As someone who makes stuff for TDs. I also sometimes make things for boys, and its hard, its very difficult because, even boys in RL wear pants/shorts, and graphic t-shirts, like 80% of the time, and in SL, that’s all people make. i am really tried of seeing people making graphic t-shirts, its really annoying, so when i do make boys stuff, i try to stay away from doing that, and on occasion i’ll do a t-shirt.. but mainly because i don’t know what else to make for boys, without it being overly dressy. If other designers are in the same boat as i am, they are probably having the same issue, don’t know what to make that hasn’t already been made 1000 times. Also there are less boys, and boys stuff doesn’t sell as well, so i’m sure people don’t want to spend the time selling something that will get one or two sales on it, and then sit there until it goes out of style. My suggestion is, maybe start making things for yourself? I started making things because there wasn’t clothing that fit right for my avatar, and that was back when the Tiny-Tot came out. I also agree with people complaining about seeing the same retextured/photosourced templates everywhere. i personally am still struggling myself with learning mesh, and i use templates, but i try my hardest to make them look very different. With the option for people to have templates to use, ANYONE can open a store, and it shows, and it saturates the market. forget trying to shop of marketplace anymore, because 90% of it in terrible. Of course Bit is “picky” about who she gives her DAE files too. Don’t be stupid. You think she’s going to just hand them out to anyone who says they want to make clothes for it?
You don’t send her a message asking her for the file. There’s a process. You have to fill out an application, which you can find in her store. Then you must prove that you can rig properly. Once you have went through the proper channels and she feels she can trust you, you may then buy (yes BUY) the files from her. You think she’s going to give them out free? Would you? lol
I love how you sanctimonious types come here with your righteous bullshit and fail to see the hypocrisy of your own words. You are precisely why I come here every week. And long may it continue. Oh, basically everyone in SL is depressed in real life. They wouldn’t be bothering with SL if they weren’t. People who are happy in their own lives generally have better things to do than hating on other people, or judging other people, or indeed riding around on a teal deer hating on people for hating on people.

Then again, I look at it as if a lot of people just love the drama. Guess they don’t get enough from watching soap operas all day long while living in their mother’s basement. You see, your comment is very ironic because I don’t see any excuse for those words either. It doesn’t matter if there are a few grammar issues on his text, that is no excuse for invalidity of what he/she said.

I found it “ironic” that the author of that comment flamed people, yet doesn’t have the knowledge required to break text up into paragraphs. Paragraphs that would have broken it into smaller pieces and made it easier to read. I made no judgement on their grammar. Honestly after the first 5 sentences I stopped reading.

To those who post each week with the intent to belittle, take away dreams, and make others uncertain – one day, when you need help, or a hand, or somebody to care? I hope you remember how you gleefully wrote about another human being who may be struggling and what sort of individual does the things you do. Even if the person who write your sharp, disgusting, vile commentary about is a douche, it still does not excuse your cowardly behavior. You are no better.
My mother taught me to fight for beliefs, and for my friends and what is right and wrong. Writing barbs and bitchiness under a fake name, it’s obvious you left your morality, ethics and ability to have empathy at the door.

I think the points most are trying to make is THESE people are taking advantage of others when they truly don’t need help, to have a fund raiser then brag about a damn Disney trip, ahh no mam. I don’t know Harlow very well, only through plurk. I don’t get why deactivating her plurk is a big deal, she’s been saying for a while she was thinking of deactivating because she’s got so much going on in RL that she wants to focus on. That’s all. Can’t blame a girl for deciding to shift her attention to RL a little more.
As a TD girl who kinda hates that everything for us is all pink and frills, I’m all for having more boy’s stuff out there. Or stuff that is truly unisex. Not just “I made this look like it’s for boys too kind of”.
How are you going to tell someone to stop whining, have you ever thought maybe they’ve talked to designers, and even made requests for boy clothes and the designers just didn’t feel like there was enough of a demand for it because no one would take the time to speak up? A lot of TD boy stores that started out making clothes now just make a whole bunch of furniture, aimed at boys, but very much unisex. So yeah, they have every right to complain when a store comes out with “new releases” and it’s the same pants or the same shirt that store had in the last 30 releases just with a different texture.
Don’t be mad just because they are trying to draw attention to something that obviously needs the attention when it comes to a community. They’re just trying to be a little louder now.
If you don’t like what’s available for a body, get a different body. No one is forcing you to be a TD. There are other options out there, including just having a normal, basic SL avatar body. This is especially true for the people complaining about how Bit doesn’t give people the creator’s kit – don’t like her business practices, go elsewhere. No creator has a monopoly that can’t be broken. Just because TD is popular right now doesn’t mean it always will be. Remember, base SL skeletons are free to download, and other creator kits are cheaper.
As for TD, the creator of TD mesh body is really picky when it comes to who can have her body template. My friend and I asked her several times if we could buy her template so that we can create meshes for TD, but she NEVER replied. But on the other hand, I know some ‘popular’ designers got offer from herself.
Then support a different body. Hell, go download the base SL skeleton. It’s free and you can learn to make mesh and rig on it just as easily. No one is forcing you to support Bit’s work. If enough people get tired of the same templates, and a different body has more options for them, they’ll drop the TD like a moldy french fry and go somewhere else. Just because the TD is popular right now doesn’t mean that it’ll be popular forever, especially if the maker is too stingy about which creators can make things for it. Everyone is so blindly loyal that they don’t see how crap the quality has become.

