    • Well Kes, the 2 features you decided to add are sort of canceling one another. Actually the “new comment highlight” feature just works for new conversations (which are very easy to detect anyway) while sub-comments, which are where the highlight would really be useful, are hidden and need to be expanded so there’s no way for them to be highlighted. When they get expanded, the highlight seems not to work, so as it is the feature is useless for the most part.
      Thank you for granting what we asked for. I for one don’t like the hiding feature and would like at least an option preventing it to work. This would probably make the highlight to work again but I’m not sure.
      Anyhow if you decide to keep the replies compressed, either another solution should be found to detect changes, or you can take away the present highlight feature and we’ll do just fine the same way we did for the last year or so.

      • A button that functions as both would be ideal. Click it once, it expands all comments, click it again, it hides them all. I would not mind a ‘show new comments’ button, too, that showed only things posted since you last visited.

        Also, when you hit reply to a comment, it should automatically add their name. People seem to lazy to add a simple @ and makes following discussion on who is attacking who hard.

      • @alexander, in order to do that I have to require you all log in to comment. It’s how the plugin is setup for that. And you can edit, but for 15 minutes only.

      Genus had a claim filed against them so they had to remove all their heads from public access. Catwa was accused of being the one who filled the claim but they have put out a statement that they aren’t responsible. The reason people jumped to Catwa because they’d filed false DMCA claims in the past against head makers.

      • I have to admit, I was one of those people with a need for name flare. But i didn’t go all crazy on it. One time I did upside down letters just to mess with people for a few days, way back when display names started. It was fun to walk into a place that had a host who couldn’t see my legacy name and couldn’t quite understand my display name even though it is a simple and very common female name lol.

        I don’t really see the point in a name change, but then again i chose a very normal name lol. I was extremely non-creative back then. I suppose it makes sense for someone who may have a poorly chosen or immature name that no one can take seriously lol.

      • How is it shady? The terms are 100% clear and simple, spelled out in advance. Are you calling it “shady” because you think it costs too much and you can’t afford it? Because that’s not what “shady” means. That means that some things are being kept hidden, that you aren’t being told all the consequences of your decision before you make it. That is not the case here.

        Also, choosing from a list of names that are available for the first name you choose has always been how having a last name in SL works. Sorry you weren’t around for that, but those of us that were have no problem with this.

      • Well let’s put it another way. LL is a company and they still need to make profits on top of keeping the lights running. With the way the economy had been going on the US (current situation aside), they have to find other ways to keep turning profit without chasing off the user base (which isn’t as big as it used to be). Their best ways to do this is through premium subscriptions, tier costs, and people buying L.

        The latter is tricky because messing with a currency an economy relies on can go pear-shaped fast. The other two are safer options and they did alter them. They also attempted to stuff more features into premium and less into free accounts, but that had horrible backlash from the community.

        A happy compromise is to pick something optional like the name changes and saddle it with a price tag. They knew it was in demand so it was something people would pay for. Names are also very personal, so the likelihood of people changing it often is small. 40 bucks makes sense in that respect with the added temptation that they will rotate names and retire some of them. These are also brand new names so even older users might be interested. It’s a painless way to encourage premium use and gather profit without putting stress on the users.

        Look at it like buying a premium game skin for many online games. Heck, other online games charge to change names as well. I feel the 40 dollar pricetag was a bit higher than what I expected myself, but that means I’m going to be that much more selective about the choice if I do it at all.

      • Blizzard, the most money hungry company alive, only has their name change at $25, LL’s price is usurious what with having to have premium AND $40. Plus their last name choices SUCK! Covfefe? Really? How immature is that.

      • Blizzard is a prime example of Pocket’s explanation. The only difference here though, is that Blizzard CAN go lower on their price point for a name change because they have a lot of other services and options to charge for. Firstly, you’re pretty much forced into subscription, unlike SL where it’s absolutely optional and you can be on it for hundreds of hours, year over year without paying a single dime (though you probably won’t look very pretty lol). That’s in addition to paying for the xpacs which are inevitable if you want to really progress and not be bored. Name, race, faction, appearance, realm changes… these all cost $15-30 each and I know people who have happily shelled it out numerous times (myself included). Plus all pretty mounts and pets. Loads of real-world merch, and none of that comes cheap. LL doesn’t have any of those. So they need to put a price tag where ever they can. People will pay it because they want to and because they can afford to, or they will make whatever personal sacrifice to afford it lol. Hell, some people actually make good money in SL that they can just convert back to real currency in order to cover it. 40 USD is only about 10k lindens and I’ve seen people make that in merely 2 hours of DJ’ing, singing, or stripping/escorting. It’s 100% not shady, and it’s 100% optional. Personally, I feel like anyone barking over it so loudly must have a bummer of a name that you can’t afford to change but want to lol. You should get an attachable tipjar to wear as you wander sim to sim, and then maybe in a short while you will have enough to get that name job you’ve always wants 🙂

      • Blizzard also sells other things that go hand in hand with that lower fee. Again it’s an example of what the model of “product” they’re offering is. A name change is a non-necessary cosmetic “add-on” that doesn’t hinder anyone else’s experience by existing, thus monetizing it is really benign. Besides, Blizzard does far worse than LL in terms of trying to screw their player base, so maybe they can afford to charge only 25 bucks.

