    • I have never heard of Sands so had to google and found his Facebook. That was 8 minutes I won’t ever get back of my life. Don’t think he even has a store anymore obviously wasn’t very successful in SL. Seems to be a charscter artist so earning what Max 80k a year. So all the “brands” he bad mouths outpace him in success in revenue by miles. Am sure he really worries people LOL. Don’t know the guy of the other guy he was bullying but either way both seem ridiculous.

You’ve got admins that come from GoT sims who are used to the standard of holding people to look a certain way to be part of a certain family (cause genetics). But that is not an appropriate approach for an urban sim where, based on some level of “realism”, means that the world is a melting pot and anyone can look like anything. Re: A prior comment, teens aren’t running the sim, these people are 40+ years.

    Las Almas – just let people look how they want, otherwise you look naive and like you’re micromanaging. The people on your staff have a reputation of being gossipy and controlling when they have power. Be better so the sim has a chance.

Some in SL may love that, sure, and they will kiss the ring finger of these people, believing them to be the second coming of Coco Chanel (more like the third coming of a Kohls discount rack). But Sands, who has nothing to lose in SL, as he has moved on, still has the courage to come here and make time to expose the rampant lies.

      Many of us who do the real work in SL, create with love, by hand, as a cottage industry, can’t afford to stand up like Sands does…because we are condemned to retribution by the majority who lie. So we are quietly grateful for those who can and do say something. It may not change the majority of blind and ignorant ring kissers, but it will at least let people know that there is a fundamental difference between the art of creation in Second Life and the charade of persona in Second Life.

Many have tried before and were eaten alive by wannabes, fan girls, know it alls, and thieves. Whether SL is mature enough to ever handle the truth is left to be seen. But it’s time people get a gut check to understand that maybe 10% of so called “creators” are legitimately working within the context of doing just that, creating. The other 90%? They are stroking their egos with darlings and dogma as they send off their Pinterest “ideas” for someone else to make. Or, if next level down on the “designing” chain, just purchasing assets on 3D websites and bringing them into SL.

  38. It is interesting to see people attacking someone for standing up and speaking the truth about something. The fact is in SL, there is a lot of brands that are now the figurehead, claiming that they are creating the mesh, they are doing all the hard work, the rigging, the sculpting, the texturing, doing the HUD etc. They are claiming work that is not theirs as theirs which is not fair. When you hire an interior designer to come decorate your home, you don’t claim that as your imagination when you know it was not you who designed this home of yours. You don’t walk into a clothing store and then parade around in front of people saying you designed this item you are wearing!?

    Sands, for as long as I have known him, is an honest guy. He doesn’t go around the bush instead he will go straight through it and be up front. In todays world, no one can really handle the truth. They would rather suck up to the brand and make them feel better than realize the truth. Anyone who tries to defend the person that is speaking up will get attacked by the others followers because how dare anyone speak the truth, right?

    Going live and using brushes/stamps in Z Brush doesn’t prove that you know what you are doing, in fact it proved that you do not know what you are doing. No one wants to steal your work or how you do things, you are hiding this because you don’t want people to catch you with your pants down because you clearly do not know what you are doing. I would like to point out that I have seen MANY users in Z Brush, so I can tell the difference between when someone knows what they are doing and doesn’t know what they are doing.

    There is nothing wrong with working with a team of people, just be honest about it. Don’t claim work as yours when it is not. Stop trying to accuse people of the wrong things when you know they see the truth. The evidence is there. But this is the state of play in the world we live in, if all the hard working brands that do it on their own would actually speak up to then people will begin to realize how many teams are out there and how many of them claim work as theirs. You commission someone to do work for you, and should just say my team and I. Instead of I. If they were actually being honest, then none of this would be happening as there would be no need. There is honest brands out there that have stated they are a team or they have someone helping them with whatever. That is fine, but least they don’t claim work as theirs.

