But if I go to see a friend DJing and all the “host” has done is log into a tip jar and put on their dance hud, what have they actually done for 2 hours, that deserves tipping?

The staff, management, etc. Nothing was organized, they keep changing fonts/logos, and not only that but the Owners at the time are two-faced. Rhoxy club literally would go around asking different girls from clubs to pretty much leave their current/the one they quit/got fired from to work for them. Not worth the hassle OR drama.

They couldn’t figure out what style they wanted, changed it half way through during opening (Which I get trying to find a ‘style’ you want. But you are now open and technically established now.     • tbh it’s only one of a handful of clubs on sl that is super active. addiction, bishes, monarchy, impact, VU all have 1-5 dancers at any given time. Lab has lost so much of their popular girls but still manages a fair amount of girls on stage during morning or afternoon sl times. the rhoxy is definitely the most active club at the moment which is why its name is plastered on sl secrets this week.

Labyrinth is the new upcoming club, as a client I occasionally pop around at these clubs and Labyrinth employees are always having fun on stage and catering to their clients without being money hungry. I get really good vibes from Labyrinth and their employees as well as management team. The Rhoxy offers low grade girls that have bare to no training at all. I requested a simple service and the girl acted as if she was confused she didn’t even know how to operate the cuddles in the chair. I paid her 1k for cuddles and she began moaning and trying to voice fuck me in a private call. Real professional for a brand new club. Not to mention the girls are very money hungry I have never had a decent conversation there with ANY of the girls. Addiction is not bad at all they do have some drama surrounding the club but that will pass if the owners stop acting like bitches.

They force their girls to change their shapes and buy training packages. Id say if you have any interest in good entertainment, try Bishes or Vivid.   19. This whole issue/trouble/whatever you want to call it, really has been eye opening. It has shown some seriously ugly personalities, with this whole fiasco. I have seen the so-called “established” bloggers and some blog managers, showing a genuine lack of understanding and empathy towards those who are not pro members on the site. It’s been really interesting, to say the least. The general attitude is, you should be willing to pay for your hobby, unable to grasp that not everyone is in a country that has a great economy, that will allow for that. Then there is the fact that the rate you see for the American’s is NOT the rate you see in other countries. It’s higher btw, for those who are not aware of that fact.

    As for what caused the largest portion of the panic, it possibly was due to different Flickr staff, saying different things, some of it was not even based on their own rules. There was one staff member that was claiming that no matter how many clicks it takes, regardless if it wasn’t even on your blog, if they locate a cart or price page or something that they can deem as commercial, eventually, they would deem you as being commercial. I think that was the one that was throwing quite a few people into the real tailspin.

    What has me laughing about this whole thing is, it’s Smugmug who owns this site now, who has stated that they are financially running into large issues, hence the reason they are doing what they are doing. Flickr has always hemorrhaged money. It’s the reason it was sold, originally. It doesn’t make any money and I personally think that Smugmug bought it because it was their biggest competitor, for years. They now have the full client base at Flickr, at their finger tips, and what’s to stop them from closing Flickr down, and porting the premium members to their main site? Their main site, which actually makes them money, in case no one realized that. It does feel like that is where Flickr is now heading, which is why I won’t be renewing my own membership, when it comes up in a month. To my knowledge, their main site only allows for RL photography or graphics, no gaming platforms are there, that I am aware of, so for those SL “elitist” bloggers with the pro memberships, you’re going to be SOL if Flickr closes it’s doors and your membership is still going, since I don’t believe you will be allowed to move over with the “real” photographers.

Furthermore, been with Flickr from the beginning and it had not been a website made for profit which later changed when they attracted more crowds due to costs rising. However, they did not run into issues until they sold their business over to Yahoo which ran it into the ground as the mother company had problems itself. Meanwhile SmugMug is …. never mentioned and unknown in professional photography or digital art circles as most use different portals to sell and have their own websites.

      My point is – I can afford Flickr Pro but I would consider that stupid to buy because 1) I have an unlimited storage server for the cost of what they want for a month … only that this is my fee FOR A YEAR (so yep – US prices seem more agreeable on the surface wheras UK pays more), 2) I can always move my photos and archive them on other social media with links to full resolution/size leading to my own server, 3) SmugMug … is awfully rude to their consumer base – be it paying or potential clients. 4) they messed up legally big time. Their former price for pro supposedly had been a discount yet no one known there had been a ‘discount’ but they doubled peoples’ prices … without a note. Maybe that supposed discount appeared to someone somewhere but as all others, I seen the lower price as full price.

      I think we all miss pre-yahoo flickr and probably one day it will be remade by someone else but until then I’d be wherever most people are and for now it is still Flickr. Hobby wise. I thought to put for profit photos there but then they changed owners and rules and I mehed out immediately.

    I do not earn much in Second Life. I write for a magazine and a blog, but I do make more than the price of Flickr. I pay for Pro because I send many Flickr mails to SL people for my writing and the free account limits the ability to mail people. It is the cost to do the work.

    Besides, it is not much. It’s 1800 lindens. That is not a lot. It’s the price of a coffee and a donut.

