    so simple, make a good job as designer than you dont have problems with bloggers. if you have problems that they dont blog it, you are simple too bad.

    • Like Dragon said, it is literally free to do pretty high quality photos. No, you don’t have to buy photoshop. No, you don’t have to do a ton of edits. Black Dragon viewer even cuts out the need to buy your own poses.

      A list if you like:
      Gimp (and other programs) is free. Not photoshop level but free and workable
      Black Dragon viewer basically does 90% of the work for you as far as quality
      Pose creation included in the viewer
      Windlight creation included in the viewer (or you can do like a lot of others do and install free WLs some people have made and offer)

      These are all basically what you need to do a good photo. Granted, there is no options that gives you an eye for angles but if someone is doing photos, I’d hope they already have that. No money is required to do photos. None. At all. Zero dollars. Zero cents. And no freebies are required from designers. Just like with actual companies down the road from you, advertisements are usually paid for, sure. That doesn’t mean its a right that you get free stuff. And I’d wager that the thought process in having bloggers buy the items themselves is that it’ll cut down on these people who take a 3 second photo in firestorm and click “upload to flickr” because “Who cares I already got the free stuff so whatever” instead of taking any actual time like the creators do in their own ads. There are a lot of people who “blog” just for the free stuff. But then on the other hand, there are a lot of people who “blog” and appreciate being given items and make a pretty great photo with said items. But really, I’d say those are few and far between because of the thinking here. “Give me things for free! I’m taking photos of your stuff!”

      TL;DR You already have to spend $0.00 to take decent photos, just buy the items. It’s not that deep.

      • You’re right, for a designer or someone doing a photo, it takes time. I do them just for the fun of it. It’s sort of therapeutic spending hours making an in depth pose, finding lighting I like, finding angles and so on. But what you’re claiming with “if a designer is doing good work, he/she will have good Bloggers who also do good work” just isn’t how it works sadly. You do have plenty who love to do great photos for great creators they enjoy (because I don’t think anyone does ad blogging for designers they don’t like on some level) but on that same token, like I said, some do it for the free things, snap some flat pic with someone’s work they spent a lot of time on and click the “upload to flickr” button.

        That alone is a good reason for creators to decide to have bloggers buy items. If you enjoy the items enough to blog them, if the creator is good enough for you to say “Hey, I would like to blog for you”, why are they not good enough for you to compensate them for the things they spend time and effort on and instead required to give them to you for free with there being a good chance the “blog” post will be just that, throw on randomly with clipping and all, snap in firestorm, auto-upload to flickr?

        I don’t get the upset here. When people work for hours on products and there is a good chance of having that done, it’s not outrageous for people to want some sort of safety just in case. The clothing, accessories, skin, body, head, etc. None of these in my photos and photos of a lot of others are made personally. We buy them, we make a look we enjoy with our virtual Barbie and we want to make a photo we think is nice and unique. I didn’t get anything free (save for a makeup pack but that was a mix up and a VERY kind creator). I buy these things because the creator did good work, I thought they did good work and I purchased their good work. People are not entitled to have free things because they asked to do photos for a creator and the creator said yes. Bloggers put their name in the hat asking to be chosen. It’s very easy to simply move on to finding a creator with rules you agree with if you don’t like being told you have to buy the products yourself.

      • if you are a really good blogger, you have more stuff and you will not be able to wear this. and a lot of people will buy this because you wear it, so the creater makes money with you. what my point is, that i have the feeling that nobody appreciate the work from a blogger. and a blogger earns nothing but must also spend money. this is my point.

    • you cant work with those progams in the same way, there are lot of Options what you dont have and you Need lot of time to do the pose and that everything fits, even in black Dragon and bd Need a good Computer and so on, time is very important and skills. i speak About high Quality Bloggers. high Quality Designers appreciate the work of high Quality Bloggers, because they know that it takes lot of time and also Money (you Need often to buy something Special….).

