Before we delve into secrets…
• If you hook up with a crazy in SL, it is not our responsibility to help you deal with that. If it becomes a RL issue contact law enforcement.
• Trust no one. If you tell people your laundry they will air it for you.
• Secret submissions are anonymous. We don’t know if your crazy ex or your abuela submitted them.

Besom’s not new. They just change their name a lot. They were Soonsiki before this and Milk before that. People need to chill out.

I agree with #5 too lol. They are the same poses over and over again. Can’t they let other creators in and maybe do a cycle so it’s not the same, boring stands over and over again. And cmon, 6 poses? LOL At least make it look like you made some effort.

The only hair I have seen get very close to 200,000 poly is Little Bones. Ploom has one that reaches 130,000.

Sims players consider anything over 10K ‘super high poly’.

Yeah, you read that right. 10K.

um. ok so sims stuff is mostly modeled with planes. MUCH MUCH MUCH less poly count for clothes and hair for that game engine.
Secondlife supports models like this.. but with the terrible alpha glitch that is in this platform its kinda hard to model things for the avatar using planes (2d if you will)
You’d be posting secrets if someone was making polyplane hair trust me.
As a mesh worker for SL trust me. Planes is less poly sure, but it looks terrible in this platform. You wouldnt dig it.

Game avatars too over 10K Poly would be “high” when you want to protect frame rate in game play.

Hopefully in the new platform there will be more suitable abilities for efficient items to be part of the platform, and less efficient items more clearly obvious in measurements/costs.

That is just horrible. Who ever wrote it should be ashamed of themselves.

#4.. really, that’s all you have to complain about? Someone made time in their busy life to log in because they got in to

The. Last. Camp. Ever.

Not online enough for you? Maybe they have alts, maybe they have a day job, maybe their life is going through stuff in the reals. Heck, maybe they’re playing other games now and then too. Who knows,

But seriously, you’re gonna complain in secret in such a vague way that no one knows who you’re talking about? What’s wrong with just IMing them to say “Hey, why you no online much anymore? I miss you!”

I highly doubt it’s the last camp ever. All the hype gets everyone in a frenzy to get in, spend their money, etc and then in six months or whatever, there will be some big long speech made about how much Camp is missed and it will start all over again.
You really cannot actually believe its the last one, can you?

When they said they were closing OSE, they did. They didn’t open it back up later because everybody was begging them to. I don’t think they will CHK either. I WISH they would, but I don’t think it’s the case. Besides, they’ve never had to create hype to get people to want to get in. People want to get in every time. Very few actually do get in. The rest go on a waiting list, where most of them remain. The person who made this secret is probably one of those that didn’t get in, since that apparently happens in SL secrets every time. Somebody doesn’t get in, gets upset, makes a mean secret. I feel badly for the person, but I think it’s silly to make an SL secret over it.

Reply to  I believe it is the last.

Actually, OSE opened twice.

And yes, there will likely be another camp, but not because Jill and Gattz decide to do it again. They’re probably done and ready to go tend to their RL and their adoption (best of luck with that, you guys!). Someone who has helped run camp before will ask their permission to use the name and make it again, or people who used to attend will make a new non-CHK camp in the spirit of it which will become popular.

The need for a camp doesn’t go away just because the people who used to run it are done, especially since it’s ending with a bang rather than tapering out or falling to bits due to drama. Rather, the question becomes when someone else who’s capable of running one will step up and do it.

These personal attacks on Besom and Olive are boring – Why isn’t anyone talking about their products and quality instead? Let’s talk about the render time for their hairs as well as the land impact their designs carry versus say, Truth, Exile, Argrace, AD, Dura, Wasabi Pills and dozens of other that do NOT have the texture and render issues that Olive and Besom hairs have… why?

Hello too many poly’s! how you doing 😉 oh girl, I just love your 200000 triangles all over your head!

All joking aside, I can attach a hair from any of those shops I just mentioned (sans Besom and Olive) and it appears instantly but attach a Besom or Olive hair and you might be waiting 15-20 seconds for it to appear and then you have to wait for it to find your avatars head off of your hand or foot… why?

Thier designs are cute, no doubt but really, why their hairs take longer to rez and rez correctly needs to be addressed by them. Anyone here have a logical and thoughtful response to this and maybe an explanation of why they cannot successfully create non-rigged mesh hair and so many other creators can.
Oh, and before you suggest the problem is on my end (hardware, internet, graphics card…) I assure you it is not.

Besom, I can see getting shit for her shitty work. Luck gives her a good hair once in a while but over all almost every hair has an issue. The FaMeshed hair she did for example. Raise your hand if you tried the demo. Yea she spent more time on her advertisement than on the actual hair. Rebranding 100 times will not make your hair better. Spending the time needed will. She needs to back off climbing the ladder and work on her execution. A solid product line will move you up the ladder far faster than who you are chill with or how many events you slap shit products up at.

U must not have tried the same demo.. I loved the fameshed hair. What was wrong with is? I loved that there were two versions of it too. Not many hairs come like that. (or u just have to pay twice for a similar hair)
The Besom line seems strong isnt it? I have several of them and all the releases are pretty popular. Are you sure you’re not the person who creates all these secrets each week hah!?

Well I never claimed everyone had same tastes or any in your case. Do you always assume someone agreeing with a secret makes them? I don’t need to post lol seems at least one person feels like I do to post it. A brand or line has to have some age behind it to be called strong. She takes the same hair she has made and slaps a different name on it this is what the third time? I stand by my initial remark. If she took all the time she spends on photo shopping her advertisements and also re branding and put more time into the products she is releasing she would fair better. She has alot of great ideas and I will say she has some original designs, which is what makes the problems that come along with her hair even more disappointing. I don’t know what demo you tried but myself and several others had same disgust when we tried it on.

