    Choosing to play an Asian is no different than choosing to play a DJ. I have gone out of my way to help *fake* DJ’s step up thier skills and become live mixing DJ’s. I remember a time when a DJ in SL meant you HAD to use SAM as your broadcaster, which is not a DJ application, it is a BROADCASTER application. It really helps those who want to DJ in the traditional radio sense, and is a great program for that. I have no qualms with it, and time has indeed proven that voiceover DJ’s tend to make more tips than quiet playlisters. I do not draw a line, on any of them! We should be free to use SL to learn to follow our passions.

    What is my point here? If someone enjoys or wants to learn asian culture, I do believe SL is a viable place to do it. Almost none of us are asian in our sim, but we have learned so much about asian culture, and welcome any and all, from real asians to those curious about it. Let’s not act as if every culture does not have it’s own predjudices and backwards ideals. We do not promote underage for example, yet anyone familiar with the problems of asia culture will admit that there is a huge disparity between what is done daily and what is acceptable to western culture.

    If someone chooses an different ethnic/racial/culture background than their birth, who is anyone to say they have done wrong? Are people playing lawyers just terrible and bad people? Are beginners makeing horrible mesh to be slandered because they are learning?

    I remember why I didn’t bookmark this site. Elitists never change, you will never measure up, and there is always a fault because you didn’t meet the expectations of someone in RL…. on a virtual world.

    • They weren’t banned from the Cedar Creek Group in Second Life (you can see who is banned). They can just leave or kicked. Mary is actually Xena. If you spent some time in Cedar Creek and you were active in the Discord, the messages made by Xena were actually Mary’s messages. Mary and Jade have a common group just for them.

Even Omega barely fit across heads because nobody *really* wanted to stick to it so they made their own that was kind of close to SLUV. I’d rather just buy it again than look halfass, hadn’t you?

    • It would also never work. Customizing the look of your heads, as a creator, requires that kind of modification. It has to be more than in the mesh’s rigging limitations and base shape. Also, Omega UVs do not support higher texture resolutions the last I saw.

      • Omega UVs support the maximum size texture you can upload (1024 if I recall). Since all it’s doing is sending the texture UUID in chat to the body part to set the texture of that part to that uuid. That’s how most (possibly all?) appliers work. Omega appliers could in theory send any texture over as the UUID as it has no actual idea what that texture it’s sending is in reality.
        Also Lelutka’s EvoX is kind of wasteful as far as your computer resources are concerned given that if you upload a 1024X1024 size texture for the head and yet ANOTHER for the ears (It’s two separate textures per head now instead of 1 as it was) that’s more crap your computer has to render then it would have if it was only using the old setup of only 1 texture. The whole advantage of having bakes on mesh finally introduced was to reduce the number of textures needed to load not come up with ways to add more!
        And I mean sure the SLUV (or omega uv) is laid out poorly and wasteful in it’s own right in how it uses it’s texture real estate and it’s difficult to get all heads to match the layout perfectly but at least it democratizes mesh head making for creators in a way. With proprietary head textures people are more or less only going to buy the brand head that gets the most makeup options made for it. With SLUV as the main UV layout any creator could make a head matching that UV and sell it and people could get makeup for it. Yeah the buyers will need to try demos of the makeup to make sure it fits but….that’s what demos are for. If more creators have a even a hope or prayer of selling their product that will mean there are more mesh heads available on the market and more variety for people so we’re not all carbon clones of each other.
        Yes we DO need to make a standard UV for all creators. Let’s not let mesh heads end up like mesh bodies where only a few select creators/brands can actually sell things with any real success. I’d rather not end up a clone of everyone else in face as well as body thank you very much.

      • Fuck that. If you take a good look at the Evo X skins and makeup, you’ll see how much more detailed they are, like being able to offer HD makeup in BOM which the SLUV can’t do. My eyelids and BOM eye makeup don’t distort when I close my eyes; no one using the SLUV can make that claim. Only appliers can look that good on any other brand. My ears also look better than any mesh attachment ear with a flawless match in both skin and materials, and have RIGGED piercing options that no other ears can use.

        Apparently they are also easier templates for creators to work with; there’s really no downside unless loading an extra ear texture is more than your machine can stand. Some people will be willing to pay for the proprietary stuff to look that much better, and have the PCs to rez it without issues; just because some other people can’t or aren’t willing to catch up doesn’t mean those things shouldn’t exist. The old stuff is still there, no one is taking it away, and looking dated is just the natural consequence of failure to keep pace with progress. It doesn’t mean the progress shouldn’t happen.

        Lelutka has 6 female heads that are Evo X capable at this point, and there will be many more once the Evo line is all updated. There’s no reason to assume using Evo X will make people “clones”; that’s just a salty swing and a miss. They actually have more heads than any other major creator unless you count the OLD Catwa options- and you shouldn’t- she only has 4 HDPro heads, 2 of which are nearly identical. Genus has 8 total heads and they may never update. Akeruka has about 10 according to their Flickr, but they have very little support, which is why they have Lelutka UV options just so you can find skins for them. GA.EG, Vista, and LAQ never got much for a foothold, and I see almost nothing released for them ever. OPTIONS are what prevent a clone look, and Evo X options are increasing exponentially every day.

        We DON’T need a standard UV for all creators, and we DON’T need to hold back progress for the sake of broke or stubborn people. If you can’t manage a unique look, that’s on you.

      • Update: Lelutka has already updated 10 female heads to Evo X, another 4 came out while I wasn’t paying attention. There are still 4 more left. Anyone else offering that many up to date options? Nope.

