Why Hellos “Sleepy” B-Triv… I do so enjoy your comments every week; you’re quite the witty lil’ bastard with lots of Lawls. Most of the time I agree with you on most things and if nothing else I get a good laugh … but this week I’m not laughing so much. Much of the SL stuff I don’t get myself so I chuckle at them as well. I picked it up ages ago because I no longer had the space to do things like painting and it was the medium I chose to use as a way to learn how to use Photoshop… then later on things like video making and Blender. Which, by the way, are tangible RL skills to have and use in places other than SL. In fact, over the years I use the skills I’ve gained “being some fantasy fucking fat-ass blogger” more in RL than I ever do in SL. Just because you don’t see the value in something doesn’t mean it’s worthless. But, what really chapped my hide was your rant on disabled people… you said it yourself you aren’t disabled and don’t know their plight. So why do you think you even know or can remotely understand what they are going through? @me you may have a point but I don’t see any clarification as to if Bobby is talking just about fakers or the disabled in general…. there are many fakers in Sl and yes they should be ashamed and go fuck themselves for what they are doing… but I’m very protective of the truly disabled who get treated as retarded stains on society more often than not by those who have no clue to their actual issues.
As far as getting assistance, I can’t speak for all the disabled out there but if they are anything like my sister their viewpoint is probably similar where Yes; she is all for actual programs made for people like her and have the safeguards… but would rather gauge out her own eye before making a go fund me and if there was a personal fundraiser she would make them march all the profits made to a actual established charity… so I refuse to partake in anything of the sort and if I want to help I go to my local charity.
Most truly disabled people hate asking for help unless they really need it and can’t do something themselves. One can far better help a disabled person by treating them normal but getting things they can’t reach/too heavy or helping them up those stairs.. and even discreetly doing things for them in public to save them from the embarrassment of having others notice they can’t do it on their own.
If Bobby is just talking about the fakers then ok that’s fine I jumped the gun and misread due to my protectiveness of those like my sister and him being sleepy when writing the comment.. I do hope that is so!

So I see Arcade is in the "spotlight" this week and rightfully so as they gear up to take our hard earned Holiday funds. They already hit us with the back to back of Sept. & Oct. crap that wasn't even worth looking at much less playing for. Yes, there are bloggers out there that have no talent and are just in it to get free stuff & status without doing any actual work. This does not mean that there aren't others who invest time & energy into creating wonderful art along with a substantial following that does make a difference for Creators…. There will always be "Wannabes" in any community RL & SL who are usually the loudest of the bunch! But, they do not represent the community as a whole so don't bunch up the Real Talent with the likes of them!

RE: #30 – I don’t know who this blogger is, but I do have some commentary on this issue.
I will say, I have worked and do work as a rare blogger, and I never use photoshop when I am asked to cover something. This spawned from an issue back in the day where people would photoshop errors out of items purchased in world so when purchased the consumer inevitably ended up with a poorly rigged or textured item that was made better looking by the blogger (I know, I know, I should buy demos but I am an impulsive idiot so buh).
I genuinely want to display how an item looks in world on my avatar. If you have a face shape like this person’s avatar, it might be nice to know that the skin looks a little odd around the eyes. They could have changed their shape to fix this issue, but I don’t inherently see being honest about items shortcomings as bad blogging so much as being the transparent to the customers that this issue can exist. When designers support honest blogging that shows small issues or errors in a product, I am also entirely more likely to buy their products, because that integrity is attractive in a creator.
It looks like poorly worn/removed applier makeup. Everyone has an occasional photo glitch like that. I’m not excusing it, it’s clearly a mistake and she should re-take it. But how do the rest of her photos stack up overall? Is this kind of mistake an exception to an otherwise OK portfolio or something that happens more frequently? Context.

All the Arcade stuffs. Everyone will wail and cry and kick and scream like babies. But they will all go running back for more in the end. It’s like fundraising. Just give it time and everyone will get taken again. Arcade has been pissing on brands and customers for years and they are still getting plenty of creators and shoppers going. Nothing will change. And yeah, we will see if Scarlett Creative really stands to her values in the end and leaves Collab.

Fuck The Arcade, and fuck the losers who run it – these cunts think they’re bigger than jesus. I can’t support an event that’s run by such shitty people. I hope that people stick to their word and stay away from it – a run-down of a recent earnings report made it seem like they’re not making as much as everyone once thought.
The problem right now is Arcade, which has “shitty people.” A year down the road Epiphany, then another event, then another event. It’s not that people are “shitty”. They are all starting out as “fair” events for the most part. Throughout the years as events grow and as both event coordinators seek more revenue and creators do as well, then the issues start to arise. One can question if it’s that as an event grows in popularity the coordinators assume they can do what they like (much like Coach price-gouged bags when they became “it” brand because they knew everyone wanted their bags). It’s a business model in real life, and remember, it’s SL but people are trying to earn real money using real-world business ethics or lack thereof. There is always two sides to a story as well. I’m not defending Arcade here in the slightest, but let’s not assume that creators are perfect either or that one event is 100% better than another. All sides in this want something, a profit, and if they are cut-throat they will do whatever it takes. Yes, I’m aware that there is favoritism but let me be frank here. If you have worked in real life, you sooner or later have experienced favoritism in your work or have actually done so yourself without realizing. This is something that we can work on, but if we need HR departments to actually in theory check and balance on this in the REAL WORLD, how the heck are you going to assume that in a small business in sl this will suddenly disappear? Honestly, I want events to just disappear. It’s getting to the point where there is really about one event per day of the month. And it’s working both against designers because in order to profit they have to ramp up their production which results in less quality, and our wallets because we are essentially buying all over the place. And in the sense of Arcade and Epiphany, both of which are essentially the same event but with slightly different rules (rewards systems), I can tell that bottom line both are money grabbers. I think the whole gacha industry in SL needs to just implode on itself. It’s gambling. Couple that by the fact that it’s lining the pockets of event coordinators that sometimes are creators that quit actively creating to actually manage these events (this should make you pause and analyze just how much revenue these events are creating from our pockets); and it’s a toxic environment for everyone in the purchasing side. Personally, I side with the scripter. I’ve read both of their stories, and while I know the truth is usually somewhere in the middle of two different storylines. However, I have a feeling that the event coordinators wanted to originally get rid of the scripter but were intelligent enough to create the tension or make it look like there was a tension between them and the person. That way if there was ever a case against them, they would have the “proof” that he was making one of the coordinators uncomfortable. And by the way, RL companies do this when they want to fire someone. His failure here was in apparently not drawing up a contract with Arcade (notice how the new scripter did to protect themselves). People role playing as children isn’t pedophilia as long as it’s not for sexual reasons no. I know people that play children avatar just for fun, but they will not do anything sexual or talk about it. Could it be happening when I dont see? Possibly, but I have no proof, I’ve not seen it. So, I have no issues with people being kids just to be non-sexually silly.

