  10. #42, I personally don’t get the problem with creators taking inspiration from RL items. There are a lot of customers in SL that beg for creators to make products they see in RL. Copying another creator in SL deserves complaints, even if it was something inspired from a RL creation (because it has already been done). But, why hate creators that are able to mimic something in SL just because it has been done in RL? I don’t know any creators that don’t have a pinterest, lol. If it’s original mesh, they deserve an applause, no matter what RL object they got the idea from.

    • I actually agree with you. Real or in game most people in the world repeat something they see. Just look at Businesses in Real.
      As long as they are not stealing someone else`s 3D model. Original mesh Means you made it from scratch yourself, even if you get ideals or samples from other creations. It is Hard to find something that has not been made in either worlds.

      • Exactly. There are a good amount of talented creators in SL and it’d be difficult to create something that was totally original. As long as you made it completely yourself and it’s got a unique spin, it’s fine. That’s why I get so annoyed when I see some creators attacking others just because they have the same idea. Unless someone is copying your work step-by-step, I don’t see the problem. I feel like some people have just gotten so greedy that they can’t stand the thought of competition, but that’s part of being a creator, having a brand and marketing. You are going to find yourself competing. And, personally, I like it when creators make things in SL that I like in RL. I’m gonna be honest, I’m broke af in the real world. I can’t buy a bunch of nice things, so if I can in SL, ima be happy, lmao. I’ve seen creators accuse people of copying their stuff when they are clearly different, just because it’s the same idea. And I’ve seen creators rightfully accuse people of copying them because their products are EXACTLY the same. So, I do get it. But, calling someone a copycat or unoriginal because they recreated something in SL from RL is so bogus. I guess we can’t have couches or computers in SL, lmao.

      • idk to me theres a difference in making something looking at a picture of someone elses.. and making something from ur own mind. yes i know a shirt is a shirt and its been done before.. but making a exact replica (down to the stitch – have u ever looked close at some brands.. view it the original online.. down to the very stitch on a sleeve lol) is not designing… stealing logos or other brands art is not designing.. to me it never will be.. home goods are a bit different unless its specific monogram/logo i dont know just how i feel personally about it.

      • 3D Modeling profession is literally about looking at a reference image and trying to replicate it as closely as you possibly can. That reference can be a concept art or a real world image. I don’t you think you understand what a 3D artist is. You are looking for a concept artist or a fashion designer, except those people don’t know how to model or texture 3d content.

        Sometimes 3D artist make designs as well, or make design changes but that is a strictly personal taste sort of changes not a design foundation changes. I really don’t know of any famous artist that is exceptional at both concept art and 3d modeling, usually the ones that do both are not amazing at both, sort of more jack of all traits.

        If you look at online 3d art competitions, such as those on Art Station or CG Society you will see for 3d modeling, either a bunch of concept arts are provided for contestants to choose from or they are allowed to use a concept art they find on their own as long as they credit the artist.

        What you see a a lot of 3d artists that at higher levels do, is they look up references and sort of kitbash their own design, but those designs are driven from other images/references/concept arts out there.

      • I have seen a lot of Designers Create something that is very close to the Real life things, but they always put a spin on it. I dont know nor seen anyone actually make something that is 100% inch by inch the same from a reference photo. Either way I Do agree. Looking at something to get a ideal is not a bad thing. Stealing someones elses already made 3D model that is not for resell use should not be right.

      • usually when 3d artists do that.. they do it for the BRAND that made the item.. not for the theives who need it for SL.. so spare me that shit.. and where do they credit the original designers they surely dont do that in sl?? we come to secrets for that bit of truth lol

      • You are missing the point like a typical internet idiot. Listen to people who actually know what they are talking about. 3D artist’s job is to create 3d content as closely as possible to the reference images they are given. That is the foundation and purpose of their profession, they are not concept artists, they are not fashion designs, they are not furniture designers. Every good rl artist collects references and uses one main reference and doesn’t blindly model “from memory to create original design”. That’s how you end up with dumb looking assets that are out of proportion or look weird. Even in film/games not every single asset has a concept art, or else the project will never finish., 90% of assets your lead hands you a couple of rl images from google and asks you to make it. (unless we are talking about a sci-fi/ fantasy type projects)

        If you want original content that is designed, concepted and created as a unique new piece then you are asking for a whole studio style team to be making the shit you spend $1 on and only a few thousand people at best are exposed to it and can be potential customers.

