Okay so, I’ve been mulling over the “underage” appearance+pacifiers thing since last week. I think a lot of the defending arguments can be unraveled with some discussion of context. A lot of the arguments last week revolved around DD/lg dynamics and littles. The former is often sexualized and used within a BDSM setting. The latter is akin to headspace and a desire for childhood confirmation (and this is summing things up very very messily for the sake of posting). With that being said, there is a problem in claiming “littles” in many situations in SL. Are you in an adult interest place (like a club)? Then that’s in direct violation of the aim of the little dynamic. Are you dressed in sexualized versions of children’s clothes or even just wearing adult-aimed clothing (mini skirts, booty shorts, low cut tops, etc)? That’s another questionable choice too. Being in your “little space” essentialy means you’re acting as a child for that time. These are things that children actually can’t/shouldn’t do. Basically if you’re going to just pop a pacifier in and use the little thing as a shield, you should be aware of the signals your other choices send. How much of them contribute to the perception of your intentions? If you wanted to “be” a kid while in that headspace, then be one. Don’t half-ass it then wonder why people are questioning the adult things you’re putting your child “self” into. As far as Avatar appearance, we can (and have) argued over what is and isn’t too youthful. And while some of it is a question of personal aesthetic vs anatomy, context again plays into this. I think you have it pretty much right, but you are forgetting the AB/DL community. Both of which may use pacifiers in their ‘sessions’. Of course, it is more common in the AB (Adult Baby) part of things, but you may see it mixed with the DL (Diaper Lover), too.
I must admit, the baby faces are a bit too much as that seems just… I have no idea how to put it. There is nothing wrong with wearing childish clothes, using a pacifier, et cetera. I’m older than you and I can tell you that in SL, an adult avatar should never wear a paci or diapers or take a bottle and the reasons why have nothing at all to do with shaming littles or those who go into little space in RL – it has everything to do with sexual ageplay rules in Second Life, the ToS of SL, and the child protection act online.
