I’m a creator and don’t support events. In the past four years I have only participated in a few, seasonal events. I release every month and, if you’re a fellow creator, you can believe me when I say it is very much possible to make an income without events. Maybe not at your first release, but be consistent and you will see results.
I’m also a customer and don’t support events by not shopping at events. If you’re a fellow customer you can believe me when I say that there are still more than enough items to choose from. If you’re a blogger you could also blog older items to show your support and encourage others. Be consistent and you will see results.
It goes both ways.
In response to the events, yes there are way too many! It’s not going to change though. I remember when Collabor88 was actually collab items and not just “Here’s a theme, throw trash at it please!” Yes people complain about the events, the lack of creativity nowadays and how everything seems cheap and rushed, but getting to the point; to be fair and being honest there’s no real point in visiting the mainstores at all. Why? The problem comes in when the creators just stop putting out mainstore releases. They just completely forget they have a mainstore and it’s basically a warehouse for their past event(s) items. That’s what people are mainly getting upset about. Popular creators are forgetting that their mainstore shouldn’t just be a warehouse for their event items. Lots of creators did a good job of getting out mainstore releases and event items and a few gachas here and there. Also creators and whiners and everyone inbetween including myself, we’re basically forced to shop at events because of the former complaint. You want that new item from so-and-so? Gotta go to that event or wait a couple months (sometimes half a year, yeah I’ve waited half a year to get something from a creator that was at an event for a month) or sometimes creators never put them in their mainstore, and fail to mark it as an exclusive. Er, which gets to the extremely confusing part of SL, are event exclusives really exclusive or are they just jacked up prices for that event, only to find them cheaper in the mainstore like a month later? Regarding shopping events – I think what some fail to realize is that the sales events are meant to reach those who do not normally shop at your store. By exposing store items to different groups of people at these events, the (potential) customers want more. They eventually get the LM to the main store, and they look around. Marketing isn’t meant to be easy, and yet the events provide so much marketing that it makes it seem easy to do. Nowadays there are so many events that too many content creators have gotten it backwards. Not only do a significant number of them have no real marketing plan for their store, they neglect main store releases. Some stores don’t even make the time to put non-exclusive event items back at the main store. Everyone can see this. Of course no one will shop at a store if there is little inventory, or the items are not as good. This teaches shoppers not to expect anything new or interesting at main stores, and that they should go to a satellite location to get the latest items. The end goal should be to get all of the customers that buy at various events back into the main stores, and to join the inworld group and/or subscriber so they can learn about all of the store releases firsthand – main store and event releases. For many, the end goal seems to be to get into as many events as possible, so that they can get as many sales as possible. No wonder there is so much inventory nowadays. What? Biggest obstacle to …what exactly?
I am not a designer lol. I am just an observer and that is my measly opinion.
I’m allowed to have an opinion. I call it like I see it and what I see is that most designers (certainly not all) are trying to set up their items where the action is in order to make some amount of money for their time invested and then I see the occasional random asshole complaining about having to go to an event.
Most people enjoy events. I seriously doubt designers are going to take that kind of hit against their income to cater to the few.
Kudos to those designers who are a big enough name and been around long enough to get away with store sales only, but not everyone can do that.
It’s funny how everyone’s experiences are so different. I see that designers make their items cheaper at events and then once the event is over, it goes regular price in their stores. I also notice that because they are competing, side by side, with other designers, that they tend to put more effort into it.
Of course this isn’t true for all designers, but it definitely is for many of them.
And yes, those complaining that the designers are rushing and putting out shitty items in events instead of releasing items in their stores are assholes. That’s a sweepingly shitty thing to say about designers in general.
I see tons of awesome things at events AND main stores.
Damn, just take a moment to appreciate the fact that you can shop for virtual shit you don’t in any way even need to live.

as a content creator who is in an event almost every month, frankly, i love them. and i’m going to keep doing them because they fit into my brand very well. events push me to create more often than i might when setting my own timeline and the themes invite me to get creative in ways i might not have otherwise considered. yes, sometimes i get very busy — but being very busy is not the same as “rushing” to release products. i labor over every single one of my creations from start to finish and, yes, some of them take more labor than others. but i would never release something i wouldn’t personally own and my standards are very high. events allow me, as a less well-known brand, the opportunity to get my products under the noses of bloggers and shoppers who might never see them otherwise. like it or not, i make TONS of sales at these events, sales i do not make at my mainstore — they are the backbone of my income and my income is not just for extra spending money — it’s food on my table, copays for my family, mortgage on my home. so it’s important to me to make money short- AND long-term. but if you’re not in the business, you don’t have a lot of room to speak on it. i’ve been in some form of business in second life or another for almost a decade, a freelance artist for ten years before that, and i can tell you with absolute certainty that sacrificing those short-term sales will not change “all of this”, it will not give me more sales in the long-term and not just because, by the time the long-term arrives, i won’t be here anymore. it will kill… Read more »
#6 makes me sad. Please don’t give up! I think things will get better for you, and I also think you can be strong enough to effect what change you might need in your life to make that happen.
#11 just looks like putting a forced alpha mask on the hair layers so they aren’t a glitchy bag of shit a la flexiprims of the past. I don’t really see how else to deal with the alpha sort issue when it comes to large, texture-reliant hair… Understand that sometimes SL creators have to compromise to work around SL (and OpenGL) limitations where they can and still make the products they imagine. Especially now that folks are finally concerned about polycount.
#11 That’s not it, LeLutka does that and their hairs doesn’t look like a hot mess. Nova doesn’t care, never did and people fail to realize that. Just because someone is ‘popular’ doesn’t mean they’re talented, this is her reality but soon enough she will become irrelevant once a new ‘popular’ someone takes her idiotic crown.
There are multiple ways to overcome SL limitations and still create a decent looking product, so don’t take it for granted and assume this is the best something of the kind could look because it is not and deep down you know it. There is absolutely no reason to praise little bones, just look around, you will see people doing the same and doing it better.

