You guys aren’t entitled to sales, and I can pretty safely say that if you can’t afford a catwa head without a sale during a time that most people are out of work and struggling to make ends meet then you should probably not put your money into fucking secondlife. Buy some groceries and stop complaining, mesh heads are not a inalienable right.

    • Heh, had a “discussion” with someone on SL about it being something that’s a “need” as some people are [fit whatever in here] that they can’t do or “get” irl. And having sales was one of those “needs” to “help” people out in the current dire circumstances. I just had to shake my head, like what? SL is definitely not a necessity, no matter what. The priorities of some people are terribly skewed.

  17. @43: Did they change their body appliers? I got them fairly recently for an alt and did not see any lack of details. Also which body was it? It looks like Gianni but cannot be sure, however same I use. Their newer skins to me have more detail head wise but never paid attention to body and I am anal so I assume I just had older ones. But yeah, it looks like a blush on your pelvis and legs in your pictures.

    @11: Catwa is not best at managing her business or marketing or even creating. But at least they are consistent on the ‘no sales’ thing. I am not sure if I would recommend a sale on older head models as pre-bento ones were horrid resource wise. Also since you mention current events, an approach of no sales is reasonable as creators who had other jobs might have lost them or have them on hold thus digital ones can become their only income.

  19. 23. Can confirm the last 3 points of this one. She’s always been kind of a shady creator anyway, but she did get busted by Fantasy Faire staff for trying to crowdfund her sponsor fees this round (which goes to sim fees/RFL charity), thus minimizing her total cost and maximizing profit.

    She regularly talks trash about other creators and “friends”, and if you aren’t blindly supporting her, then she turns everyone else in their group on you to kick you out of her hugbox.

    She’s also practiced greed in the past by charging large fees for unavailable appliers for her skins through an “order form” customers are supposed to request through. Her excuse was that she’s being paid for “extra work” to create appliers, but once she’s made them, she doesn’t sell or include them with her products. Instead, she pretends they never happened and the next person to ask has to pay the “commission” price to get that same applier. Not sure if she’s still practicing this, haven’t bought from her in years.

    • She doesn’t actually make her product. She pays [and sometimes doesn’t] someone to copy and plagiarize artists off websites like DeviantArt and give it to her full perm so she can change the colors of the texture.

      She at times goes through mesh makers more often than she changes her undies because she is also pretty shady with them and treats them like garbage.

      • People around her that are not getting their dick sucked off (sometimes literally according to her own boasts stated on voice in SL and in other voice apps) know she only claimed to be sick to try and get more hand-outs, favors, and sympathy. She was never truly ill, all of it was made up.

        As for that baby, though there is that always that likelihood that might be the result of one of the real life men she bragged about “fucking her out of mind” while cheating on her live in boyfriend. No one can be sure, but the baby also has a high probability of being fictitious too.

    • Considering making an applier takes about 20 seconds when you already own a texture, the whole “extra work” thing is fucking ridiculous.

    • So…I used to mesh for this creator. To clarify, I have my own store as well and when I was meshing for her I was still getting the ball rolling. I was told, pretty directly, that I should just give up on my own pursuits and mesh for Plastik full time because I would never be good enough to make it without her. I meshed for her from Nov 2018 to Apr-May of 2019 and single-handedly created all of her clothing meshes during that time with another very talented artist manning the accessory and prop/furniture dept.

      During our “partnership”, as she liked to call it when it came to sharing event fees, my actual work partner and I did our absolute best to reach into the toilet, with our bare hands to recover this out-dated and expiring brand because we both saw potential if we could just convince her to update her overall style as well as trim down and stay consistent with an actual color palette. We also became very insistent that she create more cohesive gacha prize line ups but most times refused and instead gutted our mesh work to pad out her prize pool to ridiculous proportions. Believe me. We tried our best.

      The worst part was the way she obsessively insisted we participate in EVERY event with a full line up of brand new items on sometimes just days notice. 10-15+ hours would go into projects that would net us less than 2,000 L in profit.

      Yes, you are reading that right. Less than 2k. Lindens. For custom work, made to order, worth hundreds of dollars. All in the name of her insatiable fucking ego.

      So let’s break this down. Partner and I did ALL of the mesh work, from scratch, pretty equally. Partner did all of the bakes and renders. I did all of the rigging. Plastik did…recolors. And made ads. Yet still insisted on taking the bulk of the payout, every time. When confronted we were met with “I’m the brand owner, all of them pay mesh artists this much” Yea, no, not for fucking long they don’t. “I have a kid to feed now.” So do I, so pull your damn weight. “You should feel lucky to even get what you do, I would.” among other tired numbers.

