On looking around at the sim, it’s probably the best layout they’ve had in like four rounds, and content wise there seems to be some cute stuff. I get that their event goes up and down in quality but this round has been better than usual. Not sure what you’re going on about tbh.

    Sorry We have all been so silent the past few days.
    This was intended to keep everyone as safe as possible, and not to keep anyone out of the loop.

    Several of our staff, myself included, have been victims of cyber crimes.
    This was a massive criminal attack that includes multiple people and crosses state and country lines.
    Our real lives have been hurt by this and at this point it is uncertain as to how much damage has been done.
    Due to ongoing federal cyber crime investigation, I cannot release any detailed information.
    None of us are aware as to why these attacks occurred and we are allowing local and federal agencies to handle the cases.
    If you have any information pertaining to this event, please contact your local authorities and report to Linden Labs.

    At this point, to protect all involved, I will be shutting Fox Den Enterprises indefinitely .
    Several of our staff will be leaving Second Life as well.
    Some of us have already fully deleted our accounts, Some are just logging off for an undetermined amount of time, and some will be staying.
    These were all personal choices based on their own comfort levels.
    The land is currently closed off to everyone.
    I will maintain the discord servers for the next week or so and then i will be shutting them down as well.
    I am sorry for any inconvenience this may be for anyone, but I have to do my best to keep you all safe.

    My goal in having a club was to make a peaceful and fun place for us to call our own.
    I enjoyed having time with you all and being able to provide a place for you all to call home.
    Each of you are wonderful and beautiful people and I am truly honored to have gotten to know you all.
    I wish nothing but the best for everyone.
    You all were so amazing and truly made FDE a wonderful place to own.
    I will hold onto the fond memories I have of each of you.

    @36 – It is 2020. Your complexity should not be higher than 75,000. Take off everything but the bare minimum and be a decent human being. People who to go to events in their entire inventory are the most cancerous people I know. More events should have this system, to be honest.     • re: 36, a lot of that is due to people refusing to update their look. 400,000 complexity is something that happens when someone is still wearing a bunch of flexiprims and sculpties. Prim-heavy bling jewellery is another culprit. I wish they could just let go and toss that old laggy stuff from 2009. I try to remember to put on full alpha when I go to events.

      • Thanks for the concern but my avi is full mesh and lower complexity than most people I see. Probably something close to 30k in Firestorm, I haven’t fired it up in months so I couldn’t tell you exactly. I’m just using a viewer that has a different ARC calculation (and it’s a decently popular one so I’m probably not the only person with this issue)

        However, much as I love mesh, it’s laggier than the ugly 2008 stuff because it has much more polys.

    • I’ve personally seen proof of Rezology having hair styles in their store that were uploaded by various sims creators years back. Unless they’re working under multiple completely unrelated accounts with no mention of SL… There’s at least some theft going on.

      As for complexity- ikr? I think the highest I’ve ever seen was 1.4 mil complexity at an event, and the person was complaining so much about lag lol

If your ARC is 100,000 and you’re wearing a human avatar, then you must be decked to the nines in old flexis or heavy prim items or wearing an extremely elaborate avatar with tons of jewelry, HUDs, and attachments. Most avatars are way under that or half that, that’s an extremely generous limit. Take off your scripty primmy RLV collar, that’s what 90% of script or ARC limit complaints seem to stem from.

    • It’s honestly the way Black Dragon in particular calculates ARC, looking at the screenshot, it’s what they’re using.
      Black Dragon calculates ARC and amount of textures you’re using and amount of triangles that make-up what you see of your avatar, which is honestly high for almost anyone on the grid, those are the things that actually impact performance apart from draw distance locally.
      All other viewers that uses Linden Labs calculations won’t have this issue often since LL’s calculator is more tame and kind of sugarcoats the complexity so it’s really not too bad.
      These objects that read calculations are being sent the data from the host viewer, so whatever complexity your viewer reports to as, that’s what is shown to be your complexity, so my only suggestion is to either not use Black Dragon for shopping, or just detach everything and throw on a full-body alpha.

