• Secret submissions are anonymous. We don’t know if your crazy ex or your abuela submitted them.
• Make your secrets legible.
• Do not contact us just to threaten us, especially with e-lawyers. We’ve been doing this for 12+ years. You are not the first nor will you be the last.

RE #6
For a start, half the population of SL is suffering delusions of grandeur and half the residents will claim to be bloggers, what else is new?
Unimaginative set ups and strangely stretched photos, true…but he/she does seem to get hundreds of views, although not many faves, on Flickr at least.
As for getting the details wrong on a post… not exactly a hanging offense, but a bit slack I guess. Clearly English is not his/her first language…again, no big deal, we all get the idea.
Not sure about a blogger slapping “copyright” on every single post though; a bit try-hard and quite unnecessary.
My question, in light of the above, is this: Does this blogger really get free stuff from every single one of the stores/events listed on his site as “sponsors”??? If yes, blogging standards have dropped.
abcd says
Tadeu Gartner is the perfect example for how to sell shit wrapped in golden foil. Not just sell it to them but make them eat it and enjoy it.
Here is the recipe for a cheap but successful personal branding:
1, Graduate at all the no name model schools known in sl and while you at it make a lot of “friendships” with people who you can benefit from or people who knows those people.
2, Be always everywhere where these people are, be very kind with them, be keen to do a lot for them (fashion runway, magazines etc) for some clothes in return. They will love you for your kindness and will mention you to their friends if they will need you. They will, it’s cheap!
3, Now that you built up this career based on relationships its time to reach to a bigger crowd! Make a shitty blog and a flickr account and to be known by more people add everyone on flickr. From the 10k people you added 2k will add you back and you are instantly well-known! (hint: when you think no more people will add you any more it’s time to delete the rest of them, if you follow 5 times more people than who follows back you are not authentic!!!)
4, Make blogposts several times a day always with the same standing, the same distorted proportions. Just put on every random stuff you got from your sponsors, doesn’t matter if it makes no sense and looks shit! Very important: name all your posts Look of the month, this way other people will really see that you are doing it well!
5, If people somehow don’t beleive you’re good at what you’re doing and have a good fashion sense always remind them! Be sure to claim everywhere that you are a professional stylist, blogger, model, you gave birth to Jesus even. You can even offer your professional stylist services to them, maybe there will be some idiots you can make some cash from!
6, Never forget about the people who helped you getting somewhere with no talent and no knowledge/eye for fashion at all! Keep kissing those asses!
If you follow these steps you also can be a “very imporant person” in sl! Try it!
Answering your question, yes, some stores/events don’t have standards, just look at a blogger who SEEMS professional at a first glance because number of followers/other stores accepted too. I don’t think that this guy has all those stores he listed….. Btw having a few hundred views and 10 favourites with ten thousands followers is basically nothing. You can get that much even only from trannies or lurking photographers who has nothing to do with SL.
Tsuki says
It is in my own humble observation that the bloggers who have to say they are famous… or slap some huge ass logo on every one of their photos are some of the lesser talented ones. Talented bloggers do not need to say they are as their work speaks for themselves.

Welcome to roleplaying, you must be new! All roleplaying communities are like this and have been since livejournal and dreamwidth. It’s common to be pleasant to everyone’s face then go on anon communities and completely destroy someone. Even down to posting their real life info and encouraging harassment because of “free speech”. Then, when it gets called out, the mods instantly show up to defend their communities. Maybe they aren’t in on the anon stuff or the backstabbing but most of the time, they sure are. Don’t believe me? 20 years of rping online and I saw it again and again and again in a never ending circle jerk. Sure is great when your real name and address gets leaked because you won’t rp gay pedophilia with some whiny 20-something fangirls.
My advice is to get out! Roleplay with a small group of your friends instead and use all of SL as your playground. It’s saner, safer, and more fun! Good luck 🙂

Good advice!!

I have found that RPing with good friends and steering clear of the large managed groups to be a better experience.
I tried a few including the one above and found them ok, just not for me.

Where’s that prefab from anyway? i like it 🙂

I have to admit I keep getting confused as to where I have landed because so many of the stores I go to all have this prefab. I’m bored with it too. It was lovely until so many started using it.
Realistic says
It happens with every good prefab. I think this one is more noticeable to the “secrets” crowd because several big name stores, and stores that participated in events requiring you to go to those stores lately, started using it recently. Also, it’s got enough detailing that retailers aren’t doing much to customize or personalize it like they do with more generic builds. And it’s just lovely and very memorable. There are literally hundreds of stores in SL using the same build though, and I bet 20 builds cover 90% of the stores on the grid.

#3 The thing with large role-play sims is that they occasionally attract people who enjoy causing trouble on a large role-play sim. Then once they do something heinous enough and have gone through the elaborate process of actually managing to get themselves banned, and are tres sad that they lost their troll platform, they move their butt-hurt over to virtual-secrets or Plurk.
Wat says
Who cares if YOU are bored of anything. I see that prefab around and personally like it but wouldn’t complain if I didn’t like it either. FFS get a life. If that is all you have to complain about you are dull as fuck.
trolololol says
If you spend your time whining in the comments about someone whining about something you personally find boring, you’re still talking about that thing. Ego, you are duller than dull as fuck.