        While I agree that Covfefe was an awful choice, they are rotating the choices out of the user-submitted names being used. Maybe something better will be there next round.

        And yes, Blizz has a lot more on “offer”, RL merch as well but yet again, those things are OPTIONAL! Do u HAVE to have a pretty mount? Pets? All visuals…nothing tangible. Same as SL. Nothing tangible. And everything optional. Sure you have to sub, so that’s what…15/month if u pay monthly + name change, that’s still less then what LL is charging.

        And to the person above Pocket, so you’re saying that WoW nerds don’t spend HUNDREDS! of hours on WoW? At this point in how long it’s been alive, THOUSANDS of hours. Lol…right….and you can be pretty there just by doing the work. On SL if you have no skills, you HAVE to buy Lindens to be pretty. Pay to win. >.<

The point is that the pricing is bad. And a cash grab. If you're already paying premium, you should get your first name change for free. Make it be a part of what being premium means.         Your point of a WoW sub vs getting a name change is a little flawed, however. You and I already pay premium for long terms in SL. However, the average user who doesn’t and -only- wants the name change and none of the other benefits of premium (you forgot TP priority for events, and group limits. I’m not sure if those are worthwhile to you, but I’ve found them fairly useful) can pay for only one month of premium+name change fee. It comes out at about 50 bucks roughly iirc. Now that’s a one time fee. A WoW subscription must be maintained in order to use rudimentary features of the client which are locked behind the paywall. That subscription fee is a reliable source of income for Blizzard from players. The advantages for SL premium are optional and not needed for a “full” experience and players are equipped well enough with the free options to not make premium the same type of income for LL.

        Now should they have made first name changes free the first time or a perk of buying a year’s worth of premium? Potentially. And they may or may not adjust that model based on consumer feedback. But let’s not be disingenuous and say an indefinitely required subscription is a somehow cheaper in comparison to a 50 dollar one time optional charge for an aesthetic perk.

      • A lot of things have to happen on the servers when you change your Display Name, for people that were around when they were first introduced you didn’t have to wait 2 weeks to change it, this meant you had people changing their display names every 5 minutes, not even kidding, from that abuse LL put a 2 week wait. Even today you still have people that every 2 weeks change their names into some other stupid shit, and lets not forget the passionate for ever lovers that bitch and moan when they have to wait X days still to get the name of their “stupid ex’s” off their profile… yes that’s how long eternal love lasts in SL.

        Same thing with using RLV to change your group title and make it “animated” again, a lot of stuff needs to happen on the servers, and that is why LL cut this ability since people were abusing the system to make something pretty.

        Usernames are no exception, and LL does NOT want people changing their Usernames all the time, the fee is not even a matter of turning profit, it’s a way of saying “you better be damn sure and you better not come back in 2 weeks to change it again” and that is why it’s “so high” but is it really? 10,000L$ that’s a mesh head and body, most people that would even be interested in changing their name likely have more than a set of those, so is it really so unreasonable to ask for 10,000L$? I honestly thought it would be more when LL started talking about a fee for it.

        Also, this whole Blizzard vs LL I just have to laugh, when it comes to profit and cash flow you are talking about Apple vs the beggar in front of McDonald’s.
        Blizzard can comfortably offer that service for about half the price, now I’m not intimately familiar with their system, but, if I had to guess I would say they aren’t changing any usernames, just the character names i.e. the display names of the characters?
        And like it was already mentioned, free accounts on SL are a huge slice of the population, they literally cost LL money to maintain, I’m willing to bet LL only turns a profit on 10% of the accounts (or less) on SL, and those 10% have to pay for everyone else to have a free avatar, that is why LL was trying to cut down on things like total groups for free accounts, because yes that puts stress on the servers and if these are free accounts that are only costing the company money, you outta be amazingly entitled to complain about it and demand to be catered at zero cost.

        Regarding the limitations of the name picks, as it was mentioned before, even in the old days you got to type in your first name and pick from a list for your last name, nothing new here, this is more than likely made to prevent spoofing accounts making names similar to big name creators and then try to scam people, as they do already with display names, imagine if they had actual usernames…

Correct me if I’m wrong on this but, as far as I have heard and from what I have known about the DMCA process, I thought it was fairly quick that items were taken down when you received the notice. I have seen creators get DMCA’s in the past, watched as items were taken down not long after that, within 24 hours in fact, and only went back up if it was resolved or if they counter-filed. Are they allowed more time than that? Does the poster have any receipts to back up what they are claiming? How much time is really given, after a DMCA has been received? (I’m actually curious about this)

    • You are correct. LL sanctions the person the DCMA is filed against as soon as the claim is filed. There is no “response time” before the items get pulled, the response time is after the store shuts down.

    • you are 100% correct when a DMCA is filed it is removed immediately until a counter claim is done. Once you receive the DMCA from LL you have to stop sales then and there you dont have the ability to just so ohhh ill do it after a sale. i would like to see the posters proof as well.