        B) You have no experience working in the 3d field.

        Ever looked at a game like GTA? You can spot Camaros, mustangs, BMWs, and various other cars, and they have all passed legal. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and just making yourself look like an idiot.

        Do you know the clothing in GTA? All 3d scans from bought clothes, retopoed and rigged for the game.

        A 3d artist’s job is to recreate the real world or a 2d concept in a 3d environment. When a 3d artist looks at a jacket and its seam and stitching, their mind starts going off on how to replicate that seam and that stitch to look at realistic as possible. When they see a dent or a crack, their job is to mimic it as closely as possible. That is the hard part of the job, being able to re-create details and shapes as true to real life as possible is a very very very difficult skill, and it takes years of practice and no one really ever masters it. You just get better at it with experience. In case of game art there is the secondary layer of how to transfer all that details with limitations of a real time rendering. That is also a very technical aspect of the job that takes years to master for various different elements. 3D artist’s job is not to design, they spend their careers learning what i just mentioned above, not going to fashion design school for 4+ years.

        You are clueless, and have no idea what you are on about. So just stop talking 🙂

  11. #21 Ok I rarely post here–but I’d thought about commenting after a bad experience at Frank’s Premier Jazz recently, and well since something came up this round…

    Apparently, Franks Jazz the hostesses have bought the “What’s She Wearing” hud, and will scan your outfits and “if they don’t like them (meaning if you didn’t buy from one of their sim designers),” OR IF you have the audacity to put together something original, you’re out! You’re NOT allowed to create your own looks– EVER–even if you look spectacular! The hostess will interrupt your dance, and likely wreck a possible friendship blooming, and start a fight with you about what you’re wearing.

    For the record, I was wearing a gold pantsuit with gold sparkling skirts, and a mink stole–all from different designers. I looked spectacular.

    They’ll name the brands you put together, so you’ll KNOW you were scanned, along with demanding you change or leave at once–“OH the NERVE OF YOU to show up in this outdated graveyard ballroom with pathetic music (not Jazz) and look so great.”

    Scanning avatars to find something you’d like to buy is one thing, but scanning to throw you out after decades of support is another.

    Also, I paid for Elite but accidentally deleted the group but they would not reinstate me even with proof I’d paid! I let that go, my bad, but it’s just now on my list of why I’ll never return to any Franks establishment.

    And send Nancee a notecard for support? Crickets. This was the end for me as I’ve donated to her sim every year. No more Franks. Goodbye. They let the MEN stay there who still rez in sandboxes and wear their gunny sacks applier clothes from 2005 and allow the hostesses to harass the paying women customers. Pfft. I’m probably banned now. Good. I’ll spend my tips and donations elsewhere.

If someone sees something that is well made and really great looking, try getting your head out of your ass long enough to realize that they gave you a compliment.   14. #7 This happens to me too! I blocked the avatars and reported problems several times (for 3 years) but as we all know LL only thinks about money $$$, these bots are spam for Second Life, more traffic, they will never solve this problem, the only solution I found was to rent a full homestead.

    • Yeah, it’s a real shame that people believe in money over legitimacy, especially when SL is being littered with porn bots offering to sell nudes IRL and cam and other bots that just 360 and leave sims.. It’s a effortless point that just ruins time and money tbh. But if LL really don’t want to look into this i guess it might be another reason to push us to Sansar which is complete and utter garbage. Especially with the whole grid going down before a while back several times and them blaming it on DDOS attacks pfft yeah right lol.

    • I’d actually also like to point out if you do own a homestead and it’s open to the public you are going to get traffic bots/fake bots regardless. Found myself banning them left right and center throughout 2 sims… Best just to close them off as private that way you won’t have to deal with them.

On the one hand, my eyes really hurt from all the involuntary rolling every time I see one of these people. On the other hand, I do really appreciate that the most undesirable people on the grid are literally wearing a sign designating them as such, which is ultra helpful for avoiding them. So…thanks, I guess?

