Before we delve into secrets…
• If you hook up with a crazy in SL, it is not our responsibility to help you deal with that. If it becomes a RL issue contact law enforcement.
• Trust no one. If you tell people your laundry they will air it for you.
• Secret submissions are anonymous. We don’t know if your crazy ex or your abuela submitted them.
• Make your secrets legible.
• Do not contact us just to threaten us, especially with e-lawyers. We’ve been doing this for 12+ years. You are not the first nor will you be the last.
• Lastly, if the material submitted here triggers you, please get help. If the materials submitted here make you suicidal please see the suicide hotline numbers posted. They are there to help.

There is no “might” about it.

Piet’s design store doesn’t sell his work to SL artists lol – it’s super really expensive wallpaper (think thousands of dollars).
Cory’s image above shows conclusively she ripped his work.

At least 2 people have contacted Piet. I did myself too, as I am sick of these so called “famous and above reproach” SL creators ripping off copyright and then risking my purchases when I pay them money for items. It’s sleazy.

Cory has failed to answer at least 3 notecards I know or and 1 IM to clarify why she used his work without permission.

But what I will tell you is, I won’t touch Cory with a bargepole because I don’t support people who rip others off. If this was some lesser known creator we would have ripped them apart here. But not the “famous” ones. oh no!

I took the time to look up the cost and info as well. It’s two hundred dollars for the item in question. It is sold to the public. Here is the website for it http://www.nlxl.com/collections/scrapwood-wallpaper-by-piet-hein-eek/products/phe-03 (be sure to hit stop on your browser, as it transfers you to their main page). You can clearly see it is for sale, it is in no way ‘thousands of dollars’. You don’t have facts here, you are just spouting bullshit. It gets old.

Who? Are you now saying there is more wallpaper? Wouldn’t surprise me if more people were ripping stuff off.

I guess if you are wallpapering a tiny piece of wall yes 200 Euros. If not most rooms would take 10 rolls so 2000 EURs.

anyway glad to see that site clearly shows it’s copyright proving all our points.
Cory Edo is a copyright infringer.

The End.

Thank you Na. They couldn’t let the truth get in the way of a good witch hunt now could they. Perhaps cookie and her vendetta can go away now.

If I put that wallpaper in my house (RL ) and took a pic of that wall and used it in SL am I allowed to do that? It is my photo of my wall?

Where would you recommend? I think that’s a good idea.

And I know beyond any measure of a doubt, a really successful RL designer who sells his wallpaper for thousands of dollars to cover a room, wouldn’t EVER give permission to some tiny SL content creator. It would have made the news (seriously) including via Linden Research.

Occam’s razor.

I don’t agree. If a famous designer like Piet collaborated with a SL artist it would be all over Linden Lab’s blog on the news feed. They promote that stuff like crazy. It would be a huge deal. Just like when other brands have put things in SL. Also zero comment from Cory. Stop supporting copyright infringers. The end.

Do you even actively use SL?

Just wondering. You seem rather out of touch. Anyway, there was a huge plurk chain on this, looks like 3 or 4 people have now reported her to the designer and even reached out to provide DMCA information and how to file via Linden Lab.

Still no word from Cory Edo on infringing copyright. (Doesn’t surprise me, she has no answers for being caught stealing another’s artist’s work, what COULD she say at this point). Noticed on her Facebook too, the pictures of this release are gone. AHEM.

The plurk has been pulled probably due to its defamatory nature. It appeared though that many felt it “wasn’t ripped, you can’t copyright wood planks, it’s not an exact copy, just very similar etc etc.similar is not illegal people so unless it’s a total rip it may be here to stay. Put your brooms away for now

not very much and when I do it’s just to visit my little mainland parcel and pass some time, so yes I am very out of touch. I am surprised there has been no word from Cory though. I’m not confused about the whole thing I do not wish to think Cory would do this, there has to be an explaination for it.

Famous in SL really doesn’t equate to much in the realworld and if you’re right you not spending your few lindens there won’t effect Cory at all . I really think you all should wait to clarify the facts though, how do you know Piet didnt give Cory permission to use it, you don’t know that for a fact.

Purlease. Content creators are not special snowflakes we all bow down to and sweep their shitty behavior under the rug. Anybody with an eyeball that works has figured out it’s a blatant infringement.

Not a mistake.
The editing shows real effort to hide the original source.

Call a spade a spade.
Names were named and there the pearl clutching clan are now all trying to cover up for their beloved (infringing) creator.

I seriously hope the real designer does make an example of her. It will stop then perhaps all these other idiots churning out their bland copies.

So you don’t care about Copyright Infringement. Cool for you.

Some of us do, it’s called being ethical. You wait until a SL Creator gets copied they will be screaming and crying.
It works both ways.

As a artist you have to credit sources and get permission before taking someone’s work. You cannot call it your own and make a profit from it. That is called stealing and it could land you in legal recourse if someone finds out that you used their work without permission to make sales with. Ethically it is wrong, morally it is wrong, legally it is wrong. Period. Why anyone would want to put themselves in a position to lose money because of a small copyright infringement is beyond logical explanation.