    • Yes I agree with you, and most of the people in the comments. However from what I read it seems that some have no clue about blogging. So I would like to comment on the main points here.
      1. yes, you could say it costs real money to do high quality pictures. Ones that will have all the details and good lighting and such. Of course you can take pictures with a simple laptop, but sadly you just won’t get the same thing if the laptop is not good enough.
      2. programs do cost money (unless you get around and get yourself a free version which is also easy), flickr accounts cost. You can edit with free programs, but only the basics. If you want to make your picture more “professional”, you cannot just benefit from free softwares. (Nonetheless, the talent of the artist also counts, not just the software.)
      3. Of course it matters what platform you run your viewer on. A good computer can run Black Dragon with no problem on high settings, whilst a simple laptop won’t even be able to keep it up until everything rezes.
      4. and the most important – blogging for creators / stores. It is shitty when people just take stuff, and don’t blog / promote them. Therefore many stores have policies that are strickt when it comes to this issue, and it’s good. Myself as a blogger, I take it very seriously. I will never take stuff that i don’t or can’t blog. But there are people who think that “blogging” will get them free stuff, and they just do a half-ass job in return. In which case stores renew their bloggers (at least bigger ones).

        1.)I’d have to disagree since when someone decides to blog for a creator in SL, it is because they have been in SL to see said creator and have a PC or laptop, either or. That takes away using the pc as a reason blogging costs money.
        2.)Programs like Photoshop do, in fact, cost money. And while you’re right, the free programs are different and maybe not quite as good, it IS workable if someone takes the time to learn about the program and capabilities. It is absolutely possible (from my experience) to get a very crisp clean photo without using Photoshop specifically.
        3.)Correct. Black Dragon is extremely exhausting on a PC/laptop. While I chose Black Dragon as a good fix for needing heavy editing software and poses, I would expect that someone who decides to blog and APPLIES to be a blogger for a store has a system good enough to actually see the items they are wanting to blog (graphics wise). In which case, Black Dragon should be just fine if not a tiny bit laggy. That can be fixed by turning off deferred rendering while making poses, getting an angle and turning it back on when you’re ready to take the actual photo.
        4.)It is a shame that people act that way. It’s a sad. But I appreciate that you put in that effort. It doesn’t make sense to me for someone to go out of their way to actively ask to be a blogger just to be flaky about it. It seems like laziness with extra steps.

    FYI to the snowflakes, Verinne is what cultural appropriation looks like. Lifts something from Shinto with longstanding significance and drapes it around herself like it’s a bath towel. Also claims she has special privilege to use it that nobody else possesses. When native Japanese people are selling detailed and amazing kitsune tail and ear sets to anyone with the Lindens, she can’t claim a lock on them.

    • Verinne is a nasty human being. When The Epiphany was going to be partnered with the Crystal heart event two or so years ago she got mad because they wouldn’t allow her access to all the blogger boxes for free so she got Skyefaise, the other morally corrupt ethot to unpartner the event and unsponsor it because she did not want to pay for things she wanted for free. She has been causing drama for years, probably due to an over inflated ego and being an undesirable in real life.

Went to CC before and it was straight lag and nobody was roleplaying anything. They probably don’t have enough personality to do a beach rp anyways tho. The design’s nice tho but you’ll be bored to tears there. Woodcrest is another story tho. Half the students at Woodcrest are bot like alts. I never go there anymore. Bots and people who suck a roleplay everywhere

  19. #23 – This has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen posted on this website. It is a hairstyle, for crying out loud. One gender, race, ethnically, culture, or whatever else you want to use cannot own a hairstyle. If someone, regardless of skin colour, wants to have dreadlocks, they should be able to without some bored middle-aged woman pointing her sausage fingers at them, screaming oppression or cultural appropriation. If a white person wants to wear cornrows, they bloody well can. If we go this route, why does no one care when people have long and straight hair? Because it is stupid.

    Also, #BlackOutTuesday was not as well-received as you think it was. Many businesses owned by black people did not participate and urged others not to. Also, timezones exist. Tuesday for you could very well be Wednesday for someone in Japan. Their Tuesday is already gone, so how can they celebrate it?

  20. #46: Releasing items using BLM as a theme or platform generates profit for the designer who made it, regardless of it being free, or 100% donation.
    I some of them mean well, but some would be fully aware that jumping into any cause allows them a boost in profits and brand awareness.
    When someone sees your release, or visits the store to get that freebie there’s a high likelihood for residual or side purchases, it also makes people more aware of your brand every time you release a freebie.
    White people should not be profiting from this in any way or form, they should not be allowed to grow their business off the back of the movement.
    Think more carefully before supporting designers who have used this as a covert way to gain more viewers/followers/sales. It only benefits them and their business but hide it under the guise of a good cause.

    The silent designers are doing the right thing, and I hope they’re doing their part detached from their business personas.