To the idiot who posted the secret about Malena Von Dash, there is an additional texture hud for sale with additional textures sold separately in the booth at K9 on the side wall of the booth. If you weren’t and idiot you would have checked the entire booth before you posted a pathetic secret with broken English worse than Malena’s. The secret really should have been about how Malena posted on her Flickr bragging that she now is a Maitreya Mesh and Belleza Mesh verified content creator and then went on to release those dresses in horrendous standard sizing only.

Maybe because they are trying to actually make some money, you know, like in the real world when you buy a coat, you don’t get the coat in 123 colors and textures, if you want extra colors and textures you have to buy them.
This designer offered extra addons for those who might want more options. How the fuck does this make him/her greedy? It’s only there IF you want to buy it.
A few designers, as a special thing, have added in HUD’s with tons of options in them and now everyone thinks this should be the norm for their greedy entitled asses.
I always love how people in sl think they are entitled to shit that designers spend a great deal of time making.

To the whiners whining about events, it’s the masses that allowed this to happen, not the designers. If designers made as much just having store releases, don’t you think they would drop all the crazy events?
Events are not fun for designers either, but it’s the only way to make any money anymore.

I could not agree more with this post today I worked for her for some time an that’s exactly how she treats her “SLAVES”. she steals ideas makes them no mod no trans so people can not steal her shifty stolen ideas. Then when there is bad reviews CSRS EVEN friends with Alta she sends out ims and emails begging for Alta to leave a 5 star I have had to do this many times with this woman she is fake fake fake. On this case the good side of events are that I don’t have to tp to every store I might like, I like several and events are good place to showcase all in once place items and also stores I never heard of don’t usually go to might have something worth it.
That said there are WAY too many events and the popular ones running the same crowd over and over again not to mention some GOOD designers in order to make it resort to recycled or barely modification of previous things. True capacity and creativity can only be pushed too far and I agree on customers having to back off but we need designers to make a stand too.
The GATCHA events are if anything one of the things I’ve been ditching this year.
Exactly this. Most designers I know try to get away from, or at least reduce, the amount of events they are participating in. The fees to get in (while understandable; event owners have to pay for the space/tier) to events can be tough to pay every month when you are in multiple events, the deadlines can be hectic and while many of the event owners are nice as pie, some of them are spending so much time herding cattle (designers/bloggers) that they come across as rude or uncaring. That being said, once a designer opts to drop some or all events, they find that they stop making any money. So all the time invested in making items is not worth it when you compare a small handful of people that will come in and shop at your store vs. the masses shopping at (or trying to get in) to the events. Instead of blaming the designers, blame the customers. Clearly, events are popular. If you’ve ever tried to get into collab or arcade or any of the more popular events, you know how very many people are shopping there. When all of you shop, every single month, at all the events, you are making a statement “this is what we want” If it was the other way around and events were dead and inworld stores were being swarmed when they have a new release, then things would be different. This has been proven, time and time again, by nearly every designer I know. They will take a month or so off of events and only release store items, advertising them in groups, facebook or what have you. They make no money and sadly go back to doing events. See, I am a customer and I hate going on all the fucking events to get some new stuff. Its like alot of designer are only busy creating for events than doing actual stuff for their stores. I don’t like waiting for days or using an device to get on an overcrowed sim, that’s lagging like shit, just to get maybe one item. Either I do this or I have to wait for a long time to get it in the store (and designer don’t always put everything in their stores or they need a long time after the event ended, wich is understandable since designer also have a life and not always time for Sl and that time they need for the next event..).

That’s the kind of thinking that refrains all of this from changing. Sometimes it’s best to take a chance and loose some sales at the beginning and end up with a good and steadier income on the longterm than being trapped into this insanity.
Accountability.
Are you a customer or a designer?
Sometimes you really don’t HAVE TO HAVE that thing you think you want soooo much that you are willing to try for hours, or even days, to get into an event to buy.
Sometimes it’s best to take a chance and lose the chance to get an item RIGHT NOW and end up being one one of those customers who will make it worth a designers time to focus on new store releases instead of being trapped into this insanity.
Perspective is fun.

But it’s never the solution. it may seem like you’d be better off, it may seem like it would be best for your friends and family, but please, from someone who has lived in that darkness before, please believe that it gets better. As for Harley, I’ve not experienced anything negative about her and the way she took your comment speaks words on how she won’t waste her time fueling the fire. Since there isn’t a ‘secret’ about either parties, it might be a good sign to MOVE ON.

Also, you may not want to copy/paste definitions word for word off of the internet if you’re going to attack her grammar. You also might wish to go ahead and be a grammar nazi to EVERY post that has someone who misspells things, not just one person who spelled “guerrilla” as “gorilla” (because let’s face it, not everyone would know that guerrilla is spelled differently.