A store called Naughty Designs charged $L5000 per skin per face makeup/tattoo/scar etc. before appliers existed. At the same time, other content creators were creating furniture, jewelry, and hair with Second Life’s built-in prims and sold at the cost similar to now at about L$200-300. Similarly, all clothes were painted on, or what we now know as “baked on mesh” and cost similarly. As the years past, the prices of things in Second Life have stayed close to the same. Skins cost less now, some if not most charging around L$700-800 now.

    As for retexturing clothes at events… I completely agree. As a fan of a good ole fashion t-shirt, I would re-buy mesh of a good fitting mesh tee if the creator had released new textures I like.

    Would I pay L$1000 for a Sweater instead of a skin? Heck yes. If the creator frustratingly put the design I want in the Fatpack Exclusive. Pay more than L$1000. Girl, bye.

    #36 Skins are expensive because good skins, realistic ones that aren’t just photographs badly ripped onto a skin template with shitty smeared nose holes (looking at you Not Found, your whole store is garbage, do you think we can’t see the eyelashes on there? lol) are probably the hardest thing to make, texture wise. Making meshes is definitely hard, I’m not saying it’s not, but if you put a shitty texture on that mesh, that mesh is worthless. Meanwhile, better textures on even full perm meshes will sell just fine. People (mostly) don’t change skins the way they do clothes, so comparing a skin to a single color sweater is just fallacious, unless they’re gonna wear that sweater every day for a few months. If that’s the market you want, make men’s clothes LOL

      Anyway on topic of #36. There are a few factors at play here. First is obviously supply and demand, the market is saturated with clothing, as compared to “skins”. Other things to take into consideration is the fact how much use you get from a single skin vs a clothing piece etc. These are all the business and market and logistics sides of it. However from a creator and production side i see your point. Creating a mesh, texturing it, then rigging it for multiple bodies is significantly more hours spent than creating a skin. Some can argue that creating a human skin requires more artistic and technical knowledge than say making a sweater, it’s hard to argue an opinion because there are so many factors. However if we are talking about maximum quality of creating a skin texture for a realistic face, vs modeling texturing and rigging a realistic sweater, the sweater requires significantly more technical and artistic skillsets. Now yes the sweaters you see on sl are mostly basic, folds are random and unrealistic, no one pays attention to fabric type, how the fabric type would affect folds, taking int account form, shape, effect of gravity etc so the average sweater you see on sl is not that impressive nor does it require much skill to make. However the same can be said about skins on SL, they are terrible when compared to what a skin texture should look like. Everyone on sl looks like a barbie, it is just as bad in comparison to the quality of sweaters on SL.

      High quality sweater in production us usually 3-4 days for highpoly, 1 day for lowpoly and UVs, 1 day for textures. Rigging 1-2 days.
      High quality realistic human bust 5 -6 days for highpoly, 2 days for lowpoly and UVs, 1 day for textures.

      So as you can see the number of hours spent making a skin is significantly lower than a sweater. So make what you will of it.

I was also explaining how regardless of difficulty level one assumes, making a face texture is a 1-2 day work day workload at best where a sweater is 7-8 days+.

        You should consider reading things slower and perhaps 2-3 times over to actually comprehend and understand them before responding to them so you can be less ignorant with your responses. (pun completely intended)

        As an attentive Sl customer and a former mesh creator, even if only outside SL, I need to say that I DO CARE to be enlightened about creators that create their stuff be it clothes, furniture, skins or etc from scratch and those that actually try to get way by trying to bypass the system in order to get lindens and credits at the expense of the others’ ideias or work.

        Well, NO! I DO personally CARE about to whom I give my money to! Yes, the same money that pays creators the inworld expenses and even in same cases their RL weekly/monthly wages. I care to whom I buy stuff from, and if I am being cheated or not, once I actually understand how time consuming the creative mesh process can be which makes that a “true creator” builds less in a month and actually may have to charge more so that he/her can continue to keep going on.
        AF is one of the stores I like in SL but not even by far the only one. To people that say “one of the grid’s most high profile designers who isn’t going to suffer a penny because of some petty online drama” oh yes they will have consequences, starting by loosing my money and eventually the money of others that care.
        I respect all genuine creators and a good work when I see it. Keep in mind here are no irreplaceable creators or brands in SL. If AF would close doors today in sl or any other big brand, we costumers would still have at least 100 other great creators going on with great mesh. No one is irreplaceable inside or outside sl. I would be very disappointed if what was said about AF that it remeshes, decimates, and changes the mesh and UVs for it to be totally different. I know this is something possible to be done, and if this is true my respected and lindens for this brand are over.
        @ a real designer and all honest creators on the grid: do continue to expose this kind of cheating once for some customers like me, professional ethics still makes sense. You are not digging your own grave.

