Youi can keep people from seeing anything you post, your birth date, your location, your friends list, your photos, etc etc in your security options. Everything, is public otherwise.

    The last time someone posted about me on Virtual Secrets was week 549. Since that time (about three months ago), I’ve only frequented a small number of clubs. And of those clubs, I’ve only regularly tipped a certain amount of staff. So that leaves a tiny subset of people that most likely posted this.

Maitreya is undeniably not the best mesh out there I don’t have any of the Belleza female bodies so I can’t make any comparisons there but I do oh so love their Jake body & the quality I see there is amazing also I so do adore my Slink HG so yeah… but, what Maitreya does have; is on point marketing skills which made her the most popular body in use.

    A- She made her body a complete package down to the hands, feet, & popular skin already included… so pretty much it was a 1 stop shop.
    B- She made her body cheaper & more affordable for the common SL user… not everyone has lindens to throw around but they still want to look good so of course they will take Maitreya over the system body fugly.
    C- She got her product out there early & advertised the crap outta it… when she 1st released it there wasn’t much else out there & before you knew it “Maitreya” was on the lips of every girl out there & in turn other creators saw the profitability of making clothes for the main body worn at the time… they to have to think marketing & keep up with the times or else risk failing in a quickly changing SL world where no one wants to look like they time warped back to 2007… just look at TMP who couldn’t keep up and no longer dominates the mesh body market & creators in turn, no longer make for.
    D- She keeps up with making sure the body is still popular & made sure to quickly update with things like Bento so sales wouldn’t drop… also there are body mod nitches that utilize the mesh like V-tech only to cement Maitreya’s popularity even more

    So Guys, even though Maitreya isn’t the best she has way too good of a foothold in the market to go away unless she mistakenly follows TMP’s example.

    • The thing is about the QUALITY of their dev kit. For those who don’t know, you skin the clothes against the body. The precise the body mesh is (Slink even have it non decimated sans the hands) the better copying skin weights and overall skinning will be. Maitreya is defacto most popular body, but in terms of dev kit, theirs is utter useless shit. Slink even give you Marv avatar. Belleza gives you intro videos and awesome dev kit. Maitreya gives you unwelded shit that is horrid for anything that involves skinning.
      And whats most disturbing is a fucking statement on their kit application page saying “Limited quantities of dev kit” which is simple slap in the face to anyone who ever touched anything IT related – there is no such thing as no-copy desktop file.

      • What do you mean? Maitreya artificially limited the number of dev kits they gave out from the beginning. They admitted at one point it was to avoid creating too much “competition” and said they wanted to ensure the market wasn’t flooded with poor quality clothing for their body. They got grief for it, because people were rightly angry that they were being denied the opportunity to compete in what had been a totally open market place until the development of mesh bodies. If they still have language on their app about limiting the availability of kits, I’m sure it’s just to explain why they didn’t (don’t?) give the kits to people who’s work they didn’t think was up to par. I don’t think anyone is supposed to think they don’t have unlimited number of kits to give if they so choose.

    • Sounds to me like you’ve either never entered any sort of pageant or competition, or you entered and lost to someone you felt you were “better than.”

      The fact remains, that model competitions are a lot of work – for both the organizers and the contestants. A good one will showcase the best of the best. A lesser one… well… people won’t pay much attention to it. All in all, a competition is only as good as the organizers behind it and the judges scoring those contestants, and I can assure you, good, impartial judges are few and far between. I’ve been on both sides of that scorecard, and it takes a pretty thick skin to participate in any pageant or competition.

      That said, picking on someone for a photo is pretty lame. You don’t know the effort that individual put into her styling and posing and theme adherence for several weeks in order to win that title. You’re judging her based on a single photograph that she probably did not take herself. Fair? I think not. Instead of hating on a photo, it’d be much simpler and kinder to congratulate her on her win and go on with your day. In the end, there’s really nothing else that needs to be said.

  68. 16: Belleza is sooo much better and this dev kit is proof. More time and attention and more beautiful…. easier to design for. Appliers are easier to design as well. Somehow Maitreya got the market even though it’s substandard. Maybe because Belleza was slow in the past with updates and stuff but still…. lower is better… even though we all hate the wait, it’s worth it.

    • You’re 100% correct and many designers will admit it too, even if they suck it up and do the fit. Maitreya became the most popular because it was the cheapest mainstream option back in 2015 when this was kicking off. It was around 2k with feet and hands, while you had to buy the feet and hands separately after purchasing the less expensive base Slink body. At the time Belleza had only Venus (which was still better than Lara) but cost over 4k, so only people willing to spend twice as much to look better had it. When Isis and Freya dropped, suddenly you got 3 bodies for that 4-5k price tag, but it was still too much for most. By the time he got around to splitting the bodies up and dropping the price significantly, support for the cheapest and most popular option already had too much momentum to change. It has literally nothing to do with Lara’s quality, only timing and price.

      Belleza has a superior mesh to Maitreya in all three bodies, this is facts based on detail and realism, not opinion. People can certainly like whatever they like, but it doesn’t change reality.