    Stop trying to make out Sands is in the wrong when in actual fact he is in the right. Don’t use your own insecurities against him just because he has the balls to speak up. If everyone else could be more honest in this world, things might just get better. I have seen Sands work on many things when creating things from the start. I’ve seen how much time he has placed into any of his projects. I’ve seen him help so many people. But what do you all do? Attack him.

    Everyone is so quick to believe the person that isn’t telling the truth, and would rather put down people who are being honest.

But I would recommend taking a look. Chambers used to be a good spot so was teqis but seems they are deserted too. Most people just park at exhale or clubs with music no idea why ?‍♂️. Hopefully you get some help.

  49. Here is something to consider. You can tell who are real artists and who are fakes. When someone’s avatar in the ad looks so obviously out of proportion, or when they paste a SL head on a DAZ render but can’t even align the neck properly, they look at it and go “oh yeah this looks rightm, let me publish it”.

    You don’t have to be an experienced artist, or have any anatomy training to be able to tell when something looks so obviously wrong. There is no way you are an artist of any level and creating art when you can’t even decipher basic shapes. Yet so many of these so called “artists” publish ads with pasted heads that aren’t even aligned properly, avatars with legs 3x longer than their torso, torso that is 2x longer than the legs etc.

    This is one of the first signs that gives away the fakes to real artists.

    • Think some people in SL and in the US need a bit geographical and historical knowledge. Mexicans are a mix of cultures. There are the indigenous population that the Spaniards conquered, there are Germans and other cultures that have also emigrated there. In fact, their music has heritage in German polka. And Frida Kahlo if I recall, had a German father.

      That being said, I think the actual Sim is the one that’s indicating that you can’t play Mexican unless you put on brownface. Which is ridiculous and IS Racist.   67. Mangula is a brand that has continued to make their “figurehead” Johnny the sole owner and creator and that is false. This week during a live stream Johnny pulled out an already created dress where he pushed around mesh aligning it wrong and adding simple pre-made and pre-purchased stamps to an already created mesh. Time and time again, creators have asked him to share his knowledge, he doesn’t and the truth is, it’s because he can’t. The mesh he creates is made by other people. He’s just a figurehead. He’s afraid to let the community know so he continues to lie about it then acts out when called out a upon his actions. He will not share screenshots of save files, he will not show how to make a simple box or T-Shirt, he will not make any effort to clear his name of said allegations nor will he ever, instead he plays a victim when it’s him lying to take spaces away from actual creators at events. Imagine being on the waitlist for an original mesh event and your space is being taken by someone who isn’t creating original mesh.

    Why is this not acceptable? Making a dress or gown is an artist’s work. He should not be claiming it as his own. He should refer to his brand as a collaborative team.

    Things really became complicated this week in Mangula World. Johnny stated over and over he was the sole creator, the person who did everything and in the middle of a rant stated he has a rigger. The only person with any question of legitimate issue here is Johnny. I hope he comes clean.

      • I am surprised by Rkkn/Nutmeg, first they are expensive, and have an unique look, the whole collection seems to be designed by the same person. I have a question though, if you design the item, then ask a mesher to make it for you, get a blank product back, which you then texture or paint with your own design. Are you still fake? you did 66.6% percent of the work? You just didn’t make the model, it is only one stage of the process?

      • At that point youre more of a concept designer, not content creator. As for texturing, thats no different than buying templates and retexturing them. You can claim its 100% mesh, but its still not your creation, its just your concept brought to life by someone else…unless you give that person credit as a collaboration and split your profits with them. The making of the mesh is buy far the hardest and most crucial part of the process, especially when you are doing more user friendly low poly meshes. If you cant make a decent mesh it doesnt matter what kind of texture you put on it.

      • So, is the real problem one of marketing? These stores are incredibly successful and most people have heard of them, right? So, if they just marketed it as a collaboration (even if the mesh creator isn’t in SL) without doxxing or whatever, would that be acceptable enough for most people?

        I’m genuinely curious how people would feel about that concept. The real fashion industry has loads of this kind of work being outsourced and done by others under the name of a big label designer. The concepts, (real) textures, textiles, and colors, are still the decisions of the named designers themselves (if they are still alive that is). They aren’t doing 100% of the manual labour in RL but are still highly coveted without criticism for not hand stitching every piece of clothing made under their own label.