    • Their sim was so laggy you could barely move in it when I visited…and even when all the 10 I think sims were only half on prim count. Whoever made the place had absolutely no idea how to. A bunch of expensive stuff rammed together doesn’t make a good build no matter how much money you spent.

      Can’t say anything about the hud because every time I tried to get it I just got errors…

      Their list of staff was MASSIVE and they kept adding new places when the sim was barely getting any traffic. I only ever saw maybe 4 people in all 10 sims at once and never found rp.

      Did they really just not let people go get their stuff?? How did that work with rent/tier? I remember some stupid rp currency to rent but you also seemed able to just buy that with real money.

      • oh people only pay for their rentals through the rp hud gold. Cause renting there was “free” so no, no one paid L. But when the owner shut the sim down, for as they say revamping, some people ask if they could get their stuff and got told no. One vendor demanded they send their vendor stuff back. Yeah their staff is massive and just a bunch of bullies, they all jump a player for just asking questions about a rp. They would start rp sim events, drop them just as fast. They really think people like their sim, but their sim is widely talked about in other sims, in a very bad way. They really shouldn’t bother reopening, not unless they get rid of the whole staff.

      • aside from admins verbally assaulting players in discord, not really. A lot of favoritism played there. Pretty much if you are on staff, you get to do whatever you want. I have talk to a few who got harassed and said when they brought it to the staff, nothing happen and were treated like they were the issue. I know the admins use to yell at people for coming to them with issues. I just laugh that they think rebranding is going to just make everyone forget how toxic they are.

Legacy straight up lied on their website. It clearly stated anyone could get their mesh kits when the body was initially released. As long as you applied with adobe and with the information, they said you could create mesh for their body. Then they lied. Now both of those kits are freely available in multiple places if you know where to look. If they kept with honesty they could have kept track how they wanted. I have no sympathy for them. The best bodies to apply for are Signature and Belleza. Belleza is looking like they may do updates here shortly.

Does it occur to you that not one of the SL creators/designers owe us anything for one they were free to come and they are free to go, w/without any explanation to any of us. Someone put Genus through SL/RL hell and if that creator has washed their hands of their brand and SL, so be it. I can’t say I blame them. The heads are/were lovely but nothing is forever. Lelutka also makes awesome mesh heads, but so do many other creators. Not one of them promised to live and die at their pcs because you spent money on their products. They ARE real people with lives outside of SL. Just like everyone else. Move on .

    • You don’t seem to get that they’ve been constantly promising updates since they came back from the DMCA. If they wanted to wash their hands of the heads and SL, they could just say that or shut up and say nothing, instead of just asking people to be patient over and over again. They are the ones who swear the updates are coming. Why would you weigh in on a situation you obviously know nothing about?

Thanks!” I think people would be able to accept that vs the never ending litany of “We hear your cries of disappointment and here’s a high five! Suck it up!”

      • Nope. They promised updates for a year BEFORE the DMCA, and they certainly released plenty of communications about the DMCA. They never even bothered trying to fix that stupid eye problem, and then started releasing new heads that also had the eye problem. I bought that first Genus head June 16, 2018. The DMCA was reported in April 2020. They freaking had TWO YEARS to fix the rapid fire blinking.

        If the person died or got sick, the store staff could have easily sent out communications about that (like was done for Sn@tch when Ivey got cancer).

      • Nah I was just there a week or 2 ago, checking to see if she was doing any Legacy support yet. She is, btw. Still full perm meshes but her textures have always been better than most, so if there’s a full perm item out there that looks cute you can be pretty sure she did it justice. I don’t know what she’s doing with all that outdated hair, but her clothes are as good as they’ve ever been.

I was in that Discord, until I gave up and went Lelutka with zero regrets. I saw MANY assurances that updates were coming, if we would just be patient, from Genus staff- and many times people were shushed or even shamed for stating their honest opinions about the situation. They do owe customers something when they send out a defective product that they never intended to fix. Genus was just a cash grab.

      • I wear the Genus heads, I am in their group. Their CSR do assist with issues. I never saw anyone PROMISE anything TBH, of course I am not always online. No one is always online. Whatever is going on with this creator in the real space of their lives is something we are NOT entitled to know. They owe us nothing. I do not see the head as defective at all maybe you just need to learn how to use it.

      • Bullshit. They did actively promise in group chat (and in at least one notecard) that they were going to fix the issues that have been going on since Genus released their very first head. The eyes have been borked since that first head, and I had to buy an add-on from another store just to get my avatar to not look ridiculous.

        It would have taken the store owner or the store managers 15 seconds to create a notecard AFTER the DMCA debacle ended to state what their status was, and they never did it.

        They failed at a blink. Yes, a simple blink, probably one of the easiest parts of a mesh head to script. Imagine if you bought a car and a part on it didn’t work. Would you also say that the car manufacturer doesn’t owe you a working product?

      • Uh, the creators themselves have admitted there are many bugs that need to be addressed. Perhaps you should join the Discord that everyone’s talking about if you don’t think there has been any promises made, and to dispell your “nothing’s wrong” delusions. Hey, go find yourself a pair of bento ears and try to use them- watch the sides of your head cave in and stretch like crazy when they move. That’s on top of the eye issues, the glitched animations, and the neck fit issues.

        No one’s gonna take your favorite head away, so stop talking nonsense trying to defend it. I liked my Genus head too, but there comes a point where you have to admit you are being left behind by progress or choose denial- stop choosing denial.