      • If the people you are passing are still lagging you out jellied, it’s most likely because they are wearing many large textures which are either taxing your network or your memory. They would probably not trigger this message on Firestorm, and would lag you out all the same.

        To go a bit technical, the default implementation of ARC is in fact pretty bad at actually evaluating what is actually heavy in terms of rendering. The largest contributors of lag/low fps are heavy textures and high poly. ARC rates things like flexi, glow, and prims very heavily, while mesh is pardoned unless you have a ton of attachments. While I’m glad the former are being punished as they are an eyesore, mesh is generally much laggier than prims are, as any pre-mesh boomer can attest. Something like the Freya body has over 3x the polygons of the Hourglass but they have almost the same ARC. The Black Dragon ARC calculation is much more accurate, but it also has wildly different values, most people will reach the millions in cost.

        Anyway, I don’t really care about people seeing me in events or anything, I go in my normal outfit because I want to demo the clothes. And that was my point, I’m not going to that event anymore. I can’t be bothered.

    • I have a normal, mesh human avatar, and literally have to hit detach all to get under the limit. I’m on Black Dragon which calculates ARC differently; and even if I was somehow this 2008 flexi abomination, this is literally why jellydolls exist, learn to use them instead. Not gonna download a whole different viewer just to browse events where 90% of the clothing is trash either.

  47. Ack okay, so the Rezology secret. That Sims hair is by Newsea. If you look on Rezology’s mp, you’ll see they went by the name Newsea for a bit too. Just like Sintiklia and Pixicat and Stealthic, Rezology came from Sims to make stuff for SL. Rezology IS Newsea. They re-rigged their old stuff for SL, but also have been working on original hairs.

    But yeah, can’t tell Rezology to stop copying the Sims creator when they are the actual Sims creator themselves.

    • Like I said in one comment, there was a big thread about this on an old sim website and I’m trying to find it. A lot of creators from Mod The Sims and TSR came in and basically said yes, we agree. It makes sense that it’s actually THOSE people in SL too. I knew Stealthic and Sintiklia were the same cause of the name (duh on me). Of course back then I wasn’t on SL yet so I didn’t know. lol.

    Creators like money, long time ago I spent hours making all my products for every head out there. But the time I spent making stuff for less popular heads ended up costing me money, as it wasn’t time I spent making stuff that actually sells. Gave up, now support only the “big” 3. With BOM a lot of the non lipsticks can used for those other heads too. Alas, The 5 or 6 hours it took me to get every product set up for all the heads I knew of I could be on Photoshop making one or two new things that would sell very well for the other heads. If you want something supported you need to support creators with your money too or they will probably decide it’s just not worth their time.

    The breakdown of one product. A set of lipsticks 24 in a pack the sales I had for AK and Gaeg heads didn’t even make up for the upload costs. I like to price my stuff affordably. The Genus, Catwa and Lelutka versions made over 10k each. It was like that every time. Sold even less if anything for logo never sold anything for the slink heads… so that is how I personally decided what heads I support and which I don’t.

    • I think making stuff Omega and BOM would fix a lot of issues and be universal. I’m just hoping makers done abandon suppliers for BOM altogether.

      • You can’t just “make it” BOM and Omega. Lots of designers list the head worn in the ad for a reason—the texture is created on a specific head. A lipstick made for Catwa can be made BOM or put into an omega bud, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to look good on Lelutka or Genus.

      • That’s why you provide demos. The UV maps are all the same on human heads/bodies in SL- just because it looks “best” on one mesh doesn’t mean it won’t fit others. Just put out a demo, say it’s designed for whatever mesh and provide demos for people who use others to decide if they like it too. It’s just pasting an UUID into a notecard to make an applier for another mesh, and BOM layers are literally universal. It takes seconds max, not hours, to support all heads or bodies when it comes to texture layers.