        But in SL, it seems that if you work with others behind the scenes (who aren’t even in SL), it’s treated like it should be some cancellation clause in a never signed contract that let’s people feel good to say they don’t support XYZ because they arent’ doing 100% of the work.

      • The issue is taking credit for art work that is not yours. You are comparing it to the wrong industry, I don’t know the ins and outs of how fashion industry works irl. You need to compare this to digital art industries, such as film, games, VFX etc.

        Claiming you modeled something when you didn’t, is lying. It doesn’t matter how you try to sweeten the words.

        Claiming you drew something when you didn’t, is lying. It’s still taking credit for another artist’s work.

        Claiming you animated something when you didn’t, is lying. It’s taking credit from an animator.

        Claiming you designed something, when all you did was found a photo of something on pinterest and sent it to your mesher with instructions such as “make the strap a little thicker”. Is not you designing it, you are again lying.

        When you watch Lotr, you don’t see Peter Jackson taking credit for all the models, animations, rigs, concept art and design. He gets credited as the director.

        In SL’s world, look at a brand like MadPea, they are a team, and they also hire out modelers, riggers, scripters etc Have you seen myself or really anyone else call them out? No. Because the owner of MadPea isn’t sitting there pretending to be an artist that did all that.

        Further more, I actually will be talking about this more in the future. It’s how the hiring process is happening. A few years ago a certain well known clothing store brand was listed in a freelance artist’s resume on a website. People were posting screenshots of it. In his resume he said “Created modern clothing for characters for an unannounced open world game for XXXXXXX (name of the brand).”

        The artist was under the impression and told that he was creating content for a game in development, in which he would hope that he would get credited once released and help him push his career forward. Usually artists that are beginners or at the start of their careers take jobs like that because it’s such a competitive field and getting your foot in the door is difficult. This brand (and others like hers) have been taking advantage of these artists. This particular artist had NO IDEA his work was being repackaged and sold on SecondLife. He thought he was part of a team making a open world game.

        Just let that sink in for a minute, imagine being lied to on your job, the work you do, what your work is used for, and how someone is profiting from your work without your knowledge nor your agreement. Imagine spending a year to 2 years of your life thinking you are working on a title that will be released only to find out otherwise.

        It’s a huge scam, let alone how unethical it is. How some of these people are actually trying to defend these crooks and criminals is beyond me.

Does he know I was streaming MD stuff just a few weeks ago on discord and showing people some stuff they have been asking about? My latest personal project is mostly done in MD. MD is actually one of area of expertise.

    He is caught with his tail between his legs, and now is just deflecting. It’s amazing how much time he has spent trying to talk his way out of being accused of not making his own meshes, when he could have spent a tiny fraction of that time proving his work like any normal artist would.

Someone else did. That is his point. People buying their meshes and thinking that adding a few of their textures to it, does not make you 100% original mesh creator. If you think it does that is where the problem is. The people who create 100% (everything involved in the process) are the ones who have the right to claim that 100% original mesh status. You don’t ever have to agree with Sands, but the one thing you cannot deny that person is their level of knowledge and education on the subject.

      • Yes because there is a lot of catfish artists on SL. For example how can you be an artist and not realize how awfully out of proportion the avatar in your ad is? You don’t even need artistic experience or anatomy knowledge to be able to tell something is THAT off. If you don’t have the innate ability to see shapes, no amount of training is gonna make you an artist.

        Same with brands that paste a SL head on a DAZ render, but they don’t even know how to align the neck with the body properly. The results looks so off, no way you can be an artist and go “yeah this looks ok to me, let me publish it.”

        Hate on me all you want, but these are just facts. Every single creator I know that does their own work has gone “WTF” to those stuff, because even a beginner artist would be able to see how wrong they look.

    • Why is a pet even able to “bump” someone else?? I have a folder FULL of attachable pets, from dozens of different creators, and not a single one of them is physical or able to effect someone else.