    • I love the salt from people wearing heads with barely any support or animations trying to say a creator with like, 20+ heads has a “look” LOL I bet you couldn’t identify a single Catwa head other than Catya or Lona without inspecting, and yes those are played out clone garbage for sure so you’ll get no argument there.

      Genus heads do look fine on people who bother to make them look fine, just like most heads, but the lack of slider versatility and limited skin options are going to create just another clone type.

      • I think i’ve stated before I myself prefer the genus head but that being said yeah RIGHT NOW there are not enough skins and appliers for it but things are being created for it everyday. And there’s a couple issues with the UV map for the eyelashes and the eye makeup area that I wish she would fix.

        I ’ve found that on the genus head the skin really does make a difference when compared to catwa. My avatar looks completely different with a change of skin than my catwa head ever did even without changing my shape.

        But you’re right anyone who doesn’t work on their shape is going to be pretty much the same as the schmuck next to them.

        As far as being able to tell catwa heads, I can tell in an instant. I couldn’t tell you which one it was except for the catya and lona but that it’s catwa yes.

        So what was my point when rambling on about the genus head? It’s less clone-y than the catya and lona and people are supporting it more and more.

      • genus is not less clone-y its just newer and less popular…which when it gets more popular will be overly cloned because you can’t really shape them as you want. Only thing good about them is the old genesis project freaks hopefully don’t have their slice mark neck line anymore and can use other windlights besides annan adored optimal skin (no shadows).

      • Sometimes I think your brain works at half mast majority of the time.

        Catya and Lona are very distinct. No matter what you do with it, you’re always going to be able to tell it’s catya or lona. Dick sucking lips on one and the bulbous nose on the other. No matter what you do with the shape, you’re going to be able to tell.

        So what did I write, I said genus is not as clone-y as catya and lona. Why is that? Because it had more generic features. The sliders are less responsive but there isn’t anything distinct on genus that immediately tells me that it’s a genus head.

        Did I say it wasn’t going to be the genus clone wars? No, in fact I said that if you don’t change the shape you’re going to be the same as everyone else who doesn’t and that is true for any bento head.

        My point was that the appliers seem to make more of a difference on genus than on catwa without changing shapes. But that is just my personal experience.

      • Being able to tell a head is made by Catwa doesn’t mean there is a “look” that is the same. It means there are certain things only Catwa can do like certain animations, the support by certain skin and accessory creators means those can be a clue, those kinda things make it obvious someone is using the predominant brand. The implication OP was making is that all Catwa faces look the same, which is obviously an absurd thing to say. The Catya and Lona “babygirl” clones are not a reflection of the whole brand, and generally people who try to act like they are, are just salty as fuck watching releases that don’t include them roll by

        Believe me, being “never Lara” myself I get that salt, but in my case Lara is only one body and I can absolutely spot that sadly undifferentiated ass from across the room, any time, even when they try to use deformers to try and look more realistically curvy.

      • Hopefully the other creators will stick it out, put out updates, and listen to the consumers. As a male Catwa has had a foothold way too long in terms of workable heads. Hopefully some of the others out there will also bump up the quality, and workability of their heads to knock Clip back on her inflated kiester.

      • I use catya because it looks the most like me. I never see other people using it but I have a very unique shape. I don’t know why everyone has to hate on things, just use what you like and enjoy SL. If you’re not enjoying it and fighting with people and feeling hate all the time you’re doing it wrong.

      • Catya is the single most common mesh head on the grid, period, because it was the first full bento release by a major creator and the only one for a long time. If you “don’t see it”, it’s only because you’re not looking or are in denial of the fact that you look like cousins with half the female avis on the grid.

        Also, you should familiarize yourself with the difference between amused disdain and hate; I think the clones are funny, and in fact I rather appreciate the laziness and lack of creativity so prevalent in SL. It creates a nice bland backdrop for the rest of us to shine against, so by all means- stick with the Catya/Lara combo!

For paying members to have to disable group chat so the mods and 2 or 3 other idiots to constantly say OK is NOT ok. Have some consideration for others, and if I recall, that was stopped in the original group for that very reason. I just watched a group member quit because she stated it was annoying and one of the group mods (the biggest “OK” annoyance) told her to disable chat! For real?
