Yes I get that some people don’t like the FaceApp smile. I myself once posted some shit talk about it. But by now, we should be pretty used to it, and there’s nothing wrong with it when the photographer actually does it well. That being said, if you don’t like it, don’t fave it. I personally am not a fan of the sideways shots that some people seem to favor constantly, but it’s their picture, so they can do whatever the hell they want with it. You have the right to comment, certainly. Just don’t expect that everyone will agree with you.
Except 98% of the time it looks terrible and “off”. I can count the number of times I’ve seen it utilized well on one hand. The rest of the time, it makes the subjects of the photos look like they’re waiting for you to look away so they can eat you.
No one’s expecting everyone to agree, but there’s a disproportionately large number of people who do. In my experience, most people I’ve shown these types of pictures to describe them as “creepy”.
To clarify “I myself am one of those people”… not one of those who uses it like crazy. I tried it once and was horrified at the outcome, so I posted a “PSA” warning not to use it. But this is similar to if someone posted their phone number all over the internet, MMOs, forums, message boards etc. and then was surprised people called their number. He and I have been friends for about 4 years. In that time we found we have a lot of common interests and beliefs so I gave it a shot. He can be a very good friend, and his family is utterly amazing. Kind, welcoming, fun..but I had to learn the hard way that there is a limit to what I can do as a non professional, and that these things are not something I have the tools to handle. For my part I am working on my own issues and I own that, and am proud of my progress. every day is a chance for growth and this is no different.
