        My point is that anyone that has been in SL more than a hot minute knows how it works. Pixel sex is serious business for those involved. There has been more scandal and drama than a little bit behind who hopped on the pink pose ball.

Were you not around for the grand drama of incest in the family community? The father and son who started a relationship on alts?         Two people placing their avatars on pose balls and leaving them go at it while they go off and have a cup of tea could be considered mundane pixel sex. However, use voice, cam or even just textual stimulation to arouse eachother and you invoke sexual reactions.

        Now I don’t know how you’re put together Angermanagement poster but I’ll put hard cash that nobody on this site will put their hands up to ever having had a pixelated orgasm lol

  4. Let’s not forget about people using copyrighted characters for items. HyperboleandaHalf owns the rights to the Alot monster and yet someone was selling Alot monsters in a Gacha Event. Just saw the other day another “designer” selling Pusheen the cat plushes. Don’t think they had the rights to those either. It’s pretty simple – if you found it on the internet, you don’t have rights to it.

    • errr wrong sorry, a lot of things can’t be copyrighted so suck it up prinicess. If someone wants to copy a skirt, a chair a sofa a house or a dress they can.

        To an extent they can, with limitations. Refer to my lengthy post above where I clarify the law in easy to understand language.

        A chair, sofa, or dress can be recreated because they are useful concepts and can not be copyrighted. ART however, can be copyrighted and is therefore a different ball game.

I am assuming that “pusheen” is the original creation. The creator of that very distinctive cat would own the copyright. Anyone who reproduces the work without consent from the copyright holder is committing copyright infringement.

      • Yes I agree with you. But I was referring to a more generic piece of furniture not art. For example the hermes chair copied over and over. Or an A Line skirt or a pump shoe. I don’t get why people are so upset about bringing RL into SL.

  7. This weeks secrets are so boring. I would have expected with the crashing of the olrich empire last week there would at least be something about that. As for the writer of the scripts secret someone obviously pissed on your wheeties to get so worked up and abusive over something so trivial.

    Here’s hoping for better next week.

Maybe I am missing the point here because I have no f-ing clue who made those hairs or blogged them or whatever you’re getting at, but those hairs are kinda similar but not even close to the same. And how long did you spend searching for that June 2012 image? I suspect you might need a life…

    #2. I get your point, but honestly do yourself a favor and save up and get a better computer. I did, and I can even move easily around C88 when it’s busy. You’re not going to change these people with a secret and a lot of the offenders don’t even know about secrets.

      • Oh come on now! Brie isn’t going to stop because I dislike her posts! I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. It’s just my opinion, and if you don’t want opinions/thoughts/comments why do you even have a comments section?

        It’s just interesting that she’s a ray of sunshine posting her love and good tidings week after week, and then suddenly this week it’s BAM!!! All these positive posts were intended to show up the person that was so mean to her once upon a time.

        I will do this however, I will not read Brie’s posts (which I had stopped a long time ago but broke my rule this week) and I won’t comment on them either.

  10. 3) I agree. I am sick and tired of seeing products copied from google images and brought into SL. There are so many cases of it.

    However, if you make original, ORIGINAL, you’re pushed to the curb and ignored. It’s all about having the right friends in SL.

    Yes. I used to own a shop in SL but got bullied out of it.

    • Really you were bullied so horribly that you no longer have a shop? What was the shop name and why did the people bully you so badly? Please elaborate.

      • Her shop was designer Prims / Elle crescendo. She says this every week. But her blog tells a different story. She couldn’t keep up with customer service and from what it looks like she realized she $couldn’t do mesh.

        Every goddamm week she posts here.

        Even before that there were comment on here showing you harassing people. Your flickr is gone now did Yahoo ban you? Or did you freak out at being caught publicly for being a spiteful crazy ass?

        I am sure they have free counseling for people like you where you live if you can’t afford to get help for your issues.       • I’m pretty sure most of the sl users who are not on plurk or heard of sl secrets buy clothing/other items without a thought about copied images…they just dont know. Before plurk and virtual-secrets, I had no idea either, I just bought what I wanted to buy because I liked them.