Alright, so on the topic of the TD boys industry – who the fuck do some of you think you are? You aren’t god, you aren’t ghandi, telling someone to ”quit whining” because they’re hoping to inspire some more boys mesh creation is ridiculous, and I am sure you’re in need of a reality check.
I hope they do inspire designers to create a variety of boys mesh. There’s tomboys too, a lot of furries who just feel better in boyish stuff like sweaters and cargo shorts, girls who just like to hang out in jeans and a t-shirt, countless options and profitable reasons to make boys mesh, so who are you to tell someone to stop voicing a want for more designers to create.

Those tomboys, furries, boys, and assorted others who want different pants don’t have to be TDs. If Bit’s practices are as horrible as people make them out to be (charging too much, not giving kits to the right people, favoritism, etc), designers should try designing for a different body. If people see another body has lots of original mesh coming out for it, they’re going to stop supporting Bit and the TD as much, and start using the other body. People go where the quality content is being generated. Just because the TD is popular right now doesn’t mean it will be forever.
I don’t see why deleting/deactivating plurk is such a big issue! I did it a while a go and was a great choice! Plurk can often be too distracting (for various reasons), so it is actually nice to work on stuff without feeling tempted on opening Plurk every 15 minutes.
As to this being directed to Harlow, she has never been anything else but nice to me… and I am not a ”slebrity”, tenant or designer.

Looks like you’re either jealous they’re getting sales, mad that they are competition for you, or extremely insecure with yourselves so much so that you have to go around and bash creators and what they choose to make.
Who cares what looks good to you, clearly every creators items look good to them and plenty of their customers who keep coming back for more.

It’s called SL S-E-C-R-E-T-S. Backbone has fuck all to do with it. And how ironic that you’ve missed the point of this site.
Actually, I think (perhaps I’m wrong) that the SL Secrets was originally inspired by Postsecret.com which was a venue for strangers to share meaningful, heartfelt, and sometimes horrible secrets. Like real secrets. Secrets that could put you in jail, or end a marriage, or ruin friendships. Sometimes they are sad and funny, or bittersweet, other times they make you angry or disgusted.
Every now and then an SL Secret will actually be like it was meant to be, but mostly people just use it as a venue to make petty complaints about others pixel businesses or judgement about others imaginary love lives.
Which is kinda sad because sl can suck you in and give you experiences that you can’t really share with the real world and this could be a venue for sharing the loss and love that most of us have found here.

On August 3, 2008 Iris Seale posted the announcement that virtual-secrets was being started. Here’s her description of what she wanted:
The idea is that I wanted to put together a program like PostSecret, where people send their secrets in on postcards and those cards are published on the web and in books. Many of the things people send in are heartbreaking, uplifting and works of art in their own right. Basically, I wanted to issue the same challenge to the SL community.
300+ weeks later we are at the point where virtual-secrets deserves it’s own website and it’s own forum. It has become it’s own beast because virtual-secrets is one of the most highly debated topics in the Second Life community (at least for a percentage of users that read/participate in blogging within the community).
I hope to keep Iris’s dream alive. I’d really like it if the SL Community stood up and made secrets what it could be. Actually this is the way its a “meant to be”. The community and submitters determine what it is “meant to be”. Let’s not confuse that with how YOU want it to be.

