I was recently shown this website link by someone in second life, I’ve been around SL for many years and never bothered looking at this site much less heard of it, along with thousands of others. Second life is no different then any other game like World of War Craft.. the only major differences are more customizable options for your “avi” nudity and sexual content. Why are people so concerned about what people are doing in a video game? This is an odd form of harassment, stalking and obsession. I would like to point out it seems like the same people, clubs and designers are listed in here over and over again. I suggest seeking other communities with less toxic and mentally disturbed people. It seems to me that much like all the violently mentally disturbed people tend to group around with each other. If you find yourself in a mix of these types of people then odds are you have found an area in second life that invites those kind of behaviors. Unfortunately just like in real life you can’t control what mental state people are in. Keep in mind second life is a Virtual Video Game, unless your a designer who financially depends on SL for a living or have real life friends or a real life relationship with someone in the real world, you should not allow them to affect your real life emotions. The behavior of people posting others private matters on a website to try to embarrass them seems like a waste of time. People will laugh about it for a day or 2 then forget about it. If the person you are posting about is truly a Second life issue then block, mute and report them till their account or IP address is banned. My main advice is if you find yourself surrounded by toxic people or the violently mentally impaired in second life, find a new community of people to hang out with or create your own and weed out those who cause problems. Also use your block and report buttons, they work and you have them for a reason.

    • Secondlife is different from other games because the majority of people playing and posting here dont see it as one and thinks it’s real. In any other game such as WOW its players don’t think it’s real.

There are no structures in place at all that would make it a game; no quests or imposed goals, no levels, no way to win or lose or die. There’s no story except any you create yourself, no set roles to play. People can create games IN Second Life, but SL is the platform, not the game itself.

      You’re right about how seriously- or not seriously- people should take it, but people use arguments like “It’s just a game” to justify being toxic all the time, as if their lies and manipulation are perfectly OK since they do it behind an avatar. In character and OOC are still very clearly separate and definable even in SL, and if that’s the person you are OOC, you’re a piece of shit for real, not just in a game.

It needs to be talked about, they have a situation they are realizing, reaching out and explaining or venting a frustration about their lives and why is a good thing actually.

    You should not be made afraid to speak out because some people have to abuse you over it.

    Be supportive, not abusive. Mental illness is serious, not a joke. You chose to be an ugly bully instead of understanding depression and mental illness.

    • If they have a serious mental issue they need to seek professional therapy, not discuss it to people in a virtual world that can not physically or mentally help them. It is a medial matter that needs to be professionally taken care of. Majority of the time discussing your private mental issues in a virtual world is going to have a negative affect rather than a positive affect. I would advise those with certain mental disorders to seek professional therapy rather than asking people in a virtual world for help or attention. Majority of the time you will get negative attention that will make the issue worse. So please DO NOT encourage this behavior.

Majority of my family has different levels of mental illnesses, iive talked to many psychologists, o learn a lot from them and family, I have friends who have different levels of depression. I am very much interested in neurological and psychological issues with people. No, I’m not a doctor but I have many many levels of psychological experiences with many in real life.

        I suffer from just some depression and extreme anxiety at times, hardly anyone really knows about it and I do sometimes vent on FB myself but I keep it to a small group. When someone tells you that you shouldn’t talk openly about it, it makes you feel worse. People need support, not told to keep quiet.

        The people that are negative towards someone, is just an abusive person that people supporting and understanding should make them stop.

        You need to educate yourself more on this. I get what you are saying but it’s not the way to go. People need to be heard, not told to shut up

      • As someone with very close individuals who went through their “hitting bottom” moments; I can understand what Seek is getting at in some capacity.

        There are good places to pour your emotions into and bad ones. And if the person is in a particularly fragile state as it is, they may not be able to filter the negative like Respect is saying. It’s like putting the ingredients for a smoothie into a blender and leaving the lid off. It just won’t end well.

        I agree that people should always feel that they have places they can discuss their problems and their mental health, but depending on the person and how hard they’re trying to tread water in that moment, some places might not be as constructive; or they may be feeling too raw to discuss things frankly with a safe level of disconnection to protect yourself.

        That’s why having an actual support network (online or in RL) is important in addition to a professional helping you. These are the people who will give you a hand up and genuinely listen to and support you. Without support, fighting alone is incredibly hard.

        There are also places online to pour your pain into the void in a safe way. Anonymous confession posting sites are an easy jumping point to put your feelings into print so you can try to unpack your emotions. But there are also groups, forums, websites, etc that will give you direct human feedback in a constructive way. Maybe after that you can go back to being strong enough to tune the hate out.

        Just my two cents after my experiences with it.

I understand how frustrating it can be to get the linden home, but this isn’t the way to go. If you feel there’s a problem instead of venting it on here, contact Linden Labs. They do take feedback and they actually do listen to the community. To be honest, I think the owner of the site should remove 19 and 20 out of respect for Patch. He does a lot for the community and has always put the community first over himself. So, whoever posted this I’m sorry you didn’t get the home yet, but you will. Just have patience and take your time. Read the forums. People have been posting tips on how you can get the home.

    • I finally found that Flickr that everyone is talking about. (Weekend was busy so I’m slow on this one.) Just looking at their Flickr invalidates your entire argument. There is NO WAY that you can interpret those photos as being an ADULT female avatar. They have set up the skin, shape, and entire look as being prepubescent and that is blatantly obvious. Even the photos that are just of the avatar alone, with the activities they are showing, they are giving a high impression of being a young girl of about 14-16. This has been done on purpose by the owner of this avatar and if it’s true that it’s a guy who is behind this av, then that ups the creep factor right through the roof. Then the fact that he/she/whoever is putting these photos in groups like Fetish Art, makes me suspect that the intent here is intentional.
