      • If it makes a difference I was born an raised in Hawaii to a military family who did not live on base housing. My fathers MOS kept him on the islands 22 of his 30 years in the service and I was the haole kid of about 2 dozen white kids. It may not be the exact same but I was severely bullied, beat up.     • About 23, it’s not that the imagery is the same, it’s that it’s very clearly a very slightly modified version of either that turbosquid mesh or some other 3D scan. It’s a bit of a stretch to say it’s “100% original” when you’re using someone else’s work no matter how much you changed it. The original was made by Paul Komoda in ’94, the version that was scanned there looks to be the re-work done by Axel.

But, some items are from stores which might not be in operation anymore. The creator may have quit SL, or passed or just hard to get ahold of. Sometimes it’s easier and quicker to edit yourself to fit a head that it’s not compatible with.

    • It’s a gray area. A lot of creators are secretly or openly okay with it as long as the edit is for personal use only, there’s no version already available for purchase, and the person owns the original. Any creator worth their salt also knows how to get textures sans a “copybot viewer” too.

    • I’ve paid for pro since well before I had any significant following and this change had zero effect on me what so ever. The reasons I chose to have pro is to keep better track of my analytics, to see where my views and clicks are coming from and how to better reach and grow my following. I enjoy photography and photoshop as a hobby and having others validate my effort and appreciate the content I make is a rewarding experience for me. As far as ego’s go I’m way more confident in my writing ability than my photography and hate at least half of the pictures I’ve posted. I don’t know who or what hurt you but you are holding onto a lot of aggression for a community that does nothing to harm you in any way? You are not required to browse flickr and if you follow quality photographers and bloggers you won’t have to see “95% of pure junk”.

      I’m sorry that SL has provided Flickr ( a business ) with a massive community and income source? People taking pictures of gum on the street isn’t artistic expression it’s just gum on the street. I’d much rather see a top tier avatar in SL portrayed in a creative, moving, or inspiring. SL photography is something ANYONE can do or recreate or learn for themselves, it doesn’t require expensive cameras, lighting, or travel and you can tell just as much of a story with SL photos as you can with the gum you used your $1400 Nokia to snap a picture of.

I haven’t made them for evo x. If someone rips the texture for their own personal use and not to sell or spread around freely by all means. But the moment it’s passed around or sold, I have an issue. I myself have taken textures to modify and edit for my own personal use and not to sell. I don’t really see this as an issue but if it’s known that someone is selling the modified version then yes I’m sure myself and the main owner of the crone would like to know. I know other creators don’t feel the same and it’s I guess a personal thing. But myself the items I have made for the crone, I say go for it just use it for yourself only.

    • Not disagreeing exactly, but this may have some negative ramifications for people not in that group. I’ve seen some really beautiful pictures posted that have breasts exposed tastefully, I’d hate to see those artists discouraged. The other problem would be that this may drive more users to improperly moderate their content until they get ‘caught’.

      Part of me wonders what the overall effect this move will have on the already questionable Flickr longevity. Tumblr banned everything they deemed adult content and it destroyed the platform. This isn’t exactly the same, but paywalling the content worries me that it’ll do something of the same.

      The cynical part of me wonders if the latter concern is by design and they want to bleed what money they can before killing the platform off. Weren’t they complaining about how much money it was losing not that long ago and that it was in a financial death knell?

    • The issue as to why a majority are leaving flickr, isn’t JUST because we can’t post NSFW works anymore. It’s also because their Ai moderation system is fucking bullshit. You get flagged for an SFW image and it gets flagged moderate because there’s just a bit too much cleavage. Or hell even in NSFW, your content can be flagged as feral just because it’s a furry. The fucking moderating on images is shit, accounts are getting banned and this just makes it worse because not even a month or two prior, they did an entire survey on the secondlife community to figure out what we classify our images as. This is pretty much a huge fucking ” fuck you” To the secondlife community and a backhanded slap in the face. =/

      • Have you ever considered that Flickr was not made for sad, insecure people who feel the need to post pictures of their avatars because they apparently they don’t get enough attention in their daily life as well as their second life so they need to compensate by feeding their hunger to be liked? The majority of these pics has absolutely 0 art value.

      • While flickr wasn’t MADE for that, it’s obviously gained a following and they fully saw that. That most of their traffic and most of what brought others to flickr. Was SECOND LIFE. My point is, they’re going out like tumblr because the moment you start barring off the people who MADE YOUR SITE POPULAR, is the moment you can kind of kiss your site good bye. It’d be like furaffinity barring off all NSFW content when THAT is what most people go to FA for, or barring off any ability to make sales on it. Which, A LOT of creators on there, use that site as a means to sell their works.

    First off, artists use reference like ALL the time. Consent is kinda a dumb way to put it since everyone takes inspiration from others. The only time when an artist will truly try to replicate another is called an “artist study” where they try to recreate the style as best they can in hopes to learn something from it. Practically every manga/anime artist does this to learn the craft.

    Also the argument presented is totally on point, Psicorp has their products posted publicly on their website showing what the model can/can’t be used for in terms of a product. That’s not really going to stop an artist use them for reference so….yea it’s a bit of an overreaction from both of them.

    Also psi commented that he made the model…so is that traced? Last I remember clip studio has a feature where you can import models and convert it into lines…what’s the difference?

    Threatening action is a bad stance because anyone using them will essentially get witch hunted. Unless there’s actual profit behind the reference, I don’t see a problem with taking this and making my own model and tagging them the credit they deserve. I learned something because THEY helped me, but now I want no part in that because I’m just going to get attacked because it’s “their style”.

    • I think that you’ll find that is complete bullshit if you actually read it; you used to be able to rip BOM UUIDs by using Export to XML under Developer menu options, but they fixed that a while back so you just get strings of zeros now. Why do that if stealing textures isn’t against TOS? Because it totally is. Not just LL’s TOS, but nearly every creator’s personal TOS as well, which is just as valid and you tacitly accept by purchasing their products.

      It’s still not called “copybotting” to steal textures though; it’s funny how many people will defend being blatantly wrong with the answer just one tab and search away.

      What is Copybotting?
      CopyBot is a program written with libsecondlife (not affiliated with or distributed by the libsecondlife team) that connects to Second Life which allows users to make copies of objects without the permission of their creators. CopyBot does not need permissions to copy an object. (Which is why making things “no mod” is pointless and needlessly punishing to paying customers, but that’s a whole other topic.)