      • The moment a head has HD maps you make products for that is no longer the case, try to apply a genus HD map to the SL UV mouth. It does not work. Neither will it work for Catwa, which has it’s own HD layer, or Lelutka, again it’s own layer. Personally I don’t bother making one size fits all, I will create products for the HD layers only as there I can create the detail I am and my customers are looking for. It’s just not the same. If I were making omega one size fits all on the SL UV layer that would hold true, but I make an extra template for each head’s HD layer and many other creators do to.

        If I were on my PC today I’d get here with a screenshot of a HD layer applied to SL UV if I feel like it I might do it later when I get home.

      • Really? Because you can use omega to apply the same thing to Genus and Catwa, so it must be the same basic template. While it’s true the edges of the lips might not line up with the skin or whatever, this is what the demos are for. I’m quite sure some things might look “bad” on other meshes. I’m personally not trying to buy stuff that isn’t made for my meshes, but apparently a lot of people are. It’s on the consumer to use the demo, and decide what they think looks good or bad themselves.

      • The Catwa HD Layer, The Genus HD layer and the Lelutka HD layer have different UV maps. They all can use SL UV but SL uv maps compared to the HD map is tiny and lacks detail. If you are using SL UV yes you CAN apply it to all heads that use SL UV for the lips. But if you are creating specifically for the HD Layer that no longer works. There is a reason Catwa added a HD layer that you wear as a separate layer. To allow for higher quality lip sticks.

      • Hahaha @ Ignorant, Catwa’s UV mapping is so warped around certain areas, even their own heads can’t wear the same skin and still look good. Why else did they get so butthurt when someone tried to make Catwa specific skins work on their mesh heads too? Because they know it’s specific to them. At least Lelutka and Genus heads are consistent and can actually work reasonably well with BOM. Seems like the only people who know this are designers who’ve tried.

    Taking as example a pair of shoes or whatever, their demo version has a texture with “demo” written all over it but they have mod permissions.

    Say copybotter n°1 gets a fat-pack of the shoes with the unwatermarked textures and stuff.
    You, as copybotter n°2, can extract said textures, reimport them for peanuts, and apply them with a few clicks to the demo version thanks to the mod permissions. You can visually get the “real” deal without having to reimport the mesh and without the implications that this would take (rigging, importation price and so on).

    I took the example of two people cooperating, but if the demo texture isn’t complex much one can remove the watermarks with some editing program and that would do the job too.

    Mod or No Mod does not stop the people who are going to steal from stealing. It doesn’t make it harder to steal by making it No Mod. It actually does the opposite because typically, if you make products people like and then make them no mod, copybotters hit your stuff harder. Take a look at any of the copybotting trade sites and it’s nearly almost always true.

    The only things you should be making no mod are things like scripts, HUD’s (but sometimes these shouldn’t be no mod depending on the item and the function of the HUD), and included notecards. There is never going to be a way to stop copybotters from getting what they want, and applying the false security blanket of “no mod” is pointless and drives off customers.

  65. It’s about design. I take pride in what I make and how I model and texture it. I don’t want to see people walking around with tinted colors and glowing shit or combined mesh then calling it my brand. Tinting or trying to change the texture of a thing with baked in textures it’s a mistake. Even adjusting the size manually for some objects can mess up the textures. The end user should receive a great experience without tinkering.
    Regarding the demos. Releasing demos with all the textures and a hud would be a mistake. It would absolutely be a copyboters dream. They will even go so far as removing the text from the textures. Stealing mesh off people won’t get them all the colors and a hud.

They’ve paid you for it and now they want to enjoy it. Trying to thwart that on principle alone is petty. I’ve never tried to stop customers from enjoying my products for a reason like that and most seem to really appreciate that and even come up with new and interesting ways to use what I’ve offered them. This is an insecurity speaking, and to romanticize it as anything else is disingenuous.

    On a platform like SL where we can do and create almost anything, finding ways to thwart that that are rooted in shallow reasoning is depressing. Like you said, not every shade of pink should be the same, but you’re asking your customers to do exactly that: Only wear the shade of pink you choose and look the same if they want to enjoy your work (and before we get stuck on the topic of tinting again, that’s only a facet of editing, but it’s the one that was referenced).