        They buy it because the don’t know or care about copy right, they just want the item now to look awesome.

        What bothers me is like #3, what everyone picks and chooses to get up in arms about is amazing. They’ll get their undies in a bunch over a fabric texture or piece of art stolen off google, but give zero fucks about full items, outfits, accerssories being built in SL from RL designs. Feeling that since they meshed it it’s legal. Sorry, but no.

        The circle jerk of designers beating eachother off because they have to make themselves feel better for copying soemthing already imagined instead of using their minds and making something new is sad.

        I’m not talking about something moderately inspired by, or using a reference either, I mean I see a thing and copy said thing right down to the last detail.

        But hey, who gives a fuck if it lines their pockets right?

        Actually, it is legal.
        Clothing designs can not be copyrighted. They are considered “useful” and are fair game. A content creator who chooses to recreate a clothing design in Second Life is not treading on illegal grounds. Where it becomes illegal is when and if said creator decides to (1) Apply trademarks they do not own (2) Introduce texture, images, etc they do not have the legal right to source from (3) Infringe on a company’s trade dress.

        Examples of #1-3:
        (1)Say they are making a Nike shoe design. They can legally recreate the shoe design, but the moment they stamp on a Nike logo, or use any reference to Nike in order to sell that shoe, it is trademark infringement, and therefore illegal.

        a) It is legal to recreate a shoe that, in appearance, looks like a Nike design.
        b) It is ILLEGAL to recreate a shoe that, in appearance, looks like a Nike design AND uses the Nike logo or any references to Nike.

        (2) I don’t care how many people do this and how acceptable this is in the SL community. LEGALLY speaking, it is illegal to grab images you do not own the legal right to use, and source from them. Yea grabbing a texture swatch from Google really isn’t a big deal but if you have not received consent from the copyright holder of that image, LEGALLY speaking, it is illegal to take and use. There are websites that specialize in images that are free to use commercially. A popular one is cgtextures.com or 3d.sk

        (3) When recreating items that already exist in RL, there are also potential issues of infringing one’s trade dress rights. ref: 15 U.S.C. §1114 An example of this would be:

        a) It is legal to recreate a phone store consisting of hundreds of phone designs that, in appearance, already exist in RL.
        b) It is ILLEGAL to package and display your phone content in such a way that it is mistaken as being the Apple store.

        Obviously this example is much more understandable between business that tangibly exist in Real Life. A good example would be the T-mobile store vs the Apple store. Both of these brands have very distinctive looks. Without ever seeing a logo, you can immediately recognize a T-mobile and an Apple store. This recognition is known as a company’s “Trade Dress”

        T-Mobile can house all of the phones they want, but if ever their shop began to appear as an Apple store in appearance, Apple would go after them for Trade Dress infringement.

        Most Second Life shops don’t tend to carry a Trade Dress, they are often unorganized and all over the place. But it does exist. Regardless, this is important to understand because a lot of SL users think just because they didn’t use another company’s trademark, everything is now fair game. That just isn’t so.

        The secret is extremely relevant, and brings up an issue that has been beaten to death.. in the end, nobody cares. But just because “nobody cares” doesn’t make something legal. The comments are pretty comical – you don’t get to pick and choose what is legal and what is illegal based on what you want to buy in SL. The government has already decided what is and isn’t ok.

        I have experience in preparing and filing for legal trademarks, I know how the system works.

      • You all are just too obsessed with little things, what is so wrong about using a famous portrait or painting in a frame inworld, not every designer is a painter, an artist, a musician, magician, fashion designer or whatever more. Do you know how hard it is to work with 3d, keep up with updates and news that shows up every week, month, year? You must simply understand that we have a life behind the screen and it is already hard enough to do all that we do and maintain our quality, we try, I swear to you that we really try (serious designers), but some times in order to give our best to you we can’t think of e-v-e-r-y single thing. So please, stop being so harsh on us. Thank you

      • Crazy concept, I know – but have you considered reaching out inworld for artists and painters, etc?

        There are a large amount of active artists and creative types in SL who would be happy to be paid for their work, so you can sell original artwork without infringing copyright.