Hello, I am a member of the OOC staff team at Mischief Managed (ALO)
As my job, I am to accept new RPers into the sim and I can state that this information is misleading.
When I joined MM I had RPed before, however I was not that great, and I was an embarrassment, but MM has helped me explore my RP and character.
1. We do not bully and ‘throw out’ RPers. RPers are dealt with on case to case. Each RPers is different and have their different style; check our OOC rules; http://mischiefmanagedsl.net/rules/ooc-rules/
BE TOLERANT
We accept a wide variety of RP style and NONE of them are the “real” or “best” ones. We open our sim to One-liner RP, Semi-Para RP and Para RP, past, present, and future tense. While there are certain times and places for certain types of RP (multi-paragraph is a bit much for the classroom setting, for example), we do not condone any disagreement with a certain roleplayers style and we do not tolerate roleplayers disregarding a person due to how they roleplay. If you think someone needs help with their roleplay or is roleplaying in such a way that you cannot continue with the scene, please try to discuss it with them first to see if you can agree to a solution. If that doesn’t work, notify a member of the RPD or an admin and we will happily step in as a 3rd party and help.
2. Original meaning not relating to the HP canon characters/Copied from another RPer. We work with each applicant closely, and we rarely decline. If you are declined, it is for good reason and the ALOs will have noted this down to you. You are always welcome to reapply and try again or ask the ALO for more detail of the decline.
Check our application guide; http://mischiefmanagedsl.net/application-guide/
3. Define cross/go against. If someone has an issue, they will inform ooc staff. The ooc staff will talk and resolve the issue, if it is breaking OOC rules, we warn them. If it is something larger; admins will get involved. We do not ban people or let people go unless it is serious rule breaking OOC, but again we will explain why.
Check our ooc rules; http://mischiefmanagedsl.net/rules/ooc-rules/
4. We DO NOT hold grudges. We are always willing to accept and allow you to change if you broke OOC rules. If you were banned, it was for a reason however if you speak to an admin, they will explain the situation. If you continue to break the same rules after being warned or banned, then it is up to you to STOP until you are allowed back into MM.
5/6. Everyone is equal. We do not accept discrimination or bullying.
As I’ve said read our rules; http://mischiefmanagedsl.net/rules/ooc-rules/
BE RESPECTFUL
Respect for ourselves and others around us is one of the many little things that make the entire RPG enjoyable for everyone, not just yourself. We at Mischief Managed require that you respect your fellow roleplayers OOCly so that we may create a fun and friendly environment for all. We are aware that nobody can be everybody’s friend, but respect has nothing to do with that. Also respect the OOC staff members (admins, moderators, etc.). When an OOC staff member raises a concern or suggestion to you, follow it. If you disagree with a staff member, speak to another one, and if nothing is resolved, we ask you to please remain courteous and civil. Otherwise, we will look into disciplinary action. The staff give their time freely to keep the sim open and flowing, so please be polite!
BE INCLUSIVE
Player inclusion must be observed at all times. Please do not be selfish and egotistic in your roleplay and ignore the people around you — this is a form of disrespect to your fellow roleplayers. If you come into a scene, stay around for a couple of post to assess the scene or IM players to see if a post order is being observed or a plot in which you can enter is in place. If you enter a role play scene with absolutely no care for the situation already unfolding, you are basically rendering the other players’ posts worthless. Likewise, if you ignore new people on the scene because you dislike their roleplay style or dislike them OOCly, that is another form of disrespect. Even if your character would never be seen interacting with them (We’re looking at you, Slytherins!), roleplay it out.
7. I do not understand what this is meaning. Our creator and owner of the sims is Anya Ohmai. Without her, MM would not be around and we have a HUGE amount of respect for her. Admins are placed to be in charge and over-see the sim, its rules and RPers. Each admin has their own duty and they work hard every day to ensure the sim is running smoothly. Admins work a lot behind the scenes, this is why you may not see them, but they are there.
8. I am sure she is not.
9. As ALO, I can tell you, this is not the case. There are a lot of places on SL that does this, however we do not. ALOs help those new to SL to find clothing, avatars and more! That is our job! Some ALOs even offer to spend their own money to help a user get set up. We have RPers who’ve been with us for years and months who don’t fly with the SL fashion norm. It doesn’t matter what your avatar looks like, it’s the RPers and community that matters to us!
10. We encourage RPers to read all the HP books and watch the movies to understand how Hogwarts and the MM sim works. MM is far in the future from the books. Everything done is still based on canon however we have MM CANON.
MM Canon, or Mischief Managed Canon, is simply the canon that is to be true at Mischief Managed role play sim in Second Life. Mischief Managed pulls from a variety of sources in order to flesh out details that either aren’t mentioned in the books, and thus, provided elsewhere. It is what is approved and accepted to be “true” within MM’s role play.
If you want to know to know all things canon and if you’re unsure please ask the RPD team, that is their job!
Current information; http://mischiefmanagedsl.net/about/current-plot/
I hope this clears things up,
Don’t hesitate to ask questions first before writing such.
Signed,
Rita (MM ALO)
An MM ALO says
Regarding Number 3 about Mischief Managed:
Hi! I’m actually one of the ooc staff members, and an ALO, I’m actually rather confused by a lot of this.