      All of this resulted in my partner and I putting pressure on Plastik with new terms. There is a fee if you don’t give us at least 2 weeks notice, it will be paid up front and in cash. Profit will be split 3 ways evenly, and believe me, we were throwing her a bone on that one. The gacha prize pools needed to be considerably smaller, no more fucking forehead jewels and don’t strip down our work to create some piece-meal monstrosity. Get your color palettes together, literally no one wants 40 fucking shades of olive, it is not adding value to our shit.

      God. Olive. What a fucking ride. Do any of you remember that cute little magical girl/witch number? I can’t remember what event that was in but my partner and I spent at least 40 hours on that mesh. It was the first project we had really insisted be designed with very minimal references that we picked ourselves after Plastik got us in hot water with yet another real world creator she copied. And keep in mind, we had to show her step by step images so she could make changes but she NEVER gave us previews of her work or allowed us any input, not graciously anyway, god forbid. WELL. You all never had to see the original textures because they were all fucking earth tones on a celestial themed ensemble. Yea, that’s right, the Plastik special. Fucking. Olive. Up until this point my partner had been pretty quiet, softly smoldering at the injustice of our freelancing turned highway robbery…well. She fuckin snapped. Demanded Plastik redo all of the recolors, because frankly, calling them “textures” is a little generous and chick doesn’t even know how to correctly use photoshop. All in all, Plastik wasn’t really involved in that event or that item when you consider partner and I did all of the mesh, rigging and rendering. It was the highest selling event we’d had all year.

      In any case, now you know why the quality has decreased so dramatically.

      To be honest, my partner and I both tried really hard to make things work, as friends and as co-workers but she just could not let go of her ego. She tried to either pit my partner and I against each other or split us up, multiple times but we stuck to our guns. We were called “fair weather friends” when we couldn’t afford to keep pumping life into her dying brand. She threatened us with a fake lawyer when we stood up to her. We both put tools and resources into her hands any time she complained or gave excuses for her own short-comings. In the end, in full Plastik fashion, partner and I were told that we were no longer needed because her boyfriend got a better job “but oh wait not yet I still need you for two more events”. When asked why we were being let go Plastik informed us that we were not performing up to her standards and I got a little rowdy; enter bullshit McCuck Boyfriend, here to settle the out-of-line little sweat shop workers. Yea well…I told him his girlfriend was a cunt and fraud and his balls got 2 sizes smaller.

      Oh well.

      • Oh yea, it’s super crazy and generally as 3D artist my partner and I do our best to keep assets consistently low-mid poly, especially in SL’s hobbled together game engine but Plastik always insisted we mesh in ALL of the details and carry her products because she did not know how to do her job. So believe me, we feel you.

        Put it this way, I still mesh for events like Epiphany under a friends’ brand and their texture work is *chef’s kiss* fantastic. I make all of the base models and do all of the rigging and fitting to various bodies but they texture everything so professionally, with an actual industry pipeline. They sculpt in details and bake them down and create renders that should make Plastik fucking weep. AND I get the 50% I earn doing half of the work vs. the 35-40% I got from Plastik for doing like 80% of the work.

      • I wish I could get the items from the original people like yourself who made the items and not through her tainted and worthless brand or with her name on it.

        Surprisingly Fantasy Fair still let her sponsor a sim. Especially after that blatant fact she was openly begging her customers to donate for her to cover the cost became widely known.

        I deleted everything with the Plastik name on it in my inventory and will not buy anything again under any other brand name she has anything to do with.

        Vaelienn is a vapid, self obsessed, dishonest dumpster fire of greed surrounded by an endless void of morality. She couldn’t produce even a spark of creativity herself if it was made out of 1,000 kilograms of matches in a pile right in front of her and someone handed her a flamethrower. The real artists and creators are the people she uses and abuses.

        I would prefer to support the real creators, not shitbags like Vaelienn.

I’ve been trying to tell creator contacts about this sort of thing but now this is a hard story I can link to them. I know it’s probably not in your best interest to advertise your store or the ones you work with on here, but I hope somehow you get my business even without me knowing. You sound like a great creator.

        @Boycott: I’m agreeing with you wholeheartedly. I hope that we can communicate to these people we would rather give them money directly. For example Vae’s skins at Fantasy Faire are boring on their own. The ears she includes are barely textured (the skin on them barely had shading) except for the markings on them. The markings on the skin and ears are work done by []Trap[] owned by Selos Dae. Selos is incredibly talented and Vae is riding off that. I’ve talked to a lot of people who have bought her skins only for Selos’ markings (which come in seperate Omega appliers and system layers).

        If Selos ever sees this, Vae is using you like she’s used so many others. Sell your talent for you. It’s in demand and you should reap all the benefit.