Some people actually do care about the movement & do it for free to help raise money for charities to help the movement in the only way they know how to or can & you said “White people should not be profiting from this in any way or form”, so it’s ok for a black person to profit from it or another race?         All marketing is marketing. It may be helpful to the movement but it is also helpful to the designer in the way of brand awareness and profits.

    • On the flip side though. Anyone who does these freebies/fundraisers with there name attached is in essence aligning there brand with that cause. It could, at least in theory, have the reverse effect and garner them even less people buying because people who don’t support the movement they’re supporting may be loath to buy form that person in the future. When you align your business with a cause or ideal there is always some inherent risk to it that it may cause you a loss in money. So there’s two sides to the coin here.

Perhaps this is the same for many people. You are not privy of my activism, protesting for civil rights, and donating of real life money for a plethora of causes. You are not privy about the countless hours of *real life* community service that I give to my indigent community. So, I ask you to refrain from making any assumptions about me and how I spend my real life time.

    Thank you for “attempting” educating me about A Favela anonymously through SL secrets. Some dear friends made a wonderful sim that I really loved exploring. As did many people in SL from all the photographs and promotion. It was a unique and intriguing experience for me and, I must say, I truly enjoyed spending time there. My photographs do not take away from the strife that may be happening there. And, perhaps, even in the real A Favela there is some beauty to behold. I do not think this sim was meant to be a political statement. People create simulations in Second Life for exploration and visiting. I do not own this sim and I made no lindens from it. I’m sorry if the tone of my photos disturbed you. Yet, out of hundreds of photos made by many SL travelers, you choose to target me?

    I’m sorry that you have so much contempt and hate for me. It must be very difficult for you to follow my flickr and SL as closely as you do. I can only imagine the effort and time it takes for you to be consumed by someone like myself. If you truly had issues with me and my travel photos to A Favela, I wish you would have spoken to me virtually via direct message. I’m a reasonable person and love to engage in thoughtful discussions. I would have really enjoyed learning more about A Favela from a person who seems to be deeply connected to it. My Brazilian friends love this sim and we had many conversations that painted a different point of view. Most were joyful and fond recollections that tried to embody for them. I’m always open to talking and listening. And, maybe after our discussions we could have collaborated to show something you felt needed to be expressed on my virtual platform. And also for the record, my information goes way beyond the public social media narrative. You might be surprised. You say Absinthe has been “really kind to many people.” Probably. But she’s also been really unkind to many people, and apparently, that’s a side you haven’t seen, but others have. The mention of Autumn was made because that situation was also very unkind, and it has nothing to do with Autumn’s untimely passing. It was just another example of this woman’s character. I am neither pathetic or “stalkery.” Absinthe came here to the party herself and posted, I didn’t seek her out and I assure you that I wasn’t the person who made the original post, nor am I any of the other posters below with similar opinions or experiences. I wrote my opinion just as she did. Obviously you are a friend of hers since you seem to have all of this inside info about her situation and dealings with people. You are fortunate, then, that you are not someone she considers an enemy or useless to her, because she also has a major mean streak.

    • Things that happen in SL are pretty much real, it’s real people playing with real money there. It’s not just a videogame, it’s a 3d social platform. People who only texture full perm meshes don’t belong in events. Have you ever seen Ivey from Sn@tch complaining about that? Because she’s way better than you at it, and if anyone working on templates deserves it, it’s her. She doesn’t need it though, because she’s always been good at it, and she charges realistic prices based on the fact that her work isn’t original. If you’re charging $199L+ per color for template work, your delusional brand deserves to die in obscurity.

      While I agree a sim could be a good opportunity to show the dire situation of Brazilian favelas, it’s incredibly frustrating that this sim instead portrays something far from reality, an utopian favela should be the name maybe. It feels uncomfortably phony for a Brazilian like me and quite misleading for Non-Brazilian visitors on the issue. But you must know all that now since you did your research and educated yourself about the subject. Bottom line is: “A Favela” is nothing more than poverty tourism exploitation in Second Life.

  65. If anything I have watched the quality of some of TMD go from good to bad, to downright questionable. One being a very well known hair creator, who creates hair that looks like the equivalent of the saddest looking wigs in a charity shop box. Yet still has prominent store placement. Most know the products are terrible, yet its still in there. TMD are also one of the few that still holds “VIP” days. Anyone spending money is a damn VIP and people can shop over the ban lines regardless. Just open the damn store and less of the snobbery.