I read and then re-read things a few times and the ( often jumbled) meanings can eventually be figured out…BUT…
what does this reply even mean???

The head is from Logo and uses Omega skin appliers. I do not see how this head is expensive (it’s 2500 lindens) considering the The Mesh Project head is 5k lindens and can’t even make all the wonderful facial expressions this head makes. If they don’t like they head & feel it’s too expensive they don’t have to buy it. Add ons facial expressions I think were like 250L each and the vamp teeth 50L. The head was released all the way back in May. Why make a secret about it now?

I went to the store to price & demo. The expression huds are $499 a piece, there are two of them. And the mesh body appliers for the Logo skins are another $499. Not to mention buying head appliers for the skins you already have.

The demo looks great, but it’s going to be a save-up item for me personally. I don’t know if ‘rip-off’ applies, but there is certainly a bit of sticker shock. Not that I begrudge the LOGO creators a cent. That’s some quality work.

The head comes with one expression HUD. You don’t need to buy the other 2 if you do not want to. Plus it’s still less expensive than The Mesh Project Head. To me it just seems like this person who created the secret is feeling all “Sour Grapes” over the head.

I just googled his name Piet, his work is not released into the public domain and it’s protected as he commercially still sells it.

I can’t see Cory stealing work, he had to have brought it in good faith such as on the Marketplace and got duped not realizing somebody was selling stolen copyright work?

Has somebody alerted Cory or Piet the original designer as no point us all chatting about it on a website. Cory can then confirm where the texture came from and clear this up which I am sure he would want to do.

I didn’t think it was the same on first glance. But I just rotated it and the wood cuff bits are exact in the shading and some of the planks you can see the exact grain lines. It’s a match for parts of the wallpaper designer.

She (it’s not a he to my knowledge?) must have permission to do this or a explanation (or just didn’t realize or know!)

I cannot believe Trompe would have sunk down to the Cheeky Pea level (who regularly rip off fabric website copyright display images).

I don’t mean to be the negative voice, and it is unlikely that a RL designer gave some SL designer approval to use their work.

So unless Cory posts here with her source and confirms just how she was duped into infringing one of the most well known designer wallpapers out there in the US,, sorry it looks like infringement. I hate to even type that as I am probably the biggest shopper at that store and really really want this to be something that is explained away so I can keep shopping there.

If she posts details, fair enough I’ll believe her as I want to give benefit of doubt. But I really don’t think there is an excuse for not checking your sources or to realize you should. It’s lazy.

True, she doesn’t owe us anything for those commenting here without any connection to the product. I also agree innocent etc first and there must be an explanation why she used his work she can provide that is legit.

For those who purchased (that includes me) she absolutely does owe it to us to not use infringing materials because that makes it a risk I lose my money if Linden take the item from my inventory if the original creator files on Cory.

Cory makes income from this, so for her it’s not a game it’s business.

I do realize she probably won’t be commenting here, but I am checking her social media as I really do want to know why the copyrighted material is included in her work as I can’t use the house knowing it’s infringing a RL artist otherwise. Ethics won’t let me.

No, this is not okay at all. If you are interested in knowing for sure, you can read SL’s ToS as well as this pretty commonly used copyright information website http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html . I’m a bit baffled you would think just because it comes up on a search engine, it’s okay to do what you want with it.

I think this would be a good idea, I wish they would get rid of SL Events and think of something far more inspiring! Sadly, I lack the imagination myself but it would be so much more fun to buy less, but with higher quality and meaning.

Perhaps related? The secret said third time caught? Perhaps the poster has been to Cory and this is the third time she infringed something. Or they are just causing drama. Either way, it’s pretty conclusive and I didn’t understand copyright either. But those links about make it pretty clear if you read them.

I have left her a notecard in world to explain there is a post here, and it would be good if she can shut people up by posting on her own site explaining how she got permission to use Piet’s work. That way people can stop calling her an infringer.

I have brought nearly all their homes 🙁

I read the links, and thank you yes I now understand the copyright part now thank you.

I love their work and this is so depressing, there surely has to be something somebody can find out to prove it was a genuine mistake? I don’t dare contact the creator but would somebody who knows them do it?

Well I emailed Piet’s email from his (her?) website here to ask if they had provided permission and provided links to the item on Flickr (as I guess they wouldn’t have access to second life).

I doubt a non SL person would have any idea how to file a takedown in a virtual world IF this is infringement but perhaps they can contact Cory to clarify legal ownership.

Personally until I see Cory posting something that clarifies the very specific source of the image that proves she (corrected from he) has the sufficient legal rights to use Piet’s work, I am steering clear of this store. I really would be pissed if I lose inventory if things get taken down by the real owners.

I think some people on Plurk their friendships are deeper than just Plurk, they do truly share there lives. But you can’t expect people to just be your friend. They will friend others along the way maybe not to the extent they are friends with you. Take it as a compliment that someone thinks you have awesome friends.

I am sure that is true to a certain extent and in rare occasions. But the point of my comment was twofold: 1. No one has the right to say who they can and cannot add as friends. 2. For so many on plurk adding a friend is one click of a button and you never bother to interact with that person again. It’s superficial.