  22. 11. I, too, feel your pain. Whenever I play Monopoly in RL with my friends, I throw a tantrum because I can’t buy properties and hotels on sale. It solves nothing, but that doesn’t stop me from pitching a fit like a child because I feel so entitled to saving a few imaginary bucks for something that I feel I deserve. But I know that I’m right and I deserve a sale- my friends don’t invite me to play Monopoly anymore because they know I’m right too.

    • I absolutely agree that this bitching about sales they feel are “obviously” what the creator should be doing is stupid, but it’s not really monopoly. People upload real money to this game. Some people upload hundreds of dollars a month (to keep land and shop a lot). There is a real difference between SL and some board game, and that IS part of why some people feel so entitled. This post is just a case of something thinking they know more about Second Life business than they do. It’s absolutely true that if you sell anything as expensive as a head, people are going to bitch when it goes on sale, and people are NOT as willing to pay full price, if they know there will be a sale at some point. So you gain sales during your sale, but lose some on your initial release. Catwa has a business model that’s working, people should quit thinking they know how to fix what’s “broke” when it ain’t broke.

It also bothers me that she hasn’t updated the way she showcases her skins at all, like when you demo her skins I want to be able to demo all the skintones and she only has like 4 or 5 in the demo. I really think she needs to start updating her business practice and go the route that most skin designers are and using a hud to demo all the skintones. This was all for 7 deadly skins.

I do not play any alts and never have, and I can’t for the life of me figure out what is the point of having a bunch of extra, cheap looking avis unless you’re some kinda dishonest psycho. I can see having as many avis as you would need to test any animations you create, or something like that, but beyond that I am baffled. Why not just rp multiple characters on one account where you have all your pretty things? Anyone wanna offer some insight here?

      • Dishonest psycho for the win! They will say for “role-play purposes” but really mean slinking around on whatever bf/gf they are on at the moment.

      • I can’t speak to everyone’s experiences, but from what I’ve seen, some sims limit the number of characters you can have per account. (I’ve seen as low as 1 to 2 all the way up to no restriction). Some store/sim owners do it so they can rp without being bothered with business (sort of a way to forcefully disconnect so they can relax). I’ve seen some people that like to rp different gendered characters and make accounts for those as well. Some people do it to declutter their inventory (where they keep all rp-related stuff exclusive to another account).

        For non-rp reasons, some have alts from back in the day when it was beneficial to do so for lucky board flipping purposes. And really, no one bothered to make those look nice beyond freebies.

      • So maybe 1 or 2 alts is reasonable, especially for business owners (although they could also just learn to say no and tell people to fuck off when they need space… valuable lesson, life changing), but I think if someone tried to be controlling to the point they required multiple avis for multiple characters their rp sim would likely be no fun. That still doesn’t explain people who sound like they have a fucking army of alts, though. There’s no reason to go anything beyond default starter avi if they’re for “flipping lucky boards” or some benign purpose that doesn’t require any interaction with others; it’s more considerate even, because they’d be lower rendering cost/lag. In fact, those “alts” should just be an invisible alpha phantom, if the lag around lucky boards is anything like it used to be. Getting excited to mesh them out implies other purposes.

      • Truthfully I don’t think the old lag issue crops up anymore since not a lot of stores do lucky boards they away they used to since traffic is calculated differently now. I think the only time in my own recent memory I’ve seen people using alts for something like this was when Fallen Gods does their fortune teller machine.

        Even so, I still have all my old alts I used for that. I would get them freebies sometimes for kicks because the old starter avatars were awful and it was free, so why not? Though I wouldn’t ever pay to update them to mesh. I’d go to the new starter avatars before that.

        As for limiting characters on sims making it no fun, you’re absolutely right. The few times I’ve run into hard limits like that, the sims either died out or had to change the rule.

        And from the store side of SL, sometimes people don’t accept when you set boundaries and it becomes more hassle to keep having to deal with it. I mean, I agree with you in theory, but eventually you get tired of dealing with people who either don’t read or don’t care and rely on entitlement. Then there’s all the potential for drama because someone gets butthurt. Not to mention the people who can’t seperate RP personas from the people who play them. I’ve been party to some idiot putting someone’s store on blast because the owner’s RP character was mean to them ICly.

        RL retail is full of morons, SL retail is no different unfortunately. Lol

    • Never tried 7 Deadly Skins, but I have a bunch of Mila skins, and I always end up with different looks each time. It depends on what you do with your shape, makeup, brows, eyes, etc… Guess it’s all in the eyes of the beholder.

      • Same, I have couple of skins from MILA for different heads and they are pretty great for the price. Also the number of body options… Some stores actually charge people for different body styles and MILA doesn’t. Haters gonna hate, I guess.