      • If by superior mesh you mean the unoptimized one that has over 5x triangles and vertices of slink and maitreya bodies, then yes, it is a superior mesh. Old non bento heads are also superior then, they sometimes sport over 1,5m of triangles.
        Oh, and this can be definitely fixed, which only makes the situation worse. Gianni also was sporting crazy amount of triangles until a certain big update, after which creator did bring it down to the normal level without losing any visual quality.
        Jake 2.0 is also not too bad mesh wise, so creator definitely has the skill (and no, 3 variations of cleavage is not worth additional 320k triangles over male body), he just chose not to bother for years.

        And people forget fast, but initial Venus release was a disaster. It had lots of rigging issues that never got fully fixed (some got fixed, but far from all) until their 2.0 update with “light” versions. Which were 1750L I think, but never got popular to the point where creator just scrapped the idea and light body owners were sent a full one with 3.0 update.
        Price difference on release wasn’t 2x either. Maitreya always was 2750L, with not a single discount. Venus’ release price was 3995L.

        So as usual bunch of maitreya bashing and belleza worshiping that was going on for years by now, nothing new.

        I’m not gonna claim it’s the best body out there, in fact I do like Venus more if go by the pure look. But it’s just not supported at all, because apparently creators think that only people who use belleza bodies are all into thick freya and sometimes slightly less thick isis. Mesh density it still an issue, though. It shouldn’t be 500k triangles.
        But it’s the lesser of evils if count all things together since 2014 until now. It’s not the first mesh body, it’s not cheapest, it’s not most pretty, it’s not most light (out of big ones, slink ones are most optimized mesh wise), it doesn’t have any special predefined look to it (unlike freya and hourglass) and looks odd if you go over certain slider values (please, girls, if you want curvy shapes, get freya or hourgalss, seriously). It’s a jack-of-all-trades and easy to use, that’s why it’s still top one by far and I don’t see it changing until LL going to add something like “Bento 2.0” for bodies, that would refresh the market with all new bodies.

      • All your babble about the complexity of the mesh comes down to “Things that look better have a higher rendering cost”; well duh. For those of us who aren’t playing SL on a potato, there’s no reason to seek out a less complex and worse looking mesh to save a couple of FPS- and I personally don’t care that those of you who do might derender me. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that. I’m considerate with my script weight, but graphical lag is user end and not my problem; learn to use settings that work with your machine.

        SL in general is horribly optimized. This thread was about the realistic detail in the mesh, and since I guess you knew you couldn’t argue there you chose to take it off in a completely irrelevant direction. Moving the goalposts is pleb tier fallacy and barely even worth addressing. I didn’t miss how you ignored the OP about how absolutely shitty the developer’s kit is for Maitreya as well. Must have known that was also a losing battle; kudos on the minimal self-awareness.

        I’m going to reiterate for probably the dozenth time- I’m not trying to convince anyone to give up Lara. I love how you tried to euphemize by saying “jack of all trades” instead of “generic and basic”; very diplomatic of you, but it means the same thing. My argument all along has been that Lara is basic, and if you’re happy with basic, that’s cool. Keep being basic. It just makes the rest of us stand out more.

      • Never said I did care about render weight too much either. But you already did show your partial (partial is because at least you’re aware about optimization) ignorance, so perhaps it’s not really worth time bothering, but here goes anyway. SL mostly uses a single thread of CPU and what’s worse, puts common GPU work on CPU too, for example shadows are done purely by CPU. So you might be using the latest i9 with best in class PPC, but it’ll still use 1 core and won’t be much of an improvement over a mid range CPU from 5-6 years ago.
        Viewer does choke on heavy mesh and heavy textures and even with FS or BD viewers, you’re still limited to only 2GB of GPU VRAM for texture memory. “Horse power” helps a bit and there’s a big difference between running it on decent PC and some ancient MAC, but it’s way less than it should be, because of the horrbiel optimization. That’s the reality we all have to live in SL. Keep up with self assuring, that your “awesome PC” is doing you any good, though. Self fooling is not going to change anything, just make you look more ignorant.

        You also did ignore the part about old mesh heads on purpose, because it doesn’t fit your line about “higher rendering cost = better looking”. So what is that about losing battle, hmm? Oh, right. You’re free to test it yourself if you want, go on, pick up a demo for old Catwa heads, see them being around 1.5m triangles for the most part (not all of them. “Destiny” one does for sure). That’s the rendering cost of 5-7 full “modern” avatars for just one attachment. Then come back and say that they “look better” than new Bento ones from any major brand. Because according to your words, they are.
        But I know it’s just the case of you being a hypocrite, you’d be among first ones to mention how “light” belleza’s mesh is, while still looking, if it was at least on Jake 2.0 level.

