      • As someone who once took SL very seriously, I can attest to what Whambulance is saying. Almost everyone talks shit and passes logs between friends. Usually not too malicious, just a ā€œWTF was thisā€ and is kept private. But I didnā€™t know one person who didnā€™t make it a habit to keep receipts.

        I met several people in RL from SL, and the usual story was that we didnā€™t keep in touch afterwards because of whatever reasons. Usually the ending wasnā€™t happy or we just grew apart. I have some former SL friends that I keep a small Discord with, my immediate SL family, but itā€™s a very small circle and we all mostly quit around the same time.

        Now we focus on consoles because keeping an updated gaming PC is just costly and a waste of space. Still laugh at this place though. I rarely recognize the names, but when I do, I usually find out the people posted didnā€™t graduate past junior college.

    I did a commission to that person a while ago. Maybe 2 years ago.

    While the whole experience was nice and pleasant andf not that pricey the final result was not the same as her flickr pictures.

    It took her less than an hour to do my pics, when you can tell that she puts hours on them. The final result was like she had put a sort of white foggy filter on top of the pic, and the face of my avi was super creepy (she used her Lelutka axis hud to change the animation of my head).
    So basically the result was way different, and not as nice.

    Most of the french community heard about the way she does her pics, and we do know that there is some slight editing going on. So no, you arenā€™t fully honest Emeline when it comes down to your work.

    So, dunno if she was lazy that day.. But something that I do remember, if that when she took my pictures she was wearing an outfit, and later that day she posted a pic on her flickr using it, and her face, tatts, lightning on the body was way different.

It’s about that friend taking your feelings into consideration in their decision to date your ex or not, and a good friend will do that. Every situation is different, in some it might not be any big deal and in others it could be a huge deal.     • You have no idea the kind of damage Chobi has done. Some people lost their entire careers after learning to mesh and having their networked supporters sabotaged. I know of 3 of them, but I quit SL not long after that and deleted my accounts. I was never a big name in SL. Was no sweat off my back. But 60% of being a successful creator is having a support system, networking with events, etc. Chobii would wipe your tears with one hand while laughing and sharing the logs with another.

    I’ve made a commission to her a while ago. While the overall experience was great and she was super friendly, the final result was way different than the results on her flickr page, and scary.

    The final result was super foggy, almost as she has added a sort of white foggy layers on the picture, and she actually changed the animation of my head with her Lelutka axis HUD, and gave me a super creepy grin.

    The final result was made in less than an hour, when you can clearly tell that the pictures that she post on her flickr are indeed edited.

    I will fully trust that she don’t edit her pic, the day she’ll do a full time-lapse video about her taking a pic and proving A+B that the pictures aren’t edited.

    I’d like to direct everyone’s attention to the tasty chicken mctendie that OP sprinkled in there in #42: their bodies have a customer Killswitch in it. So if they decide they don’t like you or how you act (or for any reason, really), in theory, they can activate this and prevent you from using the product you paid for. There is nothing stopping them from doing this, btw and people really ought to be more aware of this. At the minimum, customers should be demanding that it’s removed because it’s incredibly shady.

    And I’m going to pre-emptively address the “well it’s their product, they should be able to decide how to protect it” debate:

    The customer already paid for that body; breaking it on purpose afterwards is theft.

    For example, I know at least half of you here are anti-Maitreya; but as shit as the creator is with her attitude towards creator accessibility and dev kit and weights, when she went anti-furry after they created that dev kit for the body themselves, at least she only banned them from accessing her stuff created from then on. She didn’t flip a switch and make the product defective that they already had because that’s something an asshole does.

    And it’s bonkers because I’m saying “oh at least she’s not stealing from you by taking your cash then breaking your stuff on purpose” like it’s not the bare fucking minimum to expect from stores in a digital venue like SL.

    The other argument I forsee is: “well if you don’t plan on doing anything wrong, this won’t effect you.”

    Tl;dr: As pointed out by OP, Legacy having a Killswitch in their bodies should be kind of a big deal for consumers that isn’t taken lightly because it puts everyone at risk who uses the products (creator and non-creator).

        All those things you listed have actual legal documents and end user agreements that have been written by actual legal professionals that disclose and outline expectations for both parties when a service or product is used. These companies and policies are also subject to laws and regulations based on wherever they’re located in order to protect the consumer public.

        SL mesh bodies are not subject to any of these things, and like most things in SL, it’s caveat emptor. As I stated in my post, there are no repercussions, aside from bad press, for them activating a killswitch and fucking you over. In the real world, if that happened, there are avenues to pursue legal retaliation (assuming it was done illegally or in bad faith). That risk of retaliation is what keeps companies from deactivating those things people use in general circumstances.

        Given the wild west state of affairs for consumers in SL, in addition to Legacy’s intentional neglect to mention the mechanism in place, it’s reasonable for people to become upset because that’s the only weighted currency left in that situation (they already have your money after all).

      • All of this stuff may be true, but even before all of that we all know that Second Life is a virtual platform and everything we’ve purchased on it isn’t “real”- we’ll never actually have possession or control over any of it, and we agreed to that as part of the TOS. LL has zero obligation to keep it running, and we might someday lose every dollar we’ve spent there if they just decide to shut the servers down; they don’t have to give us any notice either. I feel like worrying about these things on any level is kinda pointless and circular. There’s literally nothing we can do to change them if they do happen.