Harlow is simply an opportunist. She is nice to you while she can use you and/or obtain something from you. If you’ve served your purpose then she’ll discard you and move on to the next person. That is what I have observed her to do with all sorts of people from creators, “slebrities” and even her tenants.
If you can’t see this then you don’t really understand that her sugary sweetness is a facade. She likes to portray herself as ‘holier than thou’ but she is in fact as flawed and imperfect as the rest of us.

I am not a celebrity in SL, nor a creator. In fact, I have always been pretty much a nobody 😉 ….but Harlow has always been warm, friendly and welcoming to me. So, I disagree with your message. 🙂
Why is it when someone is nice so many need to set out to take them down? Of course she’s flawed. We all are. I don’t think she has ever tried to portray herself has perfect. This all still smacks of jealousy to me….even if you form it as “opinion”.

I think I’m pretty sure Reign Isn’t the only shoe designer at N21 but that could just be me, Last round there were bleich, aphorisim, and another one not sure who it was, mango cheeks has made shoes for it, Lwarwick has been a part of it, boom has made shoes for it, and several others… sounds like a bitter person that just hasn’t been a part of it yet to me. There is nothing wrong with competition and I’m sure reign isn’t worried about putting some in there.

So someone is bored with the limited choices and overdone template use for their particular mesh avatar? Explain to me how that is different than what any other mesh avatar user faces these days? I get tired of going to applier events and seeing the same crappy templated slut wear that not even a real life hooker would want to wear. Like seriously people, enough with them 80’s bodysuits and cropped tops with underboobage and sexulized school girl bubblegum slut gear.
Us Tweeneedoo are in a worse position, yes the avatar has been around for a shorter time so there are less products available and ‘smb fits tweeneedoo’ (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t and the alphas from the tweeneedoo are rarely ideal to match up with the smb meshes) It’s not the creator’s fault and I’d rather support her in any way I can as I used to be a toddleedoo but at the end of the day it’s so -SO- easy to be a toddleedoo in comparison, regardless of the gender. I know I chose to be an older kid but I have the right to use whichever avatar I want and I liked that I could use the toddleedoo appliers I already had but still be a big kid with the tweenedoo. Anyways… rant over, just try to realise how lucky you are. 🙂
Spot on. I stopped shopping because I didn’t want to be a TD and that’s all that was available. It was too small for me to feel comfortable, and all the clothing is just the same tired templates that everyone else does with no effort put in. How many poorly put together variations of the same dress or playsuit can I see at one event? Enough to make me lose interest in fashion, where it was previously a huge draw for me.
Once you’ve gone through the four stores that actually make older kid clothing, you’re out of luck. I yearn for the days where you could actually tell designers apart by how they constructed their clothing, and there were actually original designs. Most of the so-called ‘designers’ of TD clothing are people putting basic, unshaded and uninteresting patterns from Pinterest on a template and then marking it up. Kid clothing is no longer about quality, and it’s sad.

Skilled mesher is up for debate. Skilled at texturing boxes maybe. But all her creations are basic and uninteresting. Very little intricate detail. If you want to see a skilled mesh creator, look elsewhere. Calling it a collaboration and riding off the back of another more skilled creator seems to be the MO of someone who is at the limit of their ability. It’s painfully obvious that Con is doing the legwork in that duo.

Ok.. I’m partially with you what you said, because I think technically is her mesh not good ( if you check poly count and amount of huge textures that never rez properly ) there is not doubt about that. This is just my personal opinion and sl decorators and customers can’t see it from this point.
I’m just pointing out at fact, she can make really nice stuff sometimes that’s maybe why I called her “skilled” and I do not want to sound harsh in any way. I know she can bring really nice original stuff that cannot be seen from other creators and I take it as big plus. Just her biggest negative lately is that quantity of her products is over quality :/
I would actually agree with this statement she use to make some really great stuff. Now all I see are pictures, pictures, and more pictures from Floorplan. Since that is all she is determined to make and not make an effort anymore she no longer receives any of my lindens. Consignment creator is a great mesh creator and I enjoy his products and designs. He should not be drug through the mud on this board because of the crap Tegan wishes to produce and slap her name on.
I don’t actually see it as him who’s getting dragged through the mud. I think his designs are excellent. I have bought them in the past and will do so in the future. Just not when it’s his work slapped with her label on it. Nobody is fooled. If you’re going to collab, at least pick someone who will challenge, inspire and raise your game instead of holding it back.