I see what you are saying, but I just have to think that we consumers/residents, unwittingly pay a lot of lindens to a lot of designers that have total disregard for legalities 🙁 For me, I am in SL to enjoy myself and make use of it’s creative outlet for me to decorate, landscape, etc. I don’t want, nor have time or the experience, to try and figure out who is on the up & up or not . AF is one of my most favored stores to shop. Until I am given “proof” that what he does is against ToS, any infringements, etc, I will continue to shop there. I hope you do the same. Rumors/innuendos/these kind of posts, without supporting documentation as proof, is nonsense until proven otherwise 🙂

    • A real designer? Yes I think not. Provide to anybody here a SINGLE wireframe comparison between an Apple Fall item and said 3D sites? It’s appalling how you try to destroy SL Creators. Again you state Elvi’s event is full of people who purchase custom meshes – i.e. they have a team – THATS FINE! It’s called running a company and have a team who work on YOUR IP and it’s original content. Jeez, honestly – it’s laughable. That’s not the same as (1) stealing other content creator meshes using a corrupt viewer – that’s IP Infringement dummy and (2) taking 3d Meshes from platforms where you breach the TOS e.g. Turboquid – that’s called License Infringement. None of which Apple Fall has done, and surprise (not surprised) no links, poly comparisons, wireframe comparisons, uv map comparisons.

      At this point “Real Designer” you are embarrassing yourself, not only that but if your name does get out to the SL Creator community trust me you will find this kind of bullshit much harder to continue. You don’t think they all talk, of course they do.

The thing is that Apple is clever enough to remesh, decimate, and change the whole mesh and UV for it to be totally different, but its still the same CGTrader item, what some may not know is how easy is to bake/transfer the textures from one model to another with different UV LOL so yeah, may the witch hunt continue to the end of times ?

        1 – any mesh creator knows the effort to do all that to a high poly model and bring it sufficiently into SL is a lot of work, so for anybody who “can” mesh and AF can clearly it would take you TWICE as long to do that than to just model the item your self as you can create clean topology from the beginning e.g. seams on pillows.

        2 – it seems to well everybody apart from a strange two people who keep posting secrets somebody is trying to hurt this creator personally. That’s strange. You can keep posting the comments or secrets but if anybody does find out your SL name (and I am sure AF knows who is trying to hurt him) beware. LL is now MUCH more reliant on SL merchant fees and income (especially with the recent news on Sansar). Now they have become a valuable asset to LL. Gives them a bit more weight if they have to file against people. Just sayin.

        Keep digging your own grave, will be a shame when your only outlet will be here ?

Zremesher: Set remesh to Same or Half > crease and keep creases, hit Zremesh > wait a few seconds (or ur pc is crap and takes longer) and voila you got the same item with different topology and from there just create some loops and UV it (and hey if you don’t wanna do that, just polygroup by UV > keep groups at zremesh and voila you can unwrap by groups, even quicker!). It’s quicker to take a created mesh and change it than come up with something from scratch, but hey whatever y’all in SL can stay being fake double faced and support whatever comes first but then cancel whoever comes second, and to the ones saying that Apple didn’t push people down on his way up: you clearly don’t know who he really is and the amount of influence he has had on the downfall of other creators. But whatever, y’all will still defend and support because that’s your nature. Have fun!

I wouldn’t say I’m a friend of Apple’s, we’re nowhere near that close and have had our own misunderstandings, but I’ve known him enough to know that his work is his own. I don’t scrutinise all his work against 3D model selling websites, I admit, but I’m assuming neither you nor anyone else actually is, otherwise you would be commenting some proof right now. I don’t know what your motivation is, but as a designer who struggles to reach the heights that Apple has achieved, I can understand that maybe you’re a disgruntled designer hoping to bring others down on your way to “the top”, but it just doesn’t work like that. It’s understandable that maybe you’re frustrated or whatever, but it’s just disgusting to try and ruin someone’s livelihood because you want a slice of the cake. Maybe some of Apple’s work is similar to something you’ve seen online, but here’s a little reality check for you: when we’re stuck for ideas, or in need of inspiration, we all look online. Some examples; a few months ago me and another creator both released tents based on a similar set of images off Pinterest; then maybe about a few weeks later, Apple released a fireplace that I could tell was based on the same inspiration I’d used for a fireplace before. Did I go crying to Virtual Secrets? Nah, I let the respective designers know just in case someone else started drama, had a little laugh about it, and (I’ll happily admit) silently felt a bit miffed that Apple did a much better job of the fireplace because he evidently put more effort into it. At the end of the day, when we’re working off trends, online inspiration, and even customer suggestions, we’re going to end up either accidentally “copying” each other or accidentally making stuff that looks like other models outside of SL. We’re all working hard to try and make this SL designer thing work for us, and we don’t need to be bringing each other down to make it harder for all of us.

    • I’ve been pro flickr for years, even before smug mug took it over. I don’t even blog anymore. I had pro before I blogged too. I take a lot of photos and like to watch the stats of my images on flickr. I also have close to 5000 images from the past 11 years on there..LOL to move those over elsewhere..well yeah, no. My family has no reason to miss me, when I am here on the pc, I’m no more than 5 feet from my husband unless he’s gone from the house. I agree with everything you say about the OP. I pay yearly and it comes due right after my bday, so when everyone in RL ask what i want for my bday, I ask for cash, then I pay for my flickr pro out of that. lol
