why does anyone care about copybotting (stealing inworld peoples creations for themselves or for profit) if 99.9% of sl steals from actual brands anyways?

i get people want to wear things in SL they maybe can’t afford in real.. i totally get it.. but when you steal you really can’t complain about someone else stealing.
With the exception of the lipstick example, people get twisted about it because copying a RL product still requires the creator to actually make the thing and texture it. So there’s some effort being spent there to bring the item into existence. Copybotting is 0% work contributed (just grab and upload), so the examples aren’t quite equivalent.
A better comparison would be people who copy RL products vs people who copy other SL creators’ ideas or aesthetics.
also all the shops on canal street should not be in fear of being shut down.. by your thought process.. because their products are created from some sweat shops.. meaning work has been done by someone (like SL meshers) ..¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I think you’re missing the point here. No one is saying it’s not theft, what I am saying is that’s the difference in why people are so much more vocal about copybotting. Saying that people steal IPs means we shouldn’t care about even worse theft doesn’t really make sense.
Finding infringing material means you can report it to a faceless corporate company (and many, myself included, do), but it’s up to them to DMCA it and often they don’t either because they don’t see it as a threat or they don’t understand the monetary gain in SL and assume it’s just a “video game”. Theft inside of SL’s ecosystem means it’s more likely to be understood by the victim and then dealt with. THAT’S why you see so much more reporting on it since the SL ecosystem is contained in itself.
People like results and to see justice done. They’re going to be far more invested in the conflict they’d be more likely to see results in.

After the 2nd month of it happening (we were talking double billing like 5000 dollars – I think it was 8000 but let’s go with 5000- on a credit card here) he said to support, “and don’t fucking read me the knowledge base”. They threatened to suspend and cancel his account. Sarah Nerd said fuck in concierge (was it there?) chat – can’t remember if she said “Fuck you Linden Lab” or what, over a LL decision and they banned her (later reinstated). If you are wondering why it matters – Sarah Nerd owned tons of mainland sims. Once I blogged about my shitty support experience with Lotte Linden and a couple days later her and a few other Lindens showed up at my store and talked some shit there.

I do have a Maitreya body in my inventory and no, I don’t have leg sliders on 100 for a booty. Leg muscle sliders have very little to do with the size of your rear anyway, you’d know that if you knew how the sliders worked and basic human anatomy. There’s virtually no way to make the “ass and legs look connected” unless you are abusing the sliders or are going for a more androgynous look with narrower hips to match the waist. As it was pointed out, the leg muscle option is to attempt to add definition to the hips, thighs, and rear in the classic avatar. It wasn’t designed to make your ass bigger. That’s what the butt slider is for. It’s the reason why most mesh bodies only go “so far” in terms of using the sliders – people began to realize that the early 2000s’ look of men (and some women) looking like they are trying to be the Incredible Hulk was a horrible mistake.

There’s also the fact that while yes, there usually is a crease in the buttocks and thighs, any realistic definition is a product of lighting and body movement. So yeah, like the previous comment said, if you’re looking for realism, a virtual world is the wrong place to go to. And unless you’re spending most of the time in the nude in SL, who gives a solid fuck what highlighting is going on with anything that is hidden by their clothes? Whilst the two people in the video were obviously engaged in some borderline behaviour that makes it difficult for me to sympathise with them, the behaviour of E.I.G.H.T is also equally concerning. Yes, many of the avi’s banned by E.I.G.H.T have subsequently been unbanned, but it doesn’t change the fact that E.I.G.H.T engaged in some pretty intimidatory and underhanded tactics. Barging into people’s houses and looming over them is not the kind of behaviour you expect or condone from a Linden lab employee.

I think you all misunderstood me. Linden Lab won’t ever get shit from me about this site. Unless they decide to send their lawyers my way and even then I will fight it. Why should I cater to a company that banned a paying customer for owning a website. If you (and your partner, significant other, audience, etc), find humor in it, go for it. Last week I posted a comment about how in RL, I am in HR and so as I put on my HR hat, I will say what I say to our employees when we do training on harassment – make all the jokes and comments you want, but at the end of the day, it’s your job to know your audience so don’t get all uppity and upset when someone gets pissed at what you said. You are solely responsible for what you say and there are real consequences for it.

There are people out there who have suffered miscarriages and the death of their infants during or shortly after birth who have to put up with these “jokes.” So fuck right off with that “motherhood is inevitable” crap. And adoption is insanely expensive in the US and it can take literally years or decades for people to be cleared to adopt. I read on a website shortly after her passing doctors were able to save a baby that small.. i was a bit jealous but i understand that the world doesn’t stop for me. Everything is someone’s “sacred cow” as you clearly have seen. However, it wouldn’t kill anyone here to be more sensitive to the feelings of people around them.
Oh god, stop with the “oh yeah, well have you seen??” tripe. Yes, pregnancy and child-rearing is expensive all the way around, no matter how you go at trying to get pregnant/have children. No one is denying that. That doesn’t make your argument any more valid. There is no way to make death or illness funny; you can try and make all the excuses you want (“those aren’t life choices hurrrrr!”), so keep jumping through those hoops to justify making it ok to laugh at a mother’s pain in losing children.
It seems the only people spazzing are the ones that don’t like being called out for being the shit people they are, but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night.
Account, you’re beyond upset about this, taking it personally, and reaching to take it places it isn’t and has never gone. Saying “I’m pregnant, April Fools!” isn’t making fun of anyone’s miscarriage or infants who passed. It isn’t even making fun of infertility. It’s like you missed the point and you’re breaking your limbs to force a reach that isn’t there.

If that’s all it takes to set someone off, maybe Parenthood isn’t for them anyway because they’ll need much thicker skin when raising a child.