      But I will agree that having a pet attached while at an event or club is rude, simply for the fact that it unnecessarily adds to the lag since most pets are heavily scripted. I ask people to remove it when they attend my events, and if they don’t like it they can simply leave 🙂

      • Yeah I’m not discounting the possiblity that all pets might not be phantom and some could possibly cause actual collisions, but the real point is wearing a script heavy animesh into a club is a dick move (same with shopping events, for fuck’s sake), and if you’ve got an older pet made with multiple meshes and an alpha system to animate them, that’s even worse.

    • I flew through the club in question, just out of curiosity. Rez is off, llPushObject is restricted. Without using the agent presence to push with, I’m not sure how that pet could have bumped anybody either.

      There were, however, 70 people in the region, and it’s good to absolutely minimize your script usage and complexity in that situation. In that regard, a well-made animesh pet attachment probably uses less script time, vertices and materials than some fitted suit with the resizers and retexture scripts all left in it and listening for HUD requests. Not saying it uses nothing, but probably only as much as some other guy’s animesh dick with meatspin animations at the ready. Or AOs made using old scripting methods that poll every 0.05 seconds. Or some old onion body with a whole load of tattoos on separate layers. All of which you’ll find in spades in your average club. Why? Because fuck you I look pretty and you need to get a better potato, that’s why.

      Meanwhile I’m watching a graphics card way beyond reasonable for SL, in combination with a goddamn Threadripper, screaming their asses off trying to keep up with the godawful mess, while the region simulator is busy giving Amazon cloud services the biggest workout in its history. Quite the baked potato, there.

      Really, go to an empty region, bring up the region stats (that’s ctrl+shift+1) to make sure there’s some spare time to work with, and try to get your total script usage below 2MB and 0.1-0.2ms for outfits you plan to wear in busy regions, particularly those big shopping events that everyone in here loves to bitch about. 5MB is easily enough to fit a ton of bling to an agent, and as for the 15-25MB fatties, GTFO. Don’t tell me it can’t be done. My everyday avatars routinely weigh in at 1.5 to 1MB or less. Get someone to help, if you can’t do it yourself. Here’s a hint: If it can’t be seen, why are you wearing it? If it’s not being used RIGHT NOW, why are you attaching it? Outfits: Learn to use them. Save the animesh danglies for when you’ve hooked up with your sweet little ladyboy catgirl trap for the night and you’re off pixelbanging in your own parcel.

      Oh and if you can’t make yourself look pretty in less than 350k ARC, you’re doing it wrong. Do it right or, again, get someone to help you.

      Or, you know, carry on saying how SL is laggy and shit, everyone else is the problem and I should upgrade my nearly £7000 workstation to cope with your bullshit because it’s evidently a potato.

      • Heh, well it started as a just-an-observation post. Ended up as putting every fatty on the grid on blast. Not so much directed at one person as much as directed to everyone who thinks it’s SL’s fault or everyone else’s fault that they bought the avatar and head that every other script-heavy fatty told them to buy, all the gizmos and trinkets attached at once, did nothing to optimise it, and now their SL experience has a frame rate straight out of 1986.

        Amusingly I also have a 7700K with a 6GB 1060. It’s even worse, when it really shouldn’t be. I know I can turn everyone else into low-frame-rate jellies, but that only removes half the problem. Now I have 60fps scenery with 1fps outlines and imposters, and the region’s still slowly lobotomizing itself with a hand-drill trying to cope with the load.

        Ah well. This is just one reason why I’d rather just sit in sandboxes with a few friends, pelting each other with stupid weapons, filling the entire region with pretty particle effects, hitting the grey goo fence with disturbing regularity and somehow still causing less lag than a handful of embarrassingly overweight fashionistas at a shopping event.

        Don’t worry, furries. I’m not about to hit Chonk with that bullshit in the middle of a busy period. At least not unless some tardburger just crashed the place again and there’s only the admins and a couple of hardened sandbox veterans there to observe the silliness.