        And I personally don’t really care about dev kits quality, I’m not a creator. Doubt you’re one either. You just did pick up a favorable theme to start with bashing, because it’s a good opportunity. At the same time completely ignoring and “forgetting” the other side of the coin, which are belleza’s downsides. Because those make your “facts” look more cool. Very typical. Must be still salty over all those clothes you can’t wear on freya, just like the rest of “hardcore belleza fans”.

        And I don’t try to convince anyone either, there are free demos for all major mesh bodies, even awful TMP has them. People can look, decide and choose what works for them, both quality and look wise. I even said about not picking up Lara if someone wants a curvy shape/look, because it really does look awful for such purpose, as it’s not made for that kind of looks.
        As for the generic and basic. Most people are generic and basic in RL too. Some manage to stand out from the crowd in a good way, but most just look like pathetic clowns when they try to. Will you stand out more if you really want to and put rainbow pants on your head instead of wearing a hat? Oh yes. But will it be a good thing? Nah, it won’t be. Clowns are still clowns.

      • The thing people forget about when talking about complexity is Belleza ships with three cleavages. Maitreya only has one torso. You can buy a v-tech or something to be flat chested, so then you’re wearing two torsos. I can guarantee your complexity will go up if you’re wearing a v-tech.

        With a Belleza body, you’re always wearing three torsos all the time. That’s going to add complexity. If Maitreya had three torsos, I’m pretty sure it’s complexity would be just as high as Belleza. So while you take a complexity hit, you also have a feature that Maitreya doesn’t have.

        You are also forgetting that Lara was advertised and pushed right. It had exclusive clothes for the body as soon as it came out by well-known creators. It was a marketer’s wet dream. People will often overlook flaws if they like something, and that is fine. From a player point of view, Lara is a decent body that has clothes for it, a lot more support, and customisation.

    • I’ve only been in SL for 2 years, and Belleza Freya body was hands down the most beautiful body I could find. Unfortunately, many people who enjoy SL don’t have a lot of free-time, so convenience is a huge draw, and Maitreya wins that contest. For designers, it sounds like Maitreya is a pain, but for consumers, it’s the easy button (and it’s still a pretty body). The Belleza bodies are works of art.

      • the number one problem with ALL mesh bodies, if it’s ugly be it Belleza or Maitreya, look to your shape, you make the mesh what it is after all. Stop distorting your damn avis trying to be ‘thicc’ and learn what real people look like. (well I don’t know you so it’s a generic you, not targeting you personally) I’ve worn both, like both for different reasons, I wish Belleza fit heads and nails better though and didn’t have a square ass

    • I love working on Slink and Belleza. Learning to work around the puzzle box that is Maitreya always takes 4x as long as making something for the others. Slink is underrated, too. They have been selling their hands and feet with the body in the same package for years but people love to drag them for selling them separately, WHICH was because many people owned the hands or feet anyway, so in slink’s eyes, they didn’t want to overcharge the customer. But rigging slink hourglass takes me about 10 minutes or less, belleza 20, and maitreya takes HOURS.

      • To be clear, that wasn’t a drag, just a breakdown of 2015 pricing since the last time this came up, dimwits chimed in with NU UH SLINK WAS CHEAPER and I just figured I’d get ahead of it. With each Slink foot and hand position a separate purchase, Lara was definitely the cheapest option at the time, and people who are loyal to Lara don’t like to hear that as shown by the down votes on facts.

      • One thing Belleza has that slink and maitreya both don’t have is …it’s LINKED no seperate attachment points for hands and feet needed that’s a totally underrated feature either xD I just love Bellezas tits and ass and the ass on the male body is the hottest on the grid J’s xD

      • Tits, ass, thighs, shoulders, belly… literally every detail is better, and yes Jake is the best male body, although Gianni is not nearly as deficient as a runner up on the male side and can look pretty amazing with a good shape.

      • I hated having hands that simply did not look right without using a pipecleaner shape. Slink hands and even the Vista hands looked like shit unless you actually WANTED to look like an emaciated Calcutta street beggar. Seamless hands and feet were one of the big selling points for me switching to Jake. Plus the compliments I get on the caboose are nice ?

    • I haven’t worn my signature body in ages,I prefer the Jake body over it as it just looks way better, and 99% of designers in SL rig clothes for it, i wouldn’t be surprised to see it as the most worn body amongst males in world.

        Jake is my go-to male body and it is a body I push people towards if they are trying demos. Now, I do also push them to Signature and try and keep them from Aesthetic as that is a garbage body with very little going for it besides if you want to look like a wannabe steroid popping Hulk.

        Some people get Signature, but most end up with Jake.

        I do wish the arms and such were a little less, I do not know, muscle. It is hard to get a small-ish shape that looks right with the massive chest it has. SLink wins in this department. However, Jake has the best bottom out there. No competition.

        I do wish the arms could be different so that tattoos could have different designs on the arms. Mirrored tattoos disgust me.

        Yes i agree with you on the no different tattoo features on the arms on Jake, and yes i also agree on the mirrored tats as well, I also like the arms on the jake they are not over the top muscles definition like on the Gianni, do guys still wear the Slink body BTW?
