Unrelated to the secrets, the new Second Life banner ad with the new starter avatars actually looked pretty cool. I was surprised how good all the new stuff looks.

And I realize the internet loves to only give black people a hard time because apparently ‘——-‘ aren’t allowed to have opinions.
But I’m sick and tired of having shit like this done to me. So, yes. I’ll leave the shit alone. It hasn’t gone anywhere other than the same ol’ same ol’ and it’s a waste of time. It’s also a realization to not trust a single fucking human being whatsoever.

You’re right – SL is game. It’s an online community of people who, in reality, are adults. The fact that someone goes to a store and gets harassed is absolute bullshit. Plain and simple. A person should not have to “turn off their computer and go outside” over someone else being an immature twat and trolling a store. They invest money into this game, they have the right to be able to play it as they see fit without being called “whores” and “prostitutes” and being told to do sexual things with a child avatar.
Quite honestly, that kind of thing is absolutely disgusting. No person should have been attacked that way and whether you see it as an “attack” or not, that’s literally what it is. Even by LL ToS, it’s harassment and it’s not something tolerated. Those girls filled out reports on those people, yes. However, if people them them and yourself had a mature outlook and treated people with some decency, that sort of thing wouldn’t happen.

Yes this is a game but that doesn’t mean it’s okay for ANYONE RL or SL to call someone all the horrendous things that my daughters were called. It was disgusting. The screen caps on the picture are barely the tip of the iceberg… And frankly everyone SHOULD be able to go someone where in SL without being attacked and called a bunch of names. It’s a game but 99% of people behind the screens are adults. We can act like them.
I do not look at chat when I am at random shops/events/sims I do not know. Not because I am so terribly worried about nasty things people say but because I am not interested in what most people say be it gesture spam (I play without sound most of the time too) or just idle chit chat. Every now and then when I did not react to something people sent me an IM and it takes me a few seconds to block them if they had nothing nice to say.
In the end the people behind the avatar should all be adults and able to handle these kind of situation, not reacting at all makes these people annoyed because they just wasted all their time trying to get a rise out of you and were denied that.
Don’t be anxious/afraid/hurt/scared of and by what others are saying in SL you have the tools to silence them permanently and if they follow you around while you shop.. just ignore it too. Granted you can and should always report if you were harassed just to rain over their parade a little more after you denied them their fun by staying unaffected! These people don’t know you, you do not know them it does not matter what they say about you or think about you because to you and your life they have no worth and no meaningful contributions to make, so you may as well pretend they are not there by blocking them.
I’d be pretty annoyed if I couldn’t do the shopping I was expecting to do because the sim was being trolled. Back when I joined, I’d pretty regularly get shit-talked for my choice of non-human avatars if I went anywhere outside a certain community. It was exhausting to wonder ‘Can I go to this shop?’ or ‘Can I visit this sim?’
Yes, it’s a game. It’s supposed to be leisure, not anxiety-provoking.
Either things have changed since then, Blaise, or I’ve been really lucky. I don’t wear human avatars, and the comments I tend to get (if any) are along the lines of, “Cool avatar! Where did you get it?” (At which point I tell them where to get one, if it’s still available, or at least who the creator is if it isn’t being sold anymore.)
Sounds like I missed out on much of the furry hate, but it’s sad that similar hate is aimed at child avatars even now. Especially since most of the people behind them are pretty cool, at least in my experience.
I don’t necessarily agree with hassarment of child AVs but it’s easy to understand it and where it comes from. There’s sleaze in that community and well,grown men dressing up as wee girls is just plain creepy to most of us. But no need to be horrible to them unless you witness the sleaze amd then you simply report it