The immediate assumption is that everything in Second Life has some dark, serious sexual undertones – and more often than not that’s true. But what do YOU get from it?
I can answer for myself at least. I have a kid avatar but I don’t RP at all. I would feel silly and awkward myself. I create in the community though because I can make ridiculously cute shit without it being “weird” on an adult avatar. Like ruffled socks, fluffy bloomers, cute jumpers and dresses. If I could sew in real life, I would be a seamstress for kids clothing. I just enjoy making kids clothes because I like making cute things. I hazard to guess that alot of the non-RP kid community are doing the same thing. I can’t answer for all the people RP-ing a child, but I remember hearing from a few people that they do it because it is therapeutic for them as they had a bad childhood. I had a great childhood myself so I am not going to judge. If it works for them, then why not. I think every genre in SL has some creeps, including the kid community. Unfortunately, they ruin it for everyone else. But I think most people don’t truly believe that the entire community is a bunch of degenerate sex fiends. They just enjoy the explosive drama it creates when they use the word “pedo” It’s just human nature I guess. You won’t meet a drunk in a bar unless you go to a bar with drunks. You don’t need to worry about the entirety of the kid community, I guarantee you that most of them are not RP-ing anything sexual. #27: Yes the blogger world is SATURATED its true. Yes there are some designers at the TOP of their game who don’t need bloggers because it doesn’t make a difference. Wait what’s the point of sharing this chat? SMH…. someone still hating on Toxxic? The blogger managers these days have a lot of work sifting through all the wannabe bloggers. Why do all the wannabes get the sponsors? There are really good blogger/photographers out there who are not picked as well over the newb blogger wannabes. Don’t get me wrong… these newbs can be good too, i am just making a point.
This is true, it’s so saturated that it’s near impossible to find bloggers who actually contribute significantly to advertising a store. It’s nice to have “Art” made of your items but I don’t think that they make a significant difference to much if you’re an established brand already. I’ve closed my blogger group periodically multiple times for extended periods of time and couldn’t see any difference. I’ve never heard once that someone found my store through a blogger; but I have heard people finding it through their friends, group gifts, giveaways, events and sales. I am pretty certain bloggers come pretty low on the list in their marketing power.
Couple that with the fact that a bunch of them are a giant pain in the ass and you start thinking if it’s really worth dealing with them when you can advertise just as effectively without them. I wish I was the only salty designer thinking this but I am not.
i kinda agree @Kek… you can’t even get a lot of bloggers (especially for events) these days to tag you on flickr/social media.. instead they annoy a whole group of busy people with senseless junk mail which could have been avoided by following directions and tagging the brand as they ask. Big reason why messages get capped is all the junkmail links in groups flooding you when you’re offline.
I think its the other way around, its not the wannabe bloggers. Its the greedy sponges that ruin blogging. That is because creators are constantly feeding the same bloggers time over, regardless of how good they are or if they have no blog. If you choose less busy people who have some talents and a willingness to learn and work with you, it is far better. You have no problem with tagging and directing them on a more personal one to one basis. I find the people who are the best bloggers are the ones grateful to be on your team, grab them before others do . Also use the traditional means of passing your blogging packs to your bloggers personally, if its a small select bunch this is easy and quite fun to socialise and get to know your peeps.
All this new fangled blogging systems are unnecessary and people get lost in the systems of passwords and web pages etc. But make sure they are willing to upkeep a website, blog page or something. Thats what you blogger managers should be doing. As for the Flickr artists add nothing to your store, if anything I find its more about themselves than the product itself. All we are doing is feeding free props.
i understand what ur saying @ hotcarnitas but i dont know many people that go to actual blogs.. most people will click on social media links. fb/flickr .. myself i fav on flickr because its far easier to find the fav when im inworld (far easier than skimming FB because im very easily distracted) wanting to grab something.. Not many people i’ve heard of will click past a flickr page IF it has the links.. and not 1 person i’ve ever spoken to saves actual blog pages with the exception of maybe seraphim but thats more of a directory imo. im not saying im right.. im just saying as a shopper as well…ive found flickr much more useful than just a blog.. Sadly The Bad Guys don’t seem to be on much anymore. Storydel is supposedly retired which is a shame. Although there is always hope that the Cassos will continue trolling them. Although not as funny as the aforementioned trolls.
