser used bodies, but who knows, they might. it doesnt break the bank to upload a couple differnt models. What i do hate is Maitrey is pretty much the only body that I can’t rig for. Kupra at least told me what they wanted out of me and I am working towards it. maitreay, radio silence. so I will be doing my clothing releases without maitreya, but plenty of other bodies.

      • It certainly has stiff existing competition, but Belleza has demonstrated the ability to put out better bodies than most, including some that are still more popular now. The shape of those meshes was easily the superior choice when Belleza, Slink, and Maitreya were the Big 3. If the new one looks good enough, people will buy it, and the content creators will follow. As long as the creator doesn’t release a broken mess and fail to fix it in a timely manner, there’s no reason why this new body can’t get popular- it’s all about how it looks. If the mesh is unremarkable compared to Legacy and Reborn, then you’re probably right- that’s the market he has to aim for. It’s unlikely to appeal to Kupra users, since thus far Belleza only does realism, and Maitreya users are already ignoring superior meshes every day; no reason to think yet another better looking option is going to change anything.

      • Maitreya users might finally get a supported alternative and I’m 100% for that. eBody is too sexualized for me to use on my adult avatar account (it’s the butt, I’m uncomfortable with that on me. If others like it for themselves – cool) and I refuse to support Legacy. If Belleza puts out a good body that isn’t fetish and gets support, I’d be willing to update.

      • I actually think the new generation bodies from Belleza might finally save designers from having to rig for Maitreya broken mesh body. A lot of people have refused to switch from Maitreya to Legacy because they do not want to support the old TMP crew and true is besides Legacy and the outdated Physique from Slink and Venus/Isis from Belleza there is no other options for skinny/average avatars in the mesh body market that is supported for most content creators. I could be wrong, but i hope i am not  😅

      • Yes! Physique is an outdated body because is pointless to buy or use a body that most content creators do not support anymore. I have nothing against Slink i have both Physique and Hourglass bodies and i tell more Hourglass was my favorite body for years, i only stopped using it because most of my favorite stores stopped supporting it. If from what i wrote in my comment you think i am a Maitreya supporter LOL you should go read it again because is completely the opposite.  😂

This late in the life cycle of a product, the only updates they’d be getting would be bug fixes, barring possibly adding compatibility for new features which they’ve already done.     That said, most “furry” bodies you see these days are the same Maitreya, Belleza, Slink, whatever bodies that human avatars wear, just with sparkledog skin and fox heads and paws attached or whatever.

    As for heads, you can kinda get away with it because fuzzbutts are for the main part, generally more toony. If you want more “photo” avatars, creators like Dreamcrawler or Jomo generally got you covered.

    • Lucy is so desperate for friends that she’ll keep her in events. Lucy has fired good people but will keep a crappy person like Sammy just because Sammy kisses her ass. Being liked is more important to Lucy because most of us with even a grain of sense keep away from her. Post #1 summed her up perfectly

You’re def a “designer!” Look, if everyone did a weekend sale the market would be as oversaturated as events are and people would get burnt out wrecking sales for everyone else.     Look, prices are up because while you’re suffering the creators are too. Inflation is affecting everyone and not just you. We need to make due with what we have or go without sometimes. It is not incumbent for people to discount and kill their bottom line for you. They have upload and rent costs to pay because sims aren’t free.