1. What was your definition of a bad roleplayer? We normally work with every new member that joins, help get them set up and I personally try to help make sure they figure out a place to feel welcome in our community. If you mean trolling/god modding/metagaming/ooc issues taken out ic and vice versa, then yes, there will be problems, but our sim is so beyond friendly, and we normally try to work things out before even thinking of banning or ejecting. It takes a lot for that to happen and we give tons of chances
2. Actually, we are extremely happy to work with any backstory. As an ALO if something doesn’t fit the correct Hogwarts Canon, we will write out a very detailed notecard explaining what might need to be fixed, changes that could be had, and talk things over, going step by step with the pending member in hopes to help get them accepted. Sometimes the most ordinary backstories are a breath of fresh air from the more crazy/original ones, but I still love reading each and every single one, and I actually really really enjoy working with the new members. ALO is one of my favorite jobs for this exact reason.
3&4.&5. Again,it really does take a lot to get thrown out. Instead of writing this on an SLSecret, perhaps you can talk with one of us staff members and we can go over things with you. Perhaps there’s a specific person you didn’t get along with and I’m really sorry to hear if you have had that issue, it’s never a fun experience. But I do promise you, not all of us are like that, and I’d be happy to chat with you if you ever have an issue or complaint that needs addressed.
6. I’m not personally aware the bullying patronizing of other players. If you’ve experienced this, I do ask that you come to a staff member so it can be addressed and we can find an answer that will help both you and our community. Nothing gets solved or fixed if you hide stuff in an anonymous photo on a website giving out secrets, and so far, none of these have been secrets.
7. Actually, we do. and she’s beyond generous and kind and while she is doing a billion other things in SL, she still tries to take the time to help us out, and has taken time out of her daily jobs to build mesh areas for us and update our castle to be as beautiful as it is.
8. I’m sorry you feel this way. Again, if there’s someone that’s been harsh or mean to you, please let us know and we can deal with it. There are sadly people out there in SL that will cause drama, argue with you, and you might not see eye to eye. And yes, sometimes there’s mean people. Everyone’s experienced it in SL, including myself. That’s why there’s a block and a report button though. Seriously, SL Secrets does nothing here except fuel more of that dislike of whatever is going on with whoever bothered you and possibly give entertainment to the others reading this. And, if someone’s bothered more than once, please come to a staff member or an admin.
9.Sadly, this is the social stigma of Secondlife. This isn’t just at Mischief Managed. Not all of us are like this though. Some of our most loyal RPers started off with no ao, no mesh, no nothing. I’ve gone out of my way to help some with updated skins or hairs, and sometimes gift them the fateplay uniform when , yes, I do see other students avoid students that might not look pixel visually attractive to them. As an ALO, that’s normally what we do, and a lot of our members, find us without even knowing what secondlife is, and we spend time walking them through all the basics to understanding SL so they can enjoy our community. We’re roleplaying in a simulation society that nitpicks every avatar flaw, detail, ao, body slider, hair store, similar to how people see others in real life. If you get to know the role player base though, so many of us try to not judge based on avatars, or we help those out that are struggling. Sometimes it’s the lack of linden or just lack of SL knowledge.
10. I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about. We have all the canon knowledge, but our sim follows a different time line as to not mess up any potential future stories from JK Rowling. We don’t know what her written characters would currently be doing at our school. We have no death eaters, Voldemort is gone, the blood purists honestly shouldn’t be as voracious to hate muggle born students, but honestly, so many want to play that character archetype, and it adds drama to the school. If you mean we don’t have any decent plots, then do submit one on the website, where we have a section to fill in a personal plot request. OR, get involved. We have admins and staff, but you can totally help create and make or change a plot. Just try to step out and get out there.
Regarding the P.S.
We have a lot of rules at our roleplay sim. They’re there to keep students following the linden lab TOS regarding playing teenagers, or from having super over powered ‘HUAH I’M GONNA BURN THIS PLACE DOWN’ weekly. Not everyone can be a veela or seer or werewolf or an ancestor of famous wizards or the next Voldemort. We keep these limited so that we have a good even distribution of characters and members and special abilities. We ask that you approve things with the RPD, and that you roleplay within our guidelines to keep our school canon and fun. As I’ve said until blue in the face: If you have an issue with a staff member, roleplay member, admin, the house elf under the stairs, Tell us. Send a notecard, reach out to an ALO or an admin. We have pagers in the landing point. We won’t know who we need to address, until it’s brought up and we’re made aware.
This place has been a virtual home for me for almost two years now, and is something I truly care about. If I can help you out with these issues, and we can figure out another answer, I’d be more than happy to chat with you, and I know our Admins would do the same. Please do give me the same polite courtesy I am more than happy to give you. All of us ALOs are more than happy to work with you. Feel free to come to our landing point and page us if you ever need help or have a complaint or anything. We’re here for our community and the roleplay sim we love.
Always.