Will Linden Labs sell the technology?         Those are all things you’ve said, this week, that directly conflict with each other. It’s obvious you have some kind of developmental disability, but it’s equally obvious that it doesn’t prevent you telling right from wrong, or good from evil- you just choose evil.         Let me be very clear- not every one deserves acceptance, or love, or indeed to breathe the same air I do. Countless executions of criminals prove society agrees- some people deserve to die.     • I want someone to explain to me how making BOM is a “hardship” compared to making appliers, because I’ve made both for my own personal use, and appliers definitely have more steps. If you have the textures, BOM is just a click and choose/drag and drop into the new layer, name and save, update permissions if needed, done. Appliers require you to make HUDs, although Omega does include sample HUDs and I’m sure that lazy ass person uses them. If they do that sucks, because you get no preview or labels on the buttons. Then you have to pull UUIDs and copy/paste them into multiple notecards, drop scripts and notecards in separate HUD buttons, verify the scripts are working, before you can even do the “name and save/permission change” steps.

      I just went and looked at their new vagina- has the Psicorp creator even seen the options that have come out recently? That shit is totally cartoonish, years behind texture/realism wise. The only cool thing is that they’re rigged for the male bodies of each brand too.

    BOM literally has a bot tied to a users UUID spawned on an unreachable sim that renders out all your textures onto a flat image, uploads that, and sends it back. It’s INCREDIBLY complex for something that could’ve easily been done on the viewer.

    Pros – once you log off, the uuids are destroyed. Nice for preventing copybots since you can only rip the flat texture which is temp to begin with.

    Cons – complex af, lags out sometimes requiring a rebake or moving sims (1st world problems), and using the standard avatar system limitations.

How ever, you’re right, not to mention you need to be an ACTUAL BUSINESS to have a contract that’s legally binding. Since furry kinks is not, it cannot. PLUS you’d have to REGISTER your business with linden labs as well in order to have your contracts legally binding IN SL. Since you’re using SL assets in order to not only run your business, but also their UV’s. That’s not to mention also speaking to every fucking creator since you’re trying to use THEIR UV’s and taking claims over those and that’s not going to go over well.       But then again, Abnormality keeps letting in people who put in little to no effort, and/or use entirely premade assets and textures, so maybe the event runners simply don’t care. Don’t know what it is about furry creators, but people seem to let terrible behavior and business practices slide, and then act like it never happened and keep supporting these people. Remember when Pikazoo slandered dozens of creators, accusing them of all being alts of one person like some crazy paranoid conspiracy, and everyone just forgot about it and let them continue to participate in events? Yeah. That kind of thing. Or how tons of “bigger” furry names have absolutely terrible track records for being self-absorbed jackasses who treat customers and other creators like trash, but still get themselves spots in all the events.

      We need to start holding people accountable and stop letting people “forget” about it. If you choose to be a dick, you deserve to face consequences.

        When it comes to events, you have multiple parties trying to control the event. If an event is good it will take everyone regardless of reputation and control things from there.

        There’s ALWAYS going to be one creator coming into their DMs saying just what you did and encouraging harassments or removal of the other party. We already saw this happen with Furry Snout. FK does have a shitty reputation, but as long as they behave inside the event, there’s nothing that can be done.

        This should be how venues, clubs, and stores operate. It’s always going to be a case by case system. You don’t see people getting banned from their iphones just because you pissed off their twitter account now do ya?

        Events are a privilege; a showcase for creators, so to speak. It is absolutely not a “right” and quality control is needed.

        Furry Snout’s downfall was part of this problem – people were being excluded because they kept bloating their participant list with the same idiots who put in low effort & behave like turds, thus squashing any chance of a new creator coming on board.

        The same applies to other events like Abnormality. I’m sure there are a bunch of talented creators who’d love to give it a shot. Those people could be more included by freeing up the slots that Furry Kinks & the people using premade/stolen assets are taking.

        Who cares if they can behave themselves “in the event”? If an event is knowingly hosting a toxic creator who is causing problems everywhere else, that looks terrible on the event runners part. Sure maybe they don’t know. I’m not saying Abnormality or anyone else is guilty and allowing people like FK on purpose. But there comes a point where it starts to get obvious. Word about FK is traveling fast, and as for other content thieves and low effort submissions, well those advertise themselves.

        Obviously I’m not calling for people to be removed from events because of one claim. But I don’t think we’re talking about one claim here. FK’s behavior has claims from many people & proof. Same goes for some other creators.

      • Totally understand your take, honestly it’s all on how the event owners manage things. I do think looking into a creators background is a good idea to ensure that they can cooperate with the staff and other participants. It would be a lot less of a hassle if everyone got along xD

        There are plenty of talented people who can use base mesh and templates to create something wonderful. Iggy’s templates are a good example and you can easily find the ones that can turn it into something completely interesting.

        Same goes for fashion designers, base mesh is probably all they can use despite how unoptimized it is. If they can turn a piece of crap into something worth selling, that might just be the push they need to try things a bit more seriously. With some good funding they could also purchase the tools they desire or even commission someone for mesh and problem solved!

        Right now SL is in a spot where nothing good is easy for the budding creator/hobbyist to easily access (looking at you legacy and all you dumb restricted body kits!)
        the only way to access such things is to already be well known, or show skills in mesh and texturing, and have your own store. but not just one will work!

        hec the amount of hurdles you have to take to even get that dev kit is why copybots and other such ripping methods are even encouraged. Just make it easy and you don’t gotta worry about all the bs!

They will still welcome affiliations but no means of becoming partners. If i dig hard enough I am sure I can find that email.