Are we talking about the same hair here? I just checked, and Besom actually does what she is supposed to and sets attachment points correctly. Meaning even if the hair doesn’t rezz right in it is never on your foot or your hand, it sits on your head, which is more than can be said about some of the others not setting attachment points at all. I never have an issue with the hair rezzing or the textures coming in quickly so I am not sure what your problem is there, however It does take a while for some others mainly little bones textures to rezz and often they blur on me, but that doesn’t happen for everyone else, so It could be a user side issue since I do not hear this complaint often. After Rezzing an Exile and Besom hair Side by side the land impact on both are very close exile being 3 and besom being 5 for a much more detailed hair. I think some people just like to make something to talk about. Tell us the hair you make with all your mesh knowledge and skills so we can inspect your quality please. I think the butthurt besom secrets maker needs to move on with their life, the constant reaching every week for something else to throw at them is getting really old and boring. pathetic much?

It’s really apparent you like to think you know about 3D lol. How could you possibly know how many polys any of these hairs are unless you bring that mesh into a modeling program and check the polycount. Your computer must really be garbage. A good little tid bit for you… mesh hair in sl is roughly ranging between 60k and 130k polygons. If you want smooth mesh that moves with smooth rigging quality, that’s just how it is. Quit your act and invest in a desktop.

It’s really obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about. The viewer provides an easy way of checking polycount at a glance, complete with showing what LODs things jump to when viewed at a distance.

And even with AAA games, hair rarely passes 2-3Ktris. If any hair maker in SL tried to get a job in the gaming industry, they’d be laughed out of the building.

You mean looking at the meshes in wireframe mode right? you still do not get to read a number that tells you the number of polygon in that mesh. If i am wrong please correct me. By “easily at a glance” you’re talking about wireframe? right?
Lets not cry so hard about hair meshes being too high poly when most clothing creators are using marvelous designer.. which does indeed put out triangles.. Clothing in sl is much much much higher in polycount then hair.

Nope! Develop Menu>Show Info>Show Render Info. Third row from the bottom shows KTris, KVerts, how much memory the model takes up and how many objects. Without anything selected, you get a full reading of everything that’s on your screen. When selecting the object, it shows all of the relevant data. Zoom in and out to see how well or poorly the LODs are constructed.

Thank you for that information.

I have used Show Render Weight for Avatars and notice that hair is one of the biggest culprits for that. Wasabi Pills and Truth and Magika are really good, low render weight, relatively speaking (I don’t know about other games), at just a couple thousand. But then certain other brands are anywhere from 60k to 200k and more. It’s the same with any other wearable, such as clothing. I dropped a hat one time to use as decor, and it was like, 300 land impact! Apparently that’s common because they figure if you’re not rezzing it, it doesn’t matter. Well, it does, your machine – and everyone else’s – still has to render the object, that still affects you… I don’t know much about the technical aspects behind the scenes, I’ve never created content for games, I won’t pretend to be an expert. I just don’t understand, if decor designers in SL, and designers in other games, can make more efficient items, why can’t clothing and hair designers? (Legit question, what is so different about it?)

Perhaps because an attachment doesn’t count on their land usage. If they have a table rezzed it does, so costs them in how many prims they use on their plot.

People don’t ask for low prim wearables generally (there are exceptions) it’s about the detail. So some designers will keep going at it with the inefficient models.

But it does attributute to lag, tried going to an event lately where people are wearing 1million prim hair and attachments, you can’t move, it’s not fun. I know you like to to protect your designer friends and ensure your kickbacks continue, but you need to be practical indigo.

Idigio just replied about why prim counts don’t matter as much if it is a wearable.

I think you may want to focus your emo post elsewhere it makes zero sense.

And any mesh creator worth their salt doesn’t keep it high poly when they import, they retopo it before to make it efficient.

SL also counts the vertices on the UV map not just the vertices on the mesh object, it factors in both. So to get a true poly count, you need to view it in a 3d program.

Additionally, while it’s true that occasionally you would want to add more verts to make sure the mesh doesn’t clip through other things, that’s no excuse for people to just subdivide endlessly. If you find you have to do that, you’re doing it wrong.

Actually, I find all of the brands you listed just as bad. All of them come from the tradition of fitting squished sculpties around the head and have merely replicated that with more polygons in mesh rather than actually modelling new mesh and none of them bother to add any LODs. Mesh should be more efficient than sculpt, not less, and yet this (along with all the additional 1024 textures on each new hank of hair) is why people frequently complain that mesh is laggy.

They will, however, continue how they are because there is no incentive to do better.

Uhh, well this is amusing. Lol
I own Beusy, and would like to clarify a few things.
Since this site and post was brought to my attention.
Beusy came before the name brand Besom, incase it was also implied.
I literally take zero interest in copying other’s work. That’s not going to get me anywhere when it comes to success.
Yeah, Besom’s set up is fantastic. No doubt about it.
However, I was allowed INTO the event 5 HOURS before the VIP Guests were coming in.
I didn’t have enough time to make things look absolutely presentable or top par.
Lastly, if you’re at all familiar with my work I always use warm colors. My mesh logo is ALWAYS Green. So the fact our Names/Overall Color Schemes are similar is coincidence.
Honestly, if you have issues with my work or questions about things, ask. ‘Cos spreading false information is pathetic.
